I have been using auto, but not sure that is the best option.
my guess would be either auto or strip metadata. I don't have the 203 yet so i can't definitively say.

I have absolutely no intention of upgrading anytime soon, but curious what others think on this.
I've stated elsewhere just how good I think this panel is. I have an lg OLED g6 and while it is great in many ways, I still prefer the 950b, crisper brighter picture with no annoying black crush issues. Many of the well produced shows I watch on Amazon and Netflix almost seem to be hdr, can't imagine a better looking image. Overall prefer this to the newer Sony z series which has far worse off axis viewing issues, its picture quality quickly deteriorates off axis. Enjoy. Regards. Ned.

I am facing a dilemma since I purchased a new amplifier (Cary Audio SI 300.2d) to replace an old Onkyo sr606. Since I enjoy music the most, that meant going from 7.1 to 2 channel. The amp does not accept audio from the optical output of the Sony, leaving only the mini jack output on the side panel. Has anyone attempted to pass audio from that output through RCA cables to an amp or receiver?

It should pass audio just fine, but I haven't personally used this method. I am attaching a screen shot of the manual that deals with this to help out.

Hope I can get some clarifying info. One of the main reasons I bought this TV was the ability to use skype. I knew that they stopped supporting in certain ways but the app worked fine. I recently learned that all support ended on June 30, 2017 and the app no longer works, which is quite upsetting. I used Skype a lot to chat with my family across the country and loved the comfort of siting on my couch and talking to them.

Are there any workarounds?

Hook up your computer or laptop via HDMI cable and get a webcam (or use existing tv webcam w/usb extension) and you can Skype all you want.

Not using the TV's built-in features but it gets the video feeds on the screen.

Anyone out there still using this X950B display?

Still using mine daily. I think it still holds its own even compared to the latest 4K HDR/DV tvs.

This TV was ahead of its time when it was released.

Still one 85" model for sale apparently!

Sure, I use it every day. I've got a 75" Z9D in my home theater, but the 65" 950B in my living room gets more use. I'm still happy to own it.

I love my 950B and since my Kuro died I moved it out of my media room and into the family room, where it performs even better due to the bright room vs dar room. I got a Sony 65" AE1 for my media room, can't wait to add a new Sony in the family and curious how the 950B will stack vs the AE1 on no HDR content.

I would really love to hear your assessment on how the 950B stacks up to the AE1!!! I absolutely love my 950B and have no intention of getting rid of it for a long time...but I'm very curious how the best screen ever made (my biased opinion only) compares up to a new model with HDR.

I would also love to hear how you think the Oppo 203 plays on both monitors, as I am running a 203 on my 950B and love the performance...again would really like to hear your analysis on how much if any improvement the AE1 brings to the table.

Will do for sure. MY AE1 is arriving December 27th (is the scheduled delivery) unfortunately I pulled the trigger a couple of days after Black Friday at Best Buy and they were sold out.

Hello Everyone,

I just "inherited a 85X950B set and finished reading all 2500 posts in this thread.

Can anyone direct me to some baseline calibration settings while I'm waiting to have it ISF calibrated (sometime in 2 months from now due to work/family obligations.

Thank you.

Has anyone looked into the HD Fury Linker for obtaining hdr to sets capable of hdr but no firmware for them? It appears this device can get hdr features to TVs like the xbr65x950b. Anyone out there that has looked this up??

Wondering if you finally received delivery of the AE1 on the 27th...and if you have had time to compare its capabilities to the 950B yet???

I received my A1E on December 22nd, been playing quite a bit with the settings and as I mean timed to another member in a PM, I’m Happy to report that the A1E is a much better tv overall than the 950B, first of all the HDR is amazing. The PQ and contrast blows the 950B out of the water, this is obviously due to the 950B not supporting HDR10 or DV... the upscaling and the motion are an upgrade although the 950B was superb already. The A1E does a better job at handling SDR content and the smooth gradation is the killer feature in my opinion. sports also look better, the football mode is actually worth using now and it has better setting management, although messy as hell... I don’t understand why Sony sucks at menu nesting...it’s bad. The remote controller is forgettable yet does the job.

Sound wise, A1E is also better, game mode much better! I love the auto input feature.

The one area where I think the 950B beats the A1E is pure brute brightness, although because of the incredible contrast of the A1E, you won’t miss it, more so when you realize the blooming is all but gone....

Listen, I love my 950B, but as a home theater setup like I have it’s not even close.... if you had the tv in a bright environment I’d say be cautious .... but if dark is where the TV will live, it’s not even in the same league....

So, ur saying the A1E is hands down a better tv huh?

How are UHD movies on the Oppo 203? I have that player...wondering how much better they look with the OLED screen and HDR?

The 950B was my first full array set and it was like I was seeing the color black for the first time! Does the A1E really blow the 950B away that much at black levels?

Sorry, I am trying to talk myself out of toying with the idea of upgrading!

I also wanted to ask what made you decide to go with the A1E over the Z9D?

Both appear to be amazing sets with pros and cons for each...

Don’t sound so surprised, the contrast and perfect blacks are game changing... unfortunately the lack of HDR support on the 950B puts the A1E on a complete different league in PQ from sources that are HDR.... if we have an non HDR source, let’s say a quality Blu-ray, the A1E will still win because of the perfect blacks...

The Oppo 203 is amazing, I haven’t tried the Oppo with my 950B, using the Samsung and movies look good but in my opinion not better than normal Blu-ray on the 950B, there’s something about the HDR meta that makes UHDs look washed out on the 950B... I’m sure the Oppo would resolve this. I’ll give it a shot this weekend.

I still love my 950B but dangit I've got some dead pixels (black all the time, no amount of "fixes" have worked) right in the middle of my screen. Typically it isn't noticeable, but on bright scenes such as looking at a sky or white area, there it is...can't be unseen. Now I'm trying to think about what my best option will be. Should I see about getting it repaired or replace? I have only had it for about 2 years. If I replace it will be A1E, but I'm not too keen on spending a ton of money since I just bought it such a short time ago.

Well, maybe it was fate...but a DIY accident caused major damage to 950B...so now I MUST replace it!

I'm super upset, as I really loved that tv, we all know how expensive they were, and I still don't understand why/how it happened...but I got a great deal on a XBR65A1E today on base for $2999 with no tax!

Getting it delivered on Saturday and am super stoked!

Question though, is there anything that I can do with the busted 950B besides the garbage?

That was an easy choice... the bigger question was between LG and Sony's OLED.... I never once considered LED's because of my viewing preference... perfect blacks + best-in-class viewing angles for my Home Theater....

I believe the Z9D is the best LCD tech, but I didn't want any of the native LCD issues (Blooming, viewing angles, not-so-perfect blacks) because I was using this TV almost exclusively from an Oppo source for UHD material in a very dark environment.

Pretty sure this is a long shot but I have a 65X950B that I replaced with a 65A1E so I no longer need. I live in Boise, Idaho and am trying to sell it. Any takers here? Not asking for much. Let me know!

There is a classifieds section "for sale"; you should post there!

In case you're wondering, my setup: Sony 65x930E, Denon x3200W, 2 Martin Logan 35XT, 1 ML Motion 8 Center Channel, and 1 ML Dynamo 700W Sub.
