I'm lost in the blue nowhere.
That is the problem, I am not an owner. I did call Vizio but w/o serial number etc the discussion ends right there.

Apologies for upsetting some people.

The Marino fake spike was the final straw for me as a Jet fan when I lived in NY. I became a Dolphin fan from that point on, long before I moved to South Florida and got Dolphin season tickets for a few seasons.

To see that happen ripped my heart out last Sunday. But it never should have come to that. The Fins should have covered the third down Aaron Rodgers fumble.

Or, rather, "A-Aron"

I've got the UHDTV and mount in cart at Costco, will call their AMEX line to confirm warranty and price matching for Black Friday policy.

Does the Vizio support Apple AirPlay?
That's handy and my Denon 4520CI supports it in the basement....

"Item may be available in your local warehouse for a lower, non delivered price", I need to call the 5 Costcos in my area to see if I can save some....

.. from history on the plasma side of this Forum, its been a big 'no-no' to transport big-screen sets, especially 70" size, on its sides; the stress on the corners is a major weakness .. even though plasma uses diff. panels. It should have been transported, standing up. Should have found another friend and/or vehicle to transport.

So you get the same 2-year warranty (one-year warranty extension) from Costco whether you purchase with the Costco Amex card or not?

What about if you purchase with a standard Amex card - does that get you another year (3 years total) or not?

In average viewing content (whatever that means :-), how often do you suppose it might be noticeable enough to 'pull you out of the movie' if you are sensitive to it but not looking for it. Not once in Bourne last night suggests it's probably a small issue. If I notice the backlight dimming once or twice in an average movie and the number of movies it is so distracting that I intervene to turn off local dimming is 1-2 movies out of a 100 (1-2%), I'd be good.
I think that is totally subjective and you'll have to make your own judgement. With old school DLPs, all I could see was rainbows - one of those things that once I had noticed it, it was permanent. We can all drive ourselves crazy trying to find perfection. Will I notice it occasionally? I'm sure I will, but I won't be focusing on it or looking for it.

It "overlaps". So you'll get coverage from Amex and Costco at the same time.

My friend has a p series 60" inch and we are trying to setup this tv in a head to head comparison, can one of you guys tell me what the hdmi black level setting is on the p series?

I tried finding it last night and couldn't find a setting that looked like it was for this and i have seen this setting on all other modern tv's.

If it doesn't have this setting I am guessing it's locked down to 16-235 limited range?

If your non-Costco branded AMEX card offers the up to one year extended warranty then you can add an additional year to the standard Costco 2 year warranty on televisions. My AMEX card offers has the extended warranty feature and I have used it but I don't know if all AMEX cards have this feature. AMEX offers a lot of "branded" cards. Regardless of whether you use the Costco AMEX card or not, you still get a 2 year warranty (one year from the manufacturer and an additional year from Costco).

opps, forgot - The setup I have is strictly Rec.709 (TV Legal), that is, everything below video 17 and above video 235 is clipped. - More coming in the morning in post 2 re: basic setup with 2 point Grayscale included.

I believe the way it works is AMEX extends the original manufacturer warranty. When you buy from Costco it's Costco that extends the warranty to 2 years. So, when you buy with an AMEX it extends the original 1 year manufacturer warranty but that coincides with Costco's extended 1 year. In effect you still only get 2 years of warranty.

Edit nm I see what you are asking now. As far as I know, no one has tested HDMI black level as anytime besides low or off may crush blacks for "standard" video playback that is not done via an HTPC/computer that is set for the "expanded" levels.

That's just the director's vision (if Michael Bay ever has anything close to a vision). I also just watched that movie, and it looks like they add artificial film grain to it. Probably to make the movie and all that CG look more gritty/realistic.

That is not the way it works. AMEX adds up to one year on top of all previous warranties, but they only pay after all previous warranties have been exhausted. You could get the Costco 2 year, plus the Square Trade for a total of 5 years and AMEX will give you another year.

That is probably why then Buzz dosent have one thus no need to test for the HDMI levels. Most here are using a straight TV without HTPC. I know I saw more tech testing on the hardforums site. You may find what you need there as they are PC focused.

i know all about how to handle this from a pc perspective, i need to know how to set expanded on the visio, if it isn't possible then we will set all of the devices to limited.

mainly a PC and ps3.

I'm lost in the blue nowhere.
Except that Transformers 4 is filmed digitally, and the grain also appears over the CG. It's a post-production effect, and I think it detracts from the picture.

Film grain on old movies is the nature of the beast, but artificial grain on new movies is stupid (at least when they're heavy-handed with it).

That's what I was saying. There is a dedicated thread for the P series on the hardforums. They may have more detailed information regarding how to set the TV.

Have you (or anyone else) had a chance to try it? I don't want to derail this thread with talk about it, so I started another one to see if people would be willing to try it out and give their impressions:

Play the test video "El Fuente: 60 MP10" and see what bitrate you're getting.
