Dual 12cuft Ported Lavoce SAN214.50 21"

So, the backstory on the purchase of these drivers is, I had two of these SAN214.50 drivers in my cart and forgot about them. They had been sitting there for maybe 3 months. PE sends me a one day 10% off offer and I jumped on them My original intentions were to purchase a Eminence NSW6021-6, but they're out of stock until June 5th...at least they're out of stock at PE. Besides, 2 ported SAN214.50 will best one ported Eminence NSW6021-6. I decided to go with ported for ease of build. I will wire the two cabs together for a 4ohm load and run them off a channel of the FP20k. Each sub should receive 1000w at full tilt. Should be interesting

Good luck man! A pair of these are going to be downright wicked. I just got done moving the 10cu ft coffin upstairs into the new media room, and barely got it there safely without killing myself and my 19 year old nephew that helped (the extra long 72” dimension made it very difficult). I haven’t even hooked it up yet, but hopefully will get a chance this week.

@a77cj7 and anyone else who can provide input on this matter. I want to use wood inserts to secure my driver to the baffle, but unsure how to go about installing the wood insert into a double baffle. This will be a bit different from the Dev, being it only has a single baffle. The longest insert I have is 0.789", so would one wood insert be enough?

.789 is about 20mm... the longest I have seen are 25mm, so not much bigger but should work if you are using something like baltic birch. If you're using MDF, I would recommend something like the T-nuts in the attachment, which allow you to secure with nails so the nut won't twist under repeated use. I also recommend using glue along with whatever insert you choose for added security.

Yep, using Baltic Birch for these. I've used wood inserts on my single baffled devs, but this will be the first time attempting to use wood inserts on a double baffle. I'll be using the insert below

Thanks! You’ve got some ridiculous firepower now, and with only 21” subs I bet it’s incredible. You dropped a comment on my build thread last year. I’m actually downsizing all my drivers because the new media room is much smaller, so I don’t need the output and really want to simplify my system. I only muscled the LaVoce into the room because there’s a long delay on the new PSA subs I have on order and not having bass for this long sucks when the rest of the room is ready to rock.

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/155-d...0-a.html?amp=1

I used 3” wood screws for the driver, but I had a double baffle with a block of plywood also behind each hole. I did use threaded inserts for the feet though with gorilla glue and seemed to work very well for stability. I haven’t worked with tee nuts before, so I opted for something easy.

In baltic birch, you will break the fastener before the insert spins in the wood. You are good to go.

Even in mdf, I’ve had no issue with 1” inserts in double or triple baffle.

I thought those looked like HS24’s, good grief man. What’s the tune and cab size on those?

If I remember correctly, they're 20 cuft tuned to 15Hz. They were an absolute pain to move into place

It seems I miscalculated how many 4x8 sheets I needed to complete my first cab...one short. So, yesterday I went to 3 different HDs in three different cities, each panel saw was out of service Decided to go to Lowes and no "out of service" notice on the panel saw Asked an employee alert someone to help me with the saw and he told me they are not allowed to use the saw due to Covid19

Oh that’s ridiculous, I actually had them cut down a few things for me at HD and Lowe’s in the last couple weeks, but maybe their policies changed. That’s a lot of busted saws! Hope you get up and running soon. Nothing like wasted time on a build.

For the life of me, I can't understand how using the panel saw puts anyone in anymore risk than any other activity that goes on at Lowes Looks like I'll have to load up a 4x8 sheet on my truck and break it down when I get home

Looks like you've also got a Festool track saw. They are wonderful! I like using mine much more so than using a table saw. I'm eager to hear how you like this new build - I've been considering buying some of the Lavoce subs.

It does come in handy when dealing with large stock. I love the repeatability of the the table saw though

Nearly done All that's left is flush trimming, install the speakon, and mount the driver.

Looking good! You jamming out with these yet?

I really wish I put handles on my coffin build, maybe next time.

Not yet. I still have to build the second enclosure. I had other things that required my attention.

Oh, in your case, handles alone wouldn't do. You'd also need two pallbearers as well

Haha! I nearly killed myself getting it up the stairs into my media room with my nephew helping, and we’re both about 225lbs each. And now I’ve got two more 18” subs coming, so I’m going to probably move the 21” back out of the room until I build it a more appropriate enclosure for this space.

Building two cabs at once seems like you’d save some time from repetition, but it still took me twice as long with my pair of nearfield cabs as building my first single sub. I know these big cabs are a bear to work with, so I feel your pain!

Good luck finishing up!
