You would buy a edge lit local dimming set that has already been reported the have some flash lighting and clouding over a FALD set. No way if he can go for the JS9500 FALD set..

Does anyone have any experience with Sharp TVs? I have a hook up that can get 40% off and because of that I am leaning sharp over Samsung for the price of an70-80 inch 4k TV. They are releasing their 2015 lineup in the spring. Is there a thing inherently wrong with sharp tvs and how do you expect their 2015 models to compare to sammys 2014 or 15 ?

Unfortunately I have only two choices thanks to samsung not having any stock to replace my unit with. I can stick with my 75HU8550 and suffer the clouding issues during the dark scenes, or I can get it replaced with a 78" JU7500.

Your idea is to wait for a JS9500 and I wish I could, but I dont have $10,000 MORE dollars to throw down on top of the $3000 samsung would give me as a refund for my tv.

I am leaning towards taking the JU even though I dont even like curved, but I can accept it I guess. Cant understand why samsung wouldnt give the option of an evolution kit processor upgrade for the 2015 models, when even my 2012 plasma can do it.

Returned my QS04 65hu8550 and got a 65js8500 for $3150+tax at best buy yesterday. Was able to use a 10% off movers best buy coupon after changing my usps address. Haven't had time to test it out much but from the little I've seen so far, it's pretty great.

bummer. must be something in my chain. i've tried multiple HDMI cables, so pretty certain its not that. unfortunately i don't have another TV with ARC to test with. then I could at least isolate whether it's the TV or the soundbar..

if your really interested in figuring it out, it may be worth taking your receiver in to either a store and testing it or a local repair shop and testing each port (2nd option being what I would do).

Samsung has dropped the ball this year, 65" flat to 78" curved with no options in between. Missing an huge market for that 70-75" crowd. 65 is too small for my viewing area and I am essentially FORCEd to go 78" curved because of it. I told my wife last night, I feel the industry is forcing the 'large screen crowd' to accept curved.

Can someone explain 'flashlighting' to me?

On my screen, when there are dark areas, and something bright appears int he middle of the screen, I see the dark areas on teh side of the bright object get brighter from the object out to teh edge of the tv. Is that flash lighting?

Hi everyone, I have seen tons of conversations about 2015 SEK-3500 OCB but not about the Tizen OS that comes with it. Or am I wrong here? Understood that people don't have it yet but can you share your preliminary thoughts? Also I am assuming that the 2014 OCB cannot be upgraded via software to Tizen. Please correct me here. I have a 65" HU9000. Thanks.

3500 OCB brings tizen in tow. Tizen is cool but its only really a visual change that the user sees. In fact its a bit confusing coming from their 2014 smart TV platform for me at least sometimes. The real big change is gonna be for the app devs. It also brings VP9 support.

F9000 with SEK-2500U tv goes off every minute now

I have the F9000 and the update loaded the other day, now I cannot keep the tv on for more than a minute, keeps turning off, afraid to reflash it because it could shut down before the flash completes, any solutions to do major problem, I have the SEK-2500U one connect box.

This is not correct Samsung internally has already confirmed for me that OCB will bring better upscaling auto depth enhancer and new pur colour..

I was just talking about tizen specifically. The other stuff should be upgraded as well.

I am 100% sure the majority of people accept that as 'normal'... its the reason I am doing a return/exchange. Should we really accept that for a $5-10k tv?

Why not ask for a 75JU7100 - Same set as the 7500 but without the curve. Won't solve your other issues of not have full OCB though

too far of a downgrade, they even warned me if I do that and have another issue they wont let me exchange again for anything higher level than that.

Hmm, I thought that was called backlight bleed. Well, in that case, my tv has none of that. I'm not sure if I can capture what i see by camera, so i guess i'll just assume its normal.

An example would be the samsung screensaver. The screen is black except the logo somewhere on the screen. Where ever the logo is, the darkness beside it right over to the edge of the tv gets brighter slightly. So if the logo were to slide down the screen, the light bars would follow. ... I can't really explain it, oh well.

sounds like a combination of variations of banding and edge light bleed.

Is your screen size set to 16:9 possibly? Screen Fit I think is the appropriate setting, could be the source material on the edge of the screen, probably not but worth a shot.

So I've been messing around with AMP I had been using the clear preset. For some reason if I use smooth or standard I get a pretty substantial jump in picture quality but at the cost of SOE. Is there any reason that the picture quality should be that much better in those modes?

@player002

You seem pretty knowledgeable about AV in general, and usually have pretty good sources and info. Anyhow. A friend of mine got a hold of a Samsung rep and the rep told him that all the 2013/2014 UHDTV panels are 8bits. All of them. Only the 2015 SUHDTV's are 10bit. He also gave some extra insight about the SEK-3500U/ZA, which falls in line with what you have been saying. So my question to you is, was the Samsung rep misinformed about the 8bit vs 10bit panels information? Or was he bull****ting my friend?
I have the HU9000 by the way, and I just pre-ordered the SEK-3500U/ZA on Amazon.

Cheers

yes he is misinformed about the panels we found all panels the ones that were listed s 8 bit are less expensive then the panels listed as 10 bits . This year samsung has taken off the bit listings for there panels when u order parts.. however if you look at the ju line which is 8 bits the panels are much cheaper in price then last years 10 bit panels and are the same price as last years 8 bit panels.. I am 100% that all 9000/8700 are 10 bits and around 60% of 8550 also were 10 bits
