Talking Mini Devastator Test Build

No real reason to build one other than it looked like a fun project. Thanks @Red Five .

My buddy wants a couple of VBSS end table variants built. But I think this is a better design. The plan was to built one and see if it would work for him. Just need to finish up the bracing, rear hatch and load a driver.

Mistakes or things i would do better.
1) the front and baffle assemble got spun around and i punched a number of pocket holes on what is the front. Ugh. I don't think these will fill well??

2) Cut larger front chamber rails and notch them so they sit flush to the front

3) Use baltic birch and mitre corners.

I have a Mach Audio IXL-18 not being used, i am thinking of jamming it in and taking some measurements. Or is this a total mismatch and not worth the time? PA460 was the originally intended driver.

Looks good. I'm interested in your results for sure. And imo, if you didn't want to try and fill those pocket holes, cover them up with some trim.

Not a bad idea, similar to what @hd0823 did.

Awesome, you should do a side by side with a vbss to see which is preferred.

Bondo can easily fill the pocket holes. Leave it a bit high for shrinkage, then sand flat when cured.

Putting the bracing in with the rear panel glued on is going to be interesting.

Primarily designed for pro 18"s SAF184.03, SAN184.03, 18TBW100, 18DS115, PA460 etc, but the RSS460HO works out of simulated/tested HT woofers. Not sure about the UXL18, I have not simmed it.

You can always turn it down, but you can only turn it up so much (before you run out of power, excursion or structural integrity).

Yes it will be...... I made the same mistake when I built my LFE... but at least I could crawl inside for easier installation of the braces....

It might be easier to cut little 3/4" x whatever pieces from leftover scrap and stick them on the front of the rails to accomplish the same thing.

Le has a value of 0, do you have the full specs?

Good idea.

Finished up the bracing. A little different than recommended. Seemed to me the bottom and front are well supported, just the sides and top need reinforcement.

Not to be rude my friend but:

No real reason other than it looked like a fun project? That doesn't even make sense you silly goose. You seem to forget, it produces bass. Now trust me, people here, we love LOOKING at subs. I mean, I like the La Voce 21 inch because it's an "affordable" 21 inch sub that you can keep buying more and more of. But let's not pretend that these don't produce bass.

Unless of course, I have misunderstood you, and maybe you truly do just like to look at the subwoofer. And I won't judge you. We love subs. If you keep thinking of doing these fun projects every couple of months, you may really enjoy the outcome. Especially if you turn them on and don't just look at them. I'm not saying it has to be a monthly fun project (I'm not saying it doesn't, if you have to have fun once a month go ahead!) but don't stop having fun projects ok?

Lol. No offence taken. I have the bug bad as well. Eventually i will assemble a 2.1 system upstairs for music and this will be likely used there. I have 3 other enclosures not being used already (1 LLT/EBS, 2 plus sized VBSS variants). My theatre still puts a grin on my face when i crank up the music and movies. Although, judging from others on here, at some point an upgrade will happen.

The IXL 18 with the values provided should look something like this. It looks a lot like the RSS460HO in the Mini DEV and that has been done with good results.

Is RSS460HO suitable to mini version, sorry not following the updates lately. I got 2 of them on hand taking dust but would love to them get in action if they do full range.

I have not ran the sim for the Mini v2 yet, but they do work in the Mini v1. I would imagine they would get better low end on the v2.
