Sony VPH-1292QM - 6000 hours on tubes

Dear all,

Would it be worth it to go for a Sony VPH-1292QM with 6000 hours on each tube?

Or would it be better these days to purchase a 400-500 euro projector for movies?

In other words, how well are these CRT's holding up these days.

The 1292 is extremely noisy(loud). Exhaust a high amount of heat. Has very little light, and have a gamma of 2.6, that gives the low light output an even more dim picture.

I would say, not go away - RUN AWAY!!!!

6,000 hours is already really high and the VPH-1292Q has a pretty low light output. Not to mention the huge hassle of setting it up (hours to set up). The thing I learned the hard way with CRT projectors is that EVERYTHING must be blacked out, meaning black walls and a good anti reflective screen.

I'd stay away unless you already have CRT experience.

It's not worth buying, but if you can get it for free, they are a lot of fun. The above statements are true as well.
