I can also say I loaded the woofer with the box face down. Drilling the holes before the sub went in was handy. A little poking around with the screws to find the holes behind the gasket tape was the worst of it.

Pictures are deceiving.....LOL..... that's BASIC SUB FLOORING.... nothing special. I had to keep a budget which included the drivers. Its good sturdy wood.... it has ONE good face. I didn't stress about it because it's getting painted anyway......It does the job..

UPDATE::

At 6:32pm ....I'm proud to announce....It's an LFE..... YAY!!!

THOUGHTS::
This was a GREAT build and it reminded me that my CLAMP GAME was on point....[wavy wood sucks]
I am so glad that I did the LFE first... now doing a mini will be a walk in the park..... this thing is close to 200# empty. I am so glad that I don't have far to move it.... I can't tell you how many times I had to flip this thing over for one reason or another.

NOTE TO SELVES:: If you build an LFE

Please for the love of all things holy....put in the front to back braces..... BEFORE the bottom back panel. It really sucks to have to crawl INSIDE of the LFE to put the bottom 2 in place.... ask me how I know

Sidebar: Having a sub in your house that you CAN crawl inside is just crazy..... much less 2!!!

I MAY fire it up tonight... but definitely by Wed night..... got a long day at work tomorrow.

So, I unplugged one of my Martys and plugged in the LFE, same settings.... BIG difference.... all I can saw is WOW....
What was I thinking building 4 devastators? That's crazy talk...... I'm building 3....LOL
Four of those in my apt will be just WAY OVERKILL....1 is ACTUALLY too many for any normal sized room...

BUT that BASS though......smooth and clean.... I agree with @Red Five , at times it is hard to tell just how loud it really is. All the bloom is gone... it's hard to describe... Upright Bass is just scary real..... The best sounding bass I've heard in a long time outside of the real instruments. One of my favorite genres is PsyDub/Ambiant. Some of the bass drops in these songs are crazy.

I will check the track out when I get a chance! I am still messing with the curves running midbass a bit hot is what I like so far. Also playing with the HPFs, 2nd order at 20Hz is too clean, the 8th order at 17Hz and 4th at 18Hz get more rumble than I want. 19Hz 3rd order seems to be the sweet spot for now.

UPDATE::
So, the Mini is complete.....

The RSS460HO in a Mini is pretty kick ass.... this box picks up the top end nicely while keeping the bottom end. This driver sounds much cleaner and well defined in a Mini as opposed to a Full Marty. It's not that the Marty sounds bad in any way.... the Mini just sounds better.

I played a few songs that I know the Marty struggled with and the Mini played the crazy warble tones with no issues. The Mini resolved each note as opposed to the Marty playing more of a continuous throb.

A buddy of mine stopped by while I was playing some music and he commented on how much more defined the songs were than before.

Now the Mini & LFE together is just a whole 'nother ballgame, that combo is the truth. If you can handle the size of the LFE.... do yourself a favor and build some.


If I ever open a dance club.... I'll be putting in at least a dozen LFE to crush the bass...


Once again for the fence sitters..... just build them already...


PSA:: @Red Five You may want to warn folks that you WILL have to change your gain structure when you add these subs to your system. They are crazy efficient and great at what they do....

Onward to the second LFE which I will probably start on Thurs or so...... crazy week ahead.

I will be curious to see what the response looks like near field on the 460HO mini

It takes some tweaking to get them where the AVR likes them, since they are more sensitive than anything that is not a high end compression driver. I think mine are dialed in, just waiting to have the house to myself to test war mode. Now that they are fully broken in the bass has even more definition than ever. Upright bass has never sounded so good or anything else for that matter!

I am running mids a little hot, 10db .7Q 20Hz filter and a -3db 2.0Q 86Hz filter. Still sounds smooth and not bloated.

I had a close friend over and he got a chance to listen to them for awhile. His take they do not take center stage, not like the 21DS115. The DS blended well where it could not be localized, but you could hear the beast wanted to jump out at you any chance it got. The Devs stay laid back even though they are pushing a higher volume level. It is kind of hard to describe.
