Baltic Birch Devastator v1

If you told me at the begin of this year I will build a subwoofer enclosure box or let alone a devastator enclosure, I would told you I had better chance of winning the power ball or mega million lottery.
I would like to thank @LTD02 for the design. I would like to thank @Red Five , @superkyle , @hd0823 , @Jk7.2 and @a77cj7 for answering all my questions and sorry for PMing you guys too much.

This build was my first-time build and it wasn’t hard, actually it was easy as long you take your time and be patient. My very first devastator build was the LFU and that was a disaster because I wasn’t patient and I made some mistake when I try to attached the inner baffle to the front panel. The was some gaps from front port rail to the front panel, as a newbie I thought that was no no so I scratch the whole build and give up. I didn’t realize that I could have use the PL3x to fill the gaps. Totally rookie mistake
I took 2 weeks off and decided to try again. I’m glad i did because this time I was very patient and I ask lot of questions. I decided to use baltic birch this time around with lots of pocket holes and PL3x.

Now to my mini impressions, the devastator sound awesome. I have only listening to it for few minutes here and there when my wife is not home because she on vacation. But man does it sound awesome, especially for music. Can’t wait to start building another one.

Thanks,
Femi

Looks good. So what are your impressions? How does HGTV sound with a devestator?

Congrats Femi. That looks great. Having patients is maybe the hardest part. Everything else is available. The design, the tools, the help. But man it can get frustrating! Glad you pushed through and got one bad sub there!

Thanks man, i still made some mistakes with this build as well. As you may have notices i made too many pocket holes at some places i can't even reach to screw them in.

That’s par for the course. You’re the only one who will ever know about those little things. Lol, except that you told us.

When i first became a electrician someone once told me that it is not a mistake unless someone else finds out about it. I still find that is true the hard part is keeping my wife from noticing small (let's call them course corrections) mistakes.

Great job on the enclosure. I can't wait to get after mine some day.

Good work on this beast! Unless you get right up to a sub, if can be really hard to see the imperfections. As long as the sub is air tight and the panels came out the right dimensions it is all good

I have to do a good flash light inspection on the two Minis. I noticed a screw was missing from the back of the hatch... Who knows what else happened during the crunch lol.

I'm guessing those are the Cap 4000s you have in front of the screen? How is the Dev mixing in with them? My builder fell through so I said F it and bought a workshop and all the woodworking tools needed so I'll be starting my dual Dev build soon. They will mostly be used with the 2 channel system but I'm thinking about adding them to my dual V3611s in the HT. Where did you source the BB from?

Theater: JVC RS540U, 2.35:1 142" screen, Onkyo RZ1100, Panasonic UB820, Outlaw Audio M2200 Monoblock x3, Klipsch RF7II, RC64II, RS62II, 5800CII x4 Atmos, PSA V3611 Subwoofer x2.
2 Channel: Parasound P6, Parasound A23+, Rega Planar 6 with Ortofon 2M Bronze, Klispch La Scala II, Behringer NX6000D, B&C 21DS115-4 powered Devastator V1 x2.

I got the BB from a local wood shop. I have not tried to mixing the Dev with the Cap 4000s. The Cap 4000 are tune to 10hz so i thought it would be frown upon for me to mix them. I'm not good at mixing subs anyways. I remember when i had the orbit shifter and try to mix them with some seal subs, i didn't like the way they all sound together.

I like how the Dev sound by themselves so far. I still can't believe i actually built one.

femi,

Curious why you used pocket screws.

Since you coated with Duratex, wouldn't it have been easier to screw the panels together from the outside and fill the holes?

Thanks Jeremy, l'm loving it so far. I quite shock how deep it sound when playing Suck My Bass at a low volume level, my wife came in from the other room and ask me to turn it down. Even though the vm was already at -40db.

Yeah there super impressive I couldn't believe the change it made when I added them in the rear with the 4 v3s I thought it was crazy but they made even way way more intense. I know what you mean They do sound way deeper than I was expecting to

Really nice build, @femi . Sounds like another one is on the way, too. Are you adding them to use with your existing subs, or will it be replacing something?
