I would recommend a speaker with at least a 5.25" woofer.

as for driving them...what is really going to make your life easier/better is a music-over-wifi set up. each ecosystem will have a pre-amp or pre-amp/amp combo. and HEOS and play-fi and chromecast are built into some receivers.

more expensive is Denon's HEOS or SONOS. a HEOS enabled refurb receiver can be had for ~220 delivered.
