Anyone build side ported DIY speakers

I do not like rear ported speakers because I like them up against a wall, or atleast Id rather have front ported for more placement options if I move stuff around. Most diy kits arent even front ported, I built my classix II's as front ported and it was a bit more involved. However could you buy the classix kit with flat pack and side port it? It would just make things a little easier. Do you think it would make a difference? Does side porting mess with the sound because the front and rear waves are not seperated as much?

No. The wavelengths involved are too long, so the enclosure is radiating omnidirectionally at typical port tunings.

I built many of my early 15 and 18 enclosures for my PA with side ports as I could get a better form factor and stack multiples for larger rooms. It also allowed straight ports. Not so keen on folding/bending them as they compress at higher SPL.

Wavelenghts for bookshelf speakers are different than a subwoofer, thats why Im asking if bookshelf speakers are ok to side port.

They're smaller generally, so the port and driver will be close together. 40Hz is still 8.6m long; that's one hell of a large bookshelf speaker to have the port and driver >1/4 wavelength apart.
