Vantage - Infusion <> Alexa

Trying to see if there is a need.

If there was a plug in device (power only, it's wifi), smaller than a pack of cigarettes, that was easy to install, pretty much programs itself, and allows Alexa to control the lighting and thermostats on a Vantage system.

Would you Vantage dealers out there, put one in on each installation?
Sell to previous Infusion customers?

If you are a consumer and have a Vantage system in your home, would you consider buying this device?

What would you spend for this?

I think there would be interest. Voice control would be a great addition to Vantage. If you can keep the cost in the range of most of the keypads or even a equinox 40, I would think it would bean easy sell.

Vantage <> Alexa

So there is a third party Alexa <> Vantage device now on the market.

It seems to be working well. And they have good tech support.

The site is smarterhome.io

We have negotiated a 5% discount from the seller for our clients and referrals.

No details on the website. How does this work? What are the features? Program within Design Center? What devices are supported?

I am guessing (no hands on experience with this product) that the Pi hardware is connected to the Alexa webservice. The Pi receives the text / intents of "what to do" and then the Pi has an integration with the Vantage Infusion controller. The Pi knows what devices are configured in the Infusion controller and tells the particular one to turn on / off / dim. The Infusion controller then then turns on the particular device.

I'm a Vantage Infusion owner, I'd love to have Apple Home or Alexa integration.
Does anybody have experience with this device?

Anybody have any luck with this integration solution? I am not an apple user (android) but might be willing to get an iPad if this will bridge my vantage system and my alexa interfaces.

Also, I thought vantage was working on a solution as well. Does anyone know where that stands?

I did buy this device and install on my Apple Home setup, I did not try Alexa integration.

First impressions not that great, it only showed some loads in the app, the vendor said only incandescent loads are mapped.
The vendor said he released an update, that includes more load types, I have not tried it yet, as it requires removal and re-registration of the device.

The main shortcoming is that the integration maps loads, not scenes, I am not interested in controlling individual loads, I am interested in controlling scenes, as in what is programmed for my keypad buttons to do.
E.g. kitchen light on, not counter pendants, under cabinet, over sink, over counter, etc. lights individually mapped.

You can get the skill the Vantage Home Automation skill linked. I have not been able to determine what is required on the Infusion end to make it work. Legrand makes a reference to a gateway, whatever that is.

If anyone has a dealer they communicate with, maybe that person will have information? Give us an update if you learn anything.

Vantage has incorporated an Alexa interface into the system. Voice commands to Vantage are now available, making the system even more easy to use. Users can command lights, thermostats, and scenes in this first release. Future developments will enhance the integration between the Vantage system and Alexa (blinds, groups, RGB, fan control, audio, etc.). The integration allows installers to offer added features within the Vantage system that provides greater user convenience. Users that have an Amazon Alexa-enabled device, like the Echo Dot, can now enable this “Vantage Skill” from the skills library. Once enabled, the dealer (installer) can install a gateway (Vantage-AlexaGW) that will enable the InFusion Controller to communicate with the Vantage cloud service for Alexa. The registered installer can now add light and thermostat names on the configuration webpage and link these items and scenes with the InFusion system.

According to the documents, it looks like you need to contact a vantage dealer to set up the account for you so you can link it. There will certainly be a fee from the dealer to do this but I'm not sure if there is also a license to be purchased - I know the old non-cloud based app required it and the app was absolutely terrible. Lutron's apps were so much easier to set up and use for both the dealer and consumer.

Finding a Vantage dealer in your area however is not easy. For some reason when Legrand took over and they got their own people in, there was a purging of what they considered non-performing dealers - ie. ones who don't buy parts as much as other dealers. I don't understand this logic because companies like Lutron have many more dealers and as such, it gives customers more choice and helps build the brand and it makes little sense to have low sales (I don't see Vantage out in the wild the way I used to before Legrand took over) and instead of having more people selling and more importantly SERVICING your products, to have less would be shooting yourself in the foot but I digress.

I'm glad there is at least some solution. I hope they get their act together and bring their old dealers back before they end up like LiteTouch.

I'm a Vantage Infusion owner too, does this app still need Equinox app license?

The device and app mentioned above is not a Vantage produced product.

It is from a 3rd party. smarterhome.io

There is no Equinox license required.

Mention Westco and get a discount.

PM me if you need Vantage programming and have an internet connection to your system, we may be able to do it remotely.

Can you please explain how this works? If you already have access to Design Center, would you need to get Vantage involved in any way? Is there a Gateway or hub to purchase in addition to the Infusion Master Controller?

There is a gateway/device you purchase $ 300 less 5% (code westco).
It speaks directly to the controller thru IP.
Set up is per the website.
Good tech support.
