My center is about 4 inches tall so yes mine does block it a bit (the visible bottom edge of the tv sits about 2.5 inches high off the table with the stand and that's including the bezel. the stand its self sits the tv physically 1 in 3 quarters inches high.

Im planning on mounting the tv anyways

D'Hell? What shenanigans is this? We know what the launch prices were.

They're trying to make it look like the TVs received a price cut. When it hasn't.

Every manufacturer does this every year. Msrp is always jacked up.

Otherwise the Samsungs would be better deal. You know, nobody wants to pay full price.

Can anyone explain why my pc (Nvidia gtx 970 gpu) is listing 1080p as the native display resolution on my x850c? I can switch to 4k no problem but seems odd... Can post pic later...

I have the 75JU7100 right now and am really disappointed in the clouding / backlight bleed in the four corners of the screen and these are huge blobs and not really coming from the corners like bleed on other TV's I have seen more like four big spots in the corner areas. Can you take a pic of your screen with a 100% black test slide up in cinema pro and see what the screen looks like? I can swap this for the Sony XBR-75X850C and have it delivered Friday which is what I am leaning towards. It is very distracting when watching movies or dark scenes.

Bro ..It a 2013 KDL 50R450a with a rear lit Samsung 5000: 1 CR semi gloss panel arguably a better panel contrast wise than *all of 2014 1080p Sonys* below the x9xxx sets (which are another discussion altogether and pretty decent ) thing Scored a solid 7.9 overall 9.2 Dark and 9.3 bright at rtings.com ( it *beat the W850B in dark and bright there* and IMO ( other than pixel count ) the 55x850B I saw at B B you probably know it all starts with the contrast , black levels and calibration ( more important than pixels above 10080p )
That was before Sony got cheap and started using AUO edge lit panels in 2014 in *some* sets and NO FALD LGD in *some others* and significantly lower spec Samsung panel in the W600B .

As an LCD goes it makes very good color and (obtainable blacker than black blacks if you want at some compramise but .016-.022 is fine ) and a really good picture in general for 1080p LCD (especially after I calibrated it) but like 95% of the LCD out there short of a Sammy JS 9500 /9000 , Sony X950B ,X900B (maybe *x940C and X930C * I'm thinking * )......... my 2013 Sammy Plasma totally destroys it and most any LCD and when you compare them or just walk from one room to another here the difference is obvious as a train wreck

I'm going to look at the 55X850C this weekend (and ofc the better Sony's just too see them ) and unless it's significantly (read remarkably ) better than the 2014 XBR 55x850B (and the Sony in this room that the 55x850B isn't at all besides pixel count ) and I'm hoping it is ,it will be added into the same list of ( Not bad half way decent OK )mostly not better than this one mediocrity as that one although wit presumably a VA panel (hopefully Samsung) and Triluminous thang we will see

Mediocrity is a very relative term for many people regarding the product they buy. To some a 2 grand TV will be far and away be the best TV they've ever had to others it's lower than they'd ever consider. But I'd never consider a TV in the tier of a x850b/c mediocre

One thing that is bugging me though is that it doesnt list 1080p 12bit under display info when i have my ps4/xbox one set to deep color like my w600 did but maybe it just doesn't say it on this model? Ps. sorry for my cell phone camera
How is the black level compared to the Samsung JU7100?

I do have to say the biggest thing that impressed me about the 7100 was the black level and the supposed hardware level dimming. But I'll post a shot in a little while once I'm home. First impressions are good and that's at 40 out of 50 backlight level

mediocre
Be that as it may ( I ain't seen the C yet ) OTOH if you had a decent plasma (and weren't blind ) you would throw rocks at the Sony 850B's most likey the C also in comparison along with just about everything else out there short of an OLED or X950B,X900B maybe the X940C and X930C and Sammy JS9500/9000........I'll let U know when I check that out if U want ?

It ain't just me bro check out the nationally recognized (even at Cnet ultimate TV V.E.(Value Electronics 2014 Ultimate TV shoot out ) or just get with ABS staffer imajic here or check out David Katzmaier at Cnet he will be the first one to say the same thing,it's just what it is

The Sammy Plasma destroyed everything Sony and everyone else brought to the house aside from the LGD OLED and ( Samsung $25,000.00 OLED ) and despite all that it still WON the shootout bro. and the audience was industry experts and expert enthusiasts that knew the scoop.☺

Look it up ? TBH the Sony x850B ain't all that ,ain't seen the C yet ,B's OK arguably half way decent but it ain't nothing remarkable.
if it was I would have it in here right now ............ why U think I'm going Sat.to look at the 2015 55X850C I ain't seen yet ?

That's my problem my Sammy PDP got me spoiled ..............I like the 2013 Sony in here and all but it can't cant touch the Sammie PDP neither can the 2014 850B's .....they ain't even close ..☺☻

Not to mention ( if you can find an f8500 Sammy Plasma ) expect to pay double or more the orig selling price and 5K or better for a used one on Amazon . Same thing for the Pananasonic VT/ZT plasmas another Sony and LCD in general destroyer ..if a TV could give a dude a ..... that would be the one and maybe the f8500 Sammy too ! . ofc the X950B x900B and Sammy JS9500/9000 ain't slouches either .........

If you you ain't seen one of those Pannys you REALLY missed out ...... of course it one of those things :

If you know ,you know ,if you dont, you dont ............that's all bro ...nothing to hate about just what it is .

When I had the sony xbr 850b for 2 weeks, the blu ray picture was jaw dropping to me. It absolutely destroyed my samsung f7100 1080p tv. Had edge bleed problems tho. I exchanged for the samsung 8550, WHAT A DOWNGRADE IN PQ!!! I was then forced to exchange for the hu9000 just 2 get a tv that came close the sony. Blu rays are certainly better on the 9000 than the 8550, due to the auto depth enhancer feature which gives everything that pop/3d look I like, but overall the sony 850b has better processing/upscale.

.. make U throw rocks at a Blue ray also ) it *actually has* a little better Samsung panel than the 850B AUO panel contrast and black level wise and a lot better than the LGD panel in the X850B ..

FWIW My 2013 Sony Scored a solid 7.9 overall 9.2 Dark and 9.3 bright at rtings.com ( it *beat the W850B in dark and bright there* ) .

OTOH the Sammy Plasma destroys it there too ! I'll be checking out the X850C sat though . IOW if its way better than this Sony ,I might pick it up otherwise not . I don't expect it to touch the Sammy plasma ......... I just went to see if it's better (and if I might want one ) than the 2013 Sony in here that the 2014 850B and x850C were not that's all

........ my 2013 1080p Sony can do that on a Blue Ray . (4K factory demo loop high bit rate files re scaled in the PC to 1080p that would make U throw rocks at a Blue ray also ) it *actually has* a little better Samsung panel than the 850B AUO panel contrast and black level wise and a lot better than the LGD panel in the X850B ................. I suppose I should say I've worked at Best buy sense October last year lol. We had a 51 inch Samsung 8500 plasma for $800! A steal! But my girlfriend would have murdered me if I got a TV that soon after she bought me the Sony 600b... That's a great TV no doubt. Reference level black levels!

Not trying to get off topic, but which do you prefer as a gaming console? I am getting the 850c and am looking for one to complement the TV. I am not a gamer and don't have any investment in games or a specific platform. I like COD and Fifa. Just curious, and thanks for the info on the set!

cool U can be da Sony man right behind Carlos _ E !

TBH my 2013 1080p Sony R4 that *actually beat * the W850B the bright /dark viewing scores at rtings.com and actually looks better to me than the 55X850B that I saw at BB other than 2K vs 4K is pretty darn good and I wouldn't throw rocks at it at all.

IMO Sony got cheap but not real cheap with the 2014 panels in the W600B and 850B and X850B but that not withstanding they are all class leading pretty good none the less like the 2013 R4's . The W700B didn't do anything for me OTOH but didn't strike me as being bad either Same with the W600B's which at their prices are real decent .

OTOH you can probably see my delima now with *this 2013 Sony* being as good as it is and being spoiled by my 2013 Sammy plasma that's my prob and the fact the 2014 R4's were sleepers and better than the W600B and to an extent the W850B in *some most important * things and besides 3D is no issue for me OTOH it validates choosing the 2013 R4 in feb 2014 at a decent discount also I didn't miss anything

With 50-55 " being the size for *this room* other than the 51f8500 which I wouldn't mind in here but *this room* /home office /BR is probably too bright for it in daylight and being retired I watch lots of news on *this Sony* with fixed and rolling images and banners and sometimes half dead talking heads that barley move they lips ☻☻* in here Baseball too! !

I don't play that stuff much on the Sammy plasma LCD destroyer so any 50-55" LCD (if this Sony ain't broke in a major way ) which I could fix easily anyway ( having a general class FCC licence and all ) .....and as long as the panel was OK any 50 55" needs to be a *lot better* than this Sony.☺☻

4K isn't an issue *for me* YMMV I'm more concerned with overall picture quality but too cheap to pony up for a Sony X9xxx when I already have the Sammy plasma in the frt room UR right at 8 Benjamin for that 51f8500 is a steal dang ...........................

DANG..... I might end up having to wait until HDR trickles down to the pheasants like me I'm not really into Vizio either I've owned 4 Sony's
and liked every one of them and didn't mind paying the usual Sony tax...........

With that being said how would you position the Sony X850C as opposed to the 850B below 70" (which would tell me something ) and likewise the 55X850B which would tel me if they are better or not than x850B which I'm presuming they are with VA panels and all ?

I'm curious what VA panels Sony is using in the x850C I'm assuming any 70 or 75" sets would be Samsung panels ?
Seems like some of *their panels* are better than some of *their* TV's ☻☻

I'm going to B.B see the 55x850C and the rest of the Sony's this weekend mainly just to look at the X940C /X930C and drool a little in there and maybe see if I might want an 55x850C *in here* a little later in the year

Sent from my Windows 10 computer .............. no really it's running Windows 10 beta aka Windows 10 Pro Insider Evaluation Copy Build 10074 ☻

Sony TV ........... Sony PS4 ? (or maybe PS3 with a reference level DVD/Blue Ray Player that makes it worth it *just for that* ) mmmm .... both decent 1080p gamers OTOH PS4 does not do DNLA steaming (like PS3) but can do Netflix etc like PS3, does but so can the TV

Who can trust Microsoft and if U don't play Forza Motorsport 5 Why would anybody want Xbone one ...they and PS4 both use multiple x86 AMD Jaquar APU inside anyway (no clear HDWE advantage ) and PS3 /PS4 play COD and Fifa albiet PS4 might (does) have better (game graphics ) than PS3 and probably X bone

PS4 has a decent 24p /1080p (regular Movie Blue Ray ) BD /DVD player but terrible 1080i de interlacing fine with 1080p ....OTOH the PS4 * may not* [subject to verification] support 3D Blu-ray playback at this time but PS 3 does

OTOH PS 4 std def (interlaced )> (and *maybe* any TV episode @ 1080i and 480i BD/BR might not be so hot may have de interlace jaggies . 24p DVD/BD film content (like film movies) should be totally fine ( ..
