Car play question

So I have a 2019 Forester and it is car play compatible. The car play works great. My question is I can’t seem to access the second USB port when car play is being used. So if I have my phone plugged into one USB port and a usb drive with music on it in another that source is blocked out. The mi Ute unplug phone I can then use the usb drive to listen to music. Also blocks aux jack from being used at same time as car play. I get different stories from Apple and Subaru each saying it’s the others issue. I know both can work because I have tried it on a friends GMC and it worked. So is this an Apple iOS issue or Subaru needed to do something.

I don’t know how Carplay should be able to “take over” the entire radio so you can’t use the other USB port. It sounds like a Subaru issue to me. But it sounds like one that’s internal to the radio. Not one that a mechanic at the Subaru dealership can just fix. But that something a software engineer would have to write software for the radio to fix. Or it’s possible there are actual hardware limitations. But this is just guessing how the system must work. Which is kind of an educated guess because I make my living as a software engineer. Although I have never worked with car radios.

I’d ask on a Subaru forum though. I know there are Toyota and BMW forums that I’ve participated on. Surely there are Subaru forums?
