That would be unfortunate. And, from here, the rationale would be hard to fathom. IPS panels cost significantly less? "Budget" $3.5k buyers care more about viewing angle than high-end $4,500 buyers? Some buyers will see the "black" they can buy with $3.5K and decide to pop the $4.5k for "better" LCD black?

Sure wish Panasonic would get with the program and tell us some reasonable price and availability for the CX850...

So it begins...

Sony held an event here in NYC yesterday showing the 2015 lineup to the press so we should see articles soon.

This website also say what the differences are between the X850C vs X830C

http://ledtv-usa.blogspot.com.es/201...and-x850c.html

Says the X850C uses a Va panel & the X830C uses a IPS panel...

Well looks like Sony has the price up for the X850C as $4,999.99. So I guess maybe all the other rumored prices maybe correct.

According to sony and some other TV websites the only different between 75X850C and 75X910C is the thin design right?

Also 910 is edge-lit, 850 is direct-lit and the speakers are different.

More excited about the thin form factor however, wouldn't the display have to tilt downward slightly if mounted over say a fireplace? So it would not be taking advantage of their touting a flush mount design, the X910C comes with its own mount to achieve this I presume.

I am actually excited. Nice big 75" display; new X1 processor which will upscale regular tv and HD to 4k, which is very important now; Andriod apps, 960 motion flow, along with color features from 2014 models and now 10 bit panels. Seems like they will be very nice sets but only time can tell and it is in my home and reviewed.

Disappointed, because it appears 4:4:4 is still broken.
Until there is information that SONY decided to fix their HDMI 2.0 implementation I won't be swayed.

These are televisions for movies and televisions shows not PC monitors. You should look into stand alone monitors. smh

That would have been a valid argument last year, when practically NO ONE in the TV industry got it (HDMI 2.0 implementation) right.
But this year is a different story. (*tsk *tsk Samsung, LG, Panasonic)

What are the pros and cons with direct LED backlighting? From what I understand, direct lit LCDs usually have better uniformity at the cost of being thicker. I could care less about thickness and assuming all other things equal, I should be fine with a 55x850c and not have to jump to the 55x900c.

Will the X930C and such be able to produce picture quality like the JS9000/JS9500, that's pretty much the only new TV I've seen thus far and I was very impressed. But these might be more within my budget.

Is the FALD tech very significant?

direct lit the whole panel is one big light so you lose the ability to have zones dim.Direct LED is the worst out of the 3 .. fald is 1 then edge and last is direct lit ..

Yes, 2014 the Sony's were rated higher than the Samsungs. Sony has better upscaling. 2015 Samsung upped their game. We won't know until the 2015 Sony models ship how they compare.

Yes FALD is significant and it's expensive. Around a $3,000 premium over an edge lit model in the same size.

Okay. Gotcha. Thanks for that. Guess I'll be stepping up to the 55X900C then.

Why? More specifically, why is direct worse than edge? "Full Array" implies direct lit. What makes direct better than edge when brightness is modulated for multiple areas and worse than edge when it's not?

from my people they say that sony has better colour this year(excluding JS series they did not compare against it) but say that Samsung has sharper picture on all lines . They said upscaling this year on Samsung is excellent. ..

Does everybody agree with this? Edge lit dimming has shown to be prone to screen uniformity issues like banding. Of course the VA panels seem to be more susceptible to these issues, especially radial banding (70W and X850b).
