iv read an seen some reviews about some speakers an subs that can an benifit from some watts over between rms an peak amount
what im not getting is if this sub is one of those
Any speaker can benefit from amplifier headroom IMO. Easier to avoid clipping and THD issues when you aren’t pushing the amp to its limits. The problem comes when you try to push the driver too far and exceed either mechanical or thermal limits. Which results in either the mechanical damage, or letting the magic smoke out. Either way, you now have a large paperweight.
Mechanical limits are pretty easy to model, thermal limits are much harder to determine. The question is usually if the manufacturer rated wattage due to mechanical limits in recommend enclosure, or thermal limits. Also, how much of a thermal safety factor, and whether its rated for clean power or assumes clipping.
