Best NVR ?
I'm looking for a new NVR. Current is ICRealTime which I'll stay far away from. Quite poor UI, poor support for IOS, MacOS and TVOS. On the positive side it's worked consistently for 7 years.
One key feature I'm looking for in either the NVR or separately is to be able to monitor multiple cameras on an AppleTV either with a grid or tour. We are not doing a video matrix but instead Apple TV's on each TV in our house and we'd like to be able to call up security cameras from any TV.
Guy who sold me the ICRealTime is suggesting a Luma 510 (SnapAV). Looks OK but pricey. Their IOS app is OK but they do not have an Apple TV app. I could possibly airplay from a phone to Apple TV but that'd be a pain and I assume would be low resolution. Luma recommended using VLC on Apple TV but I don't believe it's possible to do a grid on it though I've not tried yet.
Of the other key players in the NVR world Reolink seems to get a lot of bad reviews. Swann slightly better but not great and Lorex & Hikvision possibly the best of the rest? Synology has some nice stuff but can only do 12 cameras. Also considered Ubiquiti but given the huge problems with their new products lately (Dream Machine fiasco, etc.) are shying away from them. Others we should consider?
