I can share my strategy - take a measurement from every available location in the room then choose your locations based on what the location delivers for you. I choose locations based on how they compliment other locations and sum together to give me a nice flat response. I then choose which sub goes where based on the sub/driver’s strengths and weaknesses. My um18-22 minimartys excel on the lower end, so they go in the locations that play to their strengths. My devas excel mid to high so they go in locations that suit them. For me, location is the single most important variable, but then again my room sucks.
Some folks have room or decor constraints that limit them to zero other options. If your room or waf or preferences have your locations chosen without regard to how they perform acoustically then yeah, time align them and EQ them as best you can, you have what you have. I have a thread on deva/Marty integration and found they integrate perfectly if you do your part in location selection
