Built a subwoofer, how's it look?

Hey everyone. I just recently put together a 3.1 system for my living room. Currently using an old sony receiver and some closeout DCM L/C/R's. I had to get a subwoofer setup asap because I had surgery this morning which means lots of time for viewing and a couple months before I could build something else. I modeled it in BB6 before building, but I have never built a home theater subwoofer before. I have always been a car audio guy, so playing below 30hz has never interested me. I was hoping one of the local experts here could tell me how I did? I am very happy with the results so far, but really have nothing to compare it to.

Enclosure specs are 4.5cuft net volume (21.75*21.75*21.75) with a down firing passive radiator. No additional weight added to the PR. Here are links to the amp/sub/radiator. Edit* can't post full links due to post count. Everything is on PE

/hsu-research-v-pf-12100lp-12-subwoofer--299-4020

/defined-audio-v12100lpva-12-high-mass-passive-radiator--299-4054

/bash-300s-digital-subwoofer-plate-amplifier-300w-rms--300-750

So whats the verdict? Should I add some weight to Lower tuning for HT? I don't use this for music what-so-ever. I look forward to any constructive criticism.

for AVS DIY,

at about $400 it seems

is that the budget limit?

I have about $300 into this including wood/paint/primer/glue. In a couple months after I recover I can build another one of these, or something else if it's going to give me a better listening experience. The SPL output of this build is enough for me at this point. I'm just wondering if there is something I overlooked in this build that could be corrected going forward. To my untrained ears it's great, but again, I'm quite new to all of this.

I should probably just borrow my friends term lab and run some sweeps to see what kind of output I'm getting and go from there. I do enjoy others input though

as you've spent the money
build it
and test it for response wrt placement and such
however
if your intent is to possibly build a second such sub,
provided the first 1 is deemed , nominally, and if 'temporarily", adequate

if possible, return the bash 300 and
think ahead
and for the "slightly' more expense of 2 of the bash300's
get a behringer n3000DSP

without knowing bout the room, placement, WAF, available space, etc.
just maybe
a bit of future proofing may be prudent

for the price of the 12 and PR you could save a few bucks and at least start with a PA460 in a VBBS build (and put that difference toward the berry amp)
you may think you're not too concerned with <30 response

but many here would agree that a well dialed in and smooth room filling Bass response solid to 30 for what is a budget minded expense (YMMV)
a very good start.

then sell the sub you"re planning to build and build the 2nd VBBS

and treat yourself to a complete and thorough recovery

and visit AVS often

Sounds like it's already built and in use? If so, the only thing that matters is how it sounds to you. There may be some small tweaks you can do on the PR (I am by no means a PR expert, so maybe they are larger tweaks) but if you're happy with it now then win!

If you just can't help yourself go ahead and measure the FR. But be warned, that may be the beginning of the rabbit hole...

Yes sir it is already built. I didn't have much time to plan for it as I wanted it done before I had my surgery (today) so i could enjoy it.

I played with some sine waves and it seems to peak in the low 20's, then has a lul in the low 30s, and comes back strong high 30's and up. I'm not sure if this is some sort of bass boost built in to the bash300s or if it has to do with my room (11x22x8h). I haven't tested it below 15hz but the output there is great. I would say it plays 15hz as well as the low 30's.

This is also my first PR build and I am very impressed with the sound quality, especially compared to my previous bass-toys.

Like I said, I come from a car audio hobby where my last setup was a pair of sundown zv4 18's on 8k rms (152.2 @ 34hz), so my bank account and I understand the rabbit hole comment

Right now I'm just chasing clean, flat output with low extension to heighten my viewing experience.

OK,

Does the AVR have any REQ?

in as much as you have the "luxury" of convalescence "time,

consider checking in to the REW thread and find out what is happening

Currently using a freebie STR-DA30ES, so no REQ. I plan on picking up an x1500h soon though!

I think you'll find Audyssey makes a huge difference.
