Sony XBR850B 49" for (1499.99) or Vizio P series 50 inch (1139.99)

SONY
-4k
-120hz
-edge lit

VIZIO
-4k
-240hz
-FALD

I mainly use for ps4 gaming and watching blu ray content. heard good things about XBR displays and SONY tvs usually work well with ps4. however, VIZIO seems like an unbeatable value with FALD and they claim a 240hz refresh rate. On paper I am leaning towards the P series but I am thought id turn to the maniacal minds of the AVS community for input before i make a decision. my decision will mainly depend on picture quality (as this is the most important to me). ANY input or thoughts, or suggestions (on other displays) is greatly appreciated!

btw i am from canada

Future shop and best buy currently 1139.99 in Canada. I'm sure the sale price will most likely be around 1k.

Just a heads up about the Vizio, it's a 120Hz panel with a bogus 240Hz refresh rate. There are no 4K TVs with a native 240Hz panel from any manufacturer, no matter what marketing BS they throw at you.

You'll notice Vizio's site says it has an effective 240Hz refresh rate. In this context, "effective" doesn't mean efficient, it means "basically" or "essentially."

thanks for the heads up! There was definitely slight doubt in my mind about that 240hz refresh rate thanks for confirming!

I ended up buying an open box SONY XBR55X900A for 899.99. Although this is a 2013 model with warranty the display was 1150.00 all in. I figured it was a win win. If the tv is defective, i may have to go through some hassle with the warranty but in the end will probably get a brand new XBR900B.

Was this a good deal?

Wow that's a great deal considering the X900A was their flagship 2013 4K TV and retailed for $5500 when new. It uses quantum dot LED edgelighting with local dimming and has great picture quality.
You may want to have a read through the owner's thread, if you got one of the original production runs of this TV (check the back sticker, the early runs were produced in Japan). These original runs, if I recall, did not ship with a newer HDMI chipset and required a board swap from a service technician in order to use HDCP 2.2 for Sony's 4K media player. I don't know if Sony if still doing this board swap gratis but it's worth looking into.
