Question What has been your favorite diy sub you have used or heard?

What has been your favorite diy sub you have used or heard so far and why?

I'm semi-new to the diy sub field and am curious what your favorite diy sub setup/design has been so far?

I've only built a mini marty um18 and 2 vbss pa460's, and so my experience has been limited to only those two builds. So far I can only say I like both of my build equals and for different reasons; the marty for the ulf and the pa460's for the 40hz+ boost (and they're dirt cheap!).

I'm sure that most people will say their favorite is the loudest and largest sub they have every built or heard, which is totally understandable. I have built a Dayton RSS315HO with an 18" CSS passive radiator and a BASH 300 amp but that is not my favorite or most impressive subwoofer I will save that for the voxel sub. It's amazing to hear a 5 1/4" Tang Band subwoofer play that much bass for it's small size.

You never forget your first: Shiva sonosub in an EBS alignment.

Why? Because I began to realize I could build better subs for much less than I could buy.

I haven't built or heard a Devastator, but that is definitely next level stuff.

a "favorite'- it depends

after 6 years, the 2 x 30" THTLP's and a 24"-er in my mancave at 10-ish x 10-ish
EQ'd thru a 2x4, each on a BASH 300
rambunctious
but the small (sealed) room doesn't really let them bellow without stepping on each other
but I can get plenty of TR and pressurization given the right clip

Now the Submaximi (?) , V2 and V3 in the LR, with the LHorn, with 18" UXL's
in 5K space and those 2 x 6K Berry's and a 2x4HD and XT32
can make sitting outside on my front or rear patio area a fine time cruisin' along on a pleasant afternoon . .
inside could be murderous

On that note.... I STILL have my first dedicated subwoofer. It is an AudioPro B2-70 dual 8" push/pull design. it's a little smaller than a Marty Cube but, man does this thing crush acoustic music. I think the amp [long dead] was 250 watts. It has a PE plate amp now and still sounds great...

Well I have 3 favorite all are different but combined in my opinion no complaints. My first choice is my dual opposed SI HST18's powered by A14K. They can take a lot and dish it out as well. My second would be the SI DS4's in a sealed 7cuft cabinet powered by 8KW amp. The third which is kind of a surprise a quad opposed 4cuft cabinet with Infinity 1262's powered with nuke 6000. All three combined right around 8-9hz it may not compare to others but it suits me just fine!!

SUBS:SI HST-18's 8cuft Dual Opposed cabinet w/ Bossobass A14K, 2 SI DS4's each in 7cuft Sealed cabinet w/ Bossobass IT-8000, 4 Infinity 1262's 4cuft Quad Opposed cabinet w/ Behringer nuke 6000

I'm pretty sure for most of us every sub we've had has had a special place in our heart. Right now I'm loving the triple full martys though, no doubt about it. Feels like I have an endless amount of power on tap.

Nothing compares to a horn loaded sub in my humble opinion. It just sucks that they are so big and can only be built in one or MAYBE two directions.

My pa460 loaded Devs ROCK and my tapped horns (picowreckers) in my garage are SICK but, I do love my dual F20’s THTs (mini submax I guess you could say), from 20hz to 100hz with only a 15 inch and 500watts anybody would be impressed. Although, I would never build another.

Six dual JBL Devs are in my future (four in front, two in back), you see I would rather have many of the same rather than one or two excessive subs.

Horns are always awesome. It's tough to beat their awe-inspiring output levels, but they are definitely a lot of work--both in terms of building AND getting your wife to let you bring the thing into the house.

I have a few....I really like the VBSS for the sheer quantity and quality of bass for the price. I also really like my 3.5 cft HSU 12" tuned to 20 HZ with SPA250. It sounds great and has more output then I expected. Sound quality wise has to be my 12 JBL's in an IB alignment. So effortless and with that many drivers, very little cone movement with louder than needed volumes. I like the IB sound so much I want to try the close out 15's from PE (driver from Sub1500) for a music set up.

The quadhorn was my favorite build. Partly because it was a 15" 16' single fold horn, and the first horn I built. The other reason is because I had 2 Dayton sub 1500s that I thought would work well that I returned and built the horn for about $15 more. The horn was nuts, it's still in use at my dad's house even though it's just being used at maybe 15% lol. It fills a gigantic room effortlessly. Great simple effective build that can't be beat.

Well my first DIY sub for my home was the Skhorn. One could say that it satisfies my needs
My second DIY sub is my own design which is based on the same 21DS115 driver I've used in the SKHorn. I don't think that one could hear a difference between those two when they're EQ'd flat. Both designs are easy to work with and sound great even without EQ already.

My own design is a single driver cab which is made for PA application. It's tuned to 31Hz and a front loaded vented cab.

I’ve been using Adire Tumults (2005) for 15 years. They are in sealed 3cube cabs. I have heard lotz of subs over the years, horn loaded, tapped horns, ported, isobaric.......

I really like my four Tumults sealed.
