Quad Mini-Devastator Build

I was referred to the Devastator build when I was asking for audio assistance on my theater build. I looked through all the devastators and due to some size constraints, I went with the Mini-devastators. Purchased 4x Lavoce SAF184.03s. We cut the MDF/2x4s to size all day today and set the first few pieces. Will run them on 2 Behringer NX6000Ds when all is said and done.

Here's the next set of pics for the last two days of work. We are hoping to get the first 2 done this week. As Friday my buddy who is helping goes home for the holidays and my wife's family comes in. So, most of the work will be on hold until the holidays... well that is unless my father-in-law decides he wants to get in on the action.

Oh, and I attached below a template cut I made so I can cut and label all the pieces. When doing cuts for four boxes it came in handy to keep the counts and numbers correct.

Looks like you have the perfect room for the build....Bravo!
Thanks for the pdf. I just may try a set of these myself as my 2 original Dev's are too big really for .....well....any room in my house.

Ohhh I feel special... I was tired last night and didn't post progress... once we're done tonight I'll get yesterdays and today's pics up. Today is the last day we can work on them until after the holidays. But should have the first 2 boxes built and ready for the speaker installation. I think we are going to put the speaker terminal cups on the sides that will not be seen for ease of installation.

You’re making good progress.

Here’s a pic of the terminal cup placement from my build:

I was feeling lazy, so I didn’t swap my router over to the small circle jig and flush mount them.

Holy balls, it was cold out there tonight. I can not wait until we get the ducting in the rafters and can button up the ceiling with some insulation. The space heater was overmatched tonight. However, we fought the cold and have finished the assembly of the first 2. Them some big mamba jamba's... alas it will be some time before I am able to hear them in action. And this is where the holiday season creates a pause in progress but never fear there's more to come in the new year.

Oh come on there is almost no need for a heater at 32F. We had -10 last night. U actually thought i might want to zip up the jacket after i was outside for a bit. The build is looking great. I can't wait till next year when i can finally get going on mine. I am hoping to do the BMD OMEGA that Redfive just published. That should be a lot of fun.

For the love of all that is Holy.... please do a cardboard mock up BEFORE you build it.... The size on paper is one thing.... building that monster is another..... Building my LFE was a PITA.... at some point you WILL have to flip it over for one reason or another or several. Good luck with your build and please be safe.... these big boxes get pretty heavy quickly as you add the wood.

My plan is to set them at the front of the room under the screen and use them as a stand for the LCR speaker's. And then set a spandex screen on top of the box infront of the speakers. I was thinking of doing titans and putting the woofer over the horn section. The reality is this will be massive overkill as the room is 15' x 17' but it would fit wall to wall across the front. And yes the weight does concern me a bit but there has to be a way to make it happen as the room is going in the back of my garage.

You can definitely make it happen...if you can, get help with the build...those will be some BIG panels to deal with.... dancing with that LFE was one hell of a workout and I'm not a little dude....

And there is no kill like overkill. Just for reference, I have an LFE, Mini and two Full Marty[ 1-18" & 1-21"] in a 17' X 21' room in an apartment.... all about the overkill.

The build continues... for whatever reason I didn't take but one picture of the last 2 Mini's being built, probably because while the glue was drying we were continuing to build the theater... We have all four assembled and ready for some paint... That's next weekend's mission.
