DIY skyline diffuser

Had a water pipe break in my kitchen that destoryed half the ceiling in my hardly a year old soundproof dedicated room.

While everything is out of commission for repairs I firgured I may as well change some things I wanted to do differently. First are these 4 diffusers that will be replacing cheap Auralex styrofoam diffusers that didn’t really work much.

Easy build just a lot of cutting and saw dust.

Here is a link to the ones I built.

Now working on the half round diffusers. They are replacing the auralex styrofoam diffusers in the pic.

Because the space I had to work with was 21.75” I used 10” sonotube. Cut them and half and to length and added braces to the back.

Going to get some oak today to make caps for the top and bottom of each. I’ll the. Wrap I. Black fabric, stuff with insulation and mount on the door as shown and the wall opposite of room door.

I was going to build 8 of the skylines but the weight would have been too much for the door hence the half rounds. Being slightly in front of the seating I hoping the half round diffusion will open up the perceivable length of the room. We shall see.

The auralex will give better diffusion than half rounds.

Thanks for the info. Hmmm my issues with the auralex are them being styrofoam and painted them keep getting scraped and need repainted. Also they are only a few” deep so I thought I could get similar diffusion and more absorption with filling with fiberglass? Maybe I’m overthinking this.
