The owners turned the 60 in and changed it for the 70 which he said doesn't seem to have the problem.
He also supported what he said by saying that they had to return a 60" set they had because of flickering. He said that he has never seen it on the 70".
What do you say regarding what he said about the Elite 60"?

I've never seen flicker on my 60" or others I've seen on display. I also can't recall reading owners here talking about flicker. I'd put this in the 'unfounded' category.

Walked into Magnolia Store Richmond Ave in Houston today and found that the Elite is on sale this week only for 4999 previously bought for 5500.
Asked the clerk to make a price adjustment of 500 dollars as I bought mine end September - Also asked to make a price adjustment on the 5 year warranty I bought and he adjusted 150 dollars for that smile.gif
Also got some sales tax back for a total of 691 Dollars - not to shabby for paying attention....

Wow. Love it. Thank you so much. Too bad I need to call sharp about this wacky image retention - something must be wrong in the LD/IVC firmware. Just bizzare.

Is that price for the 60" or 70"? I got my 70" for $5300 and if they are selling for $4999 I will go get something back as well. Also bought the 5 year warranty. Thanks.

Actually I read on this forum that some people had gotten 70" Elite's] in Danbury CT Best Buy stores for $5300 so I printed the page from the posts and took them to my Best Buy Magnolia store and they matched the price. They could not find any prices on line even close to the price so I suggested they call the Danbury store and ask if they had sold the TV and the GM said he did not want to get in a pixxing contest with them and he matched the price. I was thrilled to say the least and haven't been able to get away from the TV since.

Although some calibrations have come close (settings that I’ve posted here).
But this past weekend….I’ve found nirvana. After taking yet another, much more time consuming, approach to calibrating the Elite, I have finally acquired a set of settings that best the calibrated picture quality of my Sony sets. After 3 days of checking and rechecking test patterns, test scenes, and regular TV/movies viewing, I’m ready to release the last set of settings I will be posting on this thread.* I want to add that the occasional yellowish tint that creeps up on various scenes with previous settings have all been eliminated.
Screenshots below are the before (factory default) and after readings for the Movie THX mode.
The “DeltaE 2000” chart in the upper-right corner shows the amount of error of the 10 point grayscale. Lower the better.
The “DeltaE 2000” chart in the middle depicts the errors show on readings of the 24 color patches of the Pantone ColorChecker chart. Description of the chart from Pantone, “The ColorChecker is a checkerboard array of 24 scientifically prepared colored squares in a wide range of colors. Many of these squares represent natural objects of special interest, such as human skin, foliage and blue sky….” (link)

The Settings

To check for skin tones and color balance, I like to use the following reference quality movies on Bluray.
Casino Royale
The Transformers – Dark of the Moon
The Avengers
<- I like this particularly because there are a few scenes where most of the Avengers and Nick Fury are together. The different actors/actress have very different skin tones and it is easy to spot if they are off.

I've been tweaking the CNET settings on my Elie for weeks, trying to see if I can best them, so I was very interested in your post. Unfortunately, the print on the settings is so small I'm unable to make out all the digits, even when zooming in with my computer or printing your results and using a magnifying glass (and I'm not yet in this age bracket). Even without ALL your digits, the contrast on my Elite has been improved! Could you please post your settings again, with larger type? I suspect I'll benefit from your experience more than my guess work. BIG THANKS!!

I started a thread asking this, but I guess I can ask it here too:

I'm in the market for a new TV and I've narrowed it down to the Elite or a Mitsubishi Laservue. Specifically, what I'm looking for is the TV with the best combination of screen size, price, and picture quality for 2D movies (eg, I watch a lot of Criterion and Masters of Cinema blu-rays). While there are some threads out there that discuss these two TVs, there aren't many directly comparing them, and those that do are not very detailed; so I was wondering if anyone has experience with both. I'm particularly interested in whether or not the Elite is so much better or "film-like" to justify its higher price and smaller size. I currently have a Mitsubishi 73737, and I while I love the size, I've never been blown away by the picture quality. I have no problem with viewing angle, bulk, or light in the room, so it doesn't matter to me which is better on those.

Ash

I have the same question regarding settings for 3D. I did apply your settings to the THX 3D mode with the brightness boost on high. The picture still seems a little darker than I expected based on reviews I have read about how good 3D is supposed to look on the TV. Don't get me wrong the picture is awesome in 3D but not as bright as I thought it might be. Do you use these same settings in 3D? Thanks.

DO NOT GET THE LASERVUE! I started the Official 2011 Laservue thread last year as soon as I got mine and within days the tv started to fail. It would turn off randomly, the geometry was horrible, and none of the picture settings would stick. I contacted Mitsubishi immediately and over the course of TWO months nothing was ever done. I will never get another Mitsubishi product, Check the Laservue forum and you will see similar stories and similar results with Mitsubishi. I finally replaced the Laseruve with Elite 70x05 and have never been happier. It is by far the best set I have ever owned (I even owned a Pioneer Signature Elite 141)! Hopefully you will take my advice and not waste your money like I did.

Not even close, get the Elite. If you have seen the Laservue you won't look at it again.

I had purchased the Mits Laserview a few years ago over the phone. It shipped from California. The image was 65 inch picture. The image bothered my eyes. The colors were too intense. I payed over 100 dollars to ship back. Was I happy they took the return. Had to buy
another tv from the California company at the time. As you are reading this forum, consider the elite. I am waiting for these tv's to show up at stores.........

^^^ I do not agree at all if one is wall mounting. The screen should be about 40" up off the floor to the bottom of the TV in my book, so the TV will be out of harms way and the reach of little ones. To each his own though.

Can you check where Elite units that you have are manufactured, Mexico and what plant? I am hearing that they are moving manufacturing and will be bringing Elite units from Japan. I need to understand if current 70" units are made in Mexico. Thanks.

Debating getting an Elite (60 inch). Are there any former Samsung LNXXA950 owners out there who bought an Elite and can offer some comparisons between the 2 sets? Thanks!

Hello Everybody

I recently purchased a 65inch XBR950 from Sony and found a dead pixel. Since then I have been really disappointed with Sony for the amount of money I paid for the set which was $5k.

Now I am considering to look in to a 60 Inch ELITE. Do a lot people have had dead pixel issues with the 60 inch ELITE ? And also, is the panel 240 Hz like the Sony is in standard configuration ? How is the 3D ?

I am seeing the minimum price of $4500 on amazon for the 60 Inch ELITE. Is that a fair price ?

Thanks

Shazii00,
I recognize you from the Sony thread. I am bouncing between the same TV's as well and decided on the Elite for the same concerns you have had.

$4500 is an excellent price and the lowest I found so far sans $4450 one of those sites where it looks like their inventory "fell off a truck" somewhere.

The prices were fairly steady around $4999 until the holidays recently brought them down to the $4500-$4600.

Call the danbury CT Best Buy. They should be within a few hundred dollars of that for the 70". Yes, the 70". And being Best Buy, if there are any issues, you can exchange it at any other best buy.... Not to mention Reward Zone points and zero % financing.
Thanks

$4500 is an excellent price and the lowest I found so far sans $4450 one of those sites where it looks like their inventory "fell off a truck" somewhere.
The prices were fairly steady around $4999 until the holidays recently brought them down to the $4500-$4600.

Hey PalJoey

Check with the RGB patterns for any dead pixels and let me know when you get a chance. I have White, Black, Red, Green, Blue and Gray 1080p solid backgrounds. I can email those to you if you want.

I don't know if I would step down to the 60 inch now after the 65 inch for more than a week but if the ELITE is problem free I might have to consider it. If not then I would just spend a couple of grand less and get something cheaper to last me til 4K.

I will check the ELITE at Best Buy soon to see if they're plagued by the same pixel issue as Sony. And maybe Sharp might have a better 0% dead pixel tolerance unlike Sony's 0.01%. I believe ELITE might not have any dead pixels because it will be much more crucial to them as they are packing RGBY subpixels rather than RGB only.

Thanks

I've got a question I'm hoping might be answered by fellow Elite owners: I've tried RadTech's settings, CNET's settings, and the settings recently posted by NW831 (forget his full username) and I cannot seem to obtain a 'true' purple color. For example, yesterday I was watching the Vikings vs. Bears game and the purple of the Vikings uniforms was clearly more bluish than purple. The scoreboard in the upper left part of the screen was especially evident. I'm not talking about splitting hairs here - the purple looks like a royal blue with a dash of purple vs. having a true purple that's a little blue. Anyone else using these settings with this same issue? I'm hoping to get my set ISF'd over the next few months but this is annoying. Ideas welcome!
