4ft3 Cabinet for an 18" Sub: best PA Fit

Hola all,

I have an old 4ft3 cabinet for an 18" sub laying around and I want to throw a sub together for my/my daughters "new" game room. It's only ~ 300 sq st, so I don't need to go nuts.

Let's just say I can grab any of these sub $300 PA sub options awfully cheap. I want to stay sealed - and I know most PA subs like vented enclosures. Opinion on the best option, here?

Thanks
James

Me: "Yeah, a case of Diet Mountain Dew walking across my living room."

Drop in a PA460 for $90, and use lots of eq.

Better option is to add some 4” precision ports as well.

Thanks- I can actually get any of those sub $300 Sweetwater options less expensively. Are any of those options superior? EQ will be tough, as I will just be running an entry-level Denon AVR to a EQ-less amp.

Thanks
James

I can’t say without modeling each driver. Also depends on how much amplifier power you have available.

Any pro driver sealed is going to need eq to perform properly sealed. Check out the minidsp 2x4. It will also allow you to set HPF if you decide to go ported.

A PA sub wouldn't be my first choice but I would start by looking at drivers with middling Qts and lower Fs. Model and season to taste.

Yeah, I hear ya guys, really just cheaping out here. I'm going to go with this and let is serve double duty in the game room and for garage-gigging.

That went a different direction quick.

For cheaping out and a better bang for the buck, I'd do a budget 18 in a ported cab, but we all have different needs.

Good luck

I'd just do a PA460 sealed and use a plate amp that you can turn the crossover very low on. Poor man's eq.

If it's going to be game and gigging duty...

Four letters solve your issue.

V.B.S.S.

That way you can tune it high for gigging and tune it low for games and switch back and forth. Gaming actually can have heavier bass than movies and dig just as deep while sustained for long periods of time.

Yup, I used to use the newer Doom to demo a bit, the music and game has some serious bass.
