@LCDYes Sweet deal! That free extended warranty from Costco is a nice perk to buying there.

Just dropping in to offer updating my spreadsheet. I haven't been in the thread for some time, but if you have a calibration setup for me to post, just PM me with them or reference the Post #. If anything with the latest firmware I thought some of you may have tinkered some more

Thanks, John. My Samsung still pending a BB screwup, but hope to get it someday. Two things I noticed today about your spreadsheet -- the firmware set for most folks is at the 1.3.15 level or "?". I recently got my M55 reconnected to my network and it immediately updated to 1.3.34. I was wondering if changes in level of firmware have caused any to rework their calibration settings?

Second, I see (for the first time) your sheet on default profiles. The C55 only a backlight and sharpness listed. Would it be of help if I provide info on the missing items? Better for me to do it before I start trying to mess to accomodate the Samsung.

Long time no see I recently re-did my 3D LUT auto-calibration, and one thing I noticed immediately with the new firmware was that I had to bump up the backlight a bit to reach the same target luminance (120cd/m2). For almost a year (and on 1.3.15) I had the backlight at 67, and now it's at 72 (with 1.3.34 and after a factory reset). This is with Clear Action enabled. Not sure if the same is necessary without it. And that is basically it for me, because nothing else needs manual adjustment the way I do it. Thanks for maintaining the spreadsheet!

Thanks for the follow-up richlife. At the time people posted their settings, I'd add the FW version if it was mentioned; otherwise just note the "?". The earliest of FW versions did require folks to rework their settings, but it's my opinion that the last FW update or two haven't forced folks to rework their settings as much.

As for the default profile settings, I'd be happy to add them to the sheet. Without owning models other than my M65, I rely on others to share them if they want. Keep in mind each profile has a Reset option, but I like to see how "defaults" compare across different models.

"Remember to go with ARC Only... Enabled causes problems it looks like, going back to the XB One S cutout issues."

The above was posted as answer in 2016 MSeries thread. Would the same general rule apply if you are not using an audio system (MBR) but going straight to input 1 with Directv HR44 by HDMI.

Ok, thanks. From just these few responses, it seems the fw may lead to minor changes, but nothing big. I'll get those M55 (after reset) defaults for your when I can. I seems the BB finally got my K8500 off the shelf and on to UPS, so that may take priority...

M55-C2 or C3? I don't think they made C3s.
Anyway, mine just recently (couple of months?) updated to 1.3.34.
Since Vizio isn't as forthcoming with their change log for the older P & M series firmware updates as they are with the 2016 models, I don't think anyone can really tell what the differences are.

You mean M55-C2, no? And who would have thought we'd actually get another firmware update, and so quickly after the last one... Let's hope this one doesn't take a year to reach everyone else

Like The Coolest said, we'll never know what it fixes/adds.

2014 P-series owner also reported the new firmware version. Wonder what made Vizio bump it from 1.3 to 1.4, and not just a minor revision increase...

Question

Hmmm,

Could v1.4.13 be the infamous HDR 'compatible' firmware that was hinted at by Vizio CS reps...

Doubtful but hopefully it at least fixes the random 4K/60 blank bug and adds back 1440p 60Hz (which was removed for some reason in the more recent firmware revisions).

In the back of my mind, that's what I'm hoping. H---! That's exactly what's on my mind! They just don't change release level for nothing.

Well obviously it would not be actual HDR since the display does not meet full HDR requirements, simply a compatibility update that allows the display to handle and convert the HDR data (which would likely make for a very modest improvement). Hopefully this is not one of those firmware revisions that actually removes features/functionality (as stated by smooth above).

To me, this is important. Something significant changed, not just a "status" item. But it could also be as simple as some new panel being displayed.

Yes, I understood that. Since my K8500 is expected today, if it's what we'd like to see, I might run into a change in my config/setup activity. But that's not likely to happen until at least tomorrow.

Meanwhile, as of earlier today, still no fw update for me.

I'm not sure if the "release level" means much of anything. When I eventually made it from 1.1 to 1.3 I didn't notice anything change of importance.

I noticed my settings are shared on the spreadsheet as well (yay me lol)...but those were from a very early calibration/setup shortly after I got my M70 home. I'll post here later for grins what I use now...biggest thing for me was dropping the active led setting. Most will read that and skip anything else I'd say and that's fine, I initially loved what that did too, but over time my eyes began noticing it kicking in (and out) and once you start seeing that, you can't un-see it, grrr. Doesn't happen often, but it was enuff to experiment and after I found other settings I liked and allowed my eyes time to get used to it, heh, I basically have the same thing but minus the distraction so why not (I prefer it now anyway). I may hold off posting them though until I get the latest FW (already ). The pics in my sig are of course with this new calibration. I actually made two, one for plain old HD plus a tweaked setup for '4k' viewing (to be as good as it could be because honestly, the Philips 4k player does HDR to SDR conversion and I think it gets a little carried away with color and gamma REDUCTIONS...basically every 4k disc I've watched thus far has better resolution, definition and contrast when comparing, but they also all lack the punch, color and balanced bright/dark levels as their BD counterparts, etc..easy tweaks tho).

Excited to see a new firmware coming out. Does this apply to the M43-C1 as well?

I would LOVE if it added 1440p at 60hz. Has it ever been figured out if there is a definite way to get 1440p/60hz? I have tried a million different things to no avail. I've gotten it going using guides and the 1080p timings but definitely doesn't look very good.

Glad to see these sets still being supported.

It took nine or ten months for my M70-C3 to go from 1.3.15 to 1.3.34, skipping all other reported updates in between (for whatever reason). Just seemed like we all got that one within a day or two when it was released, unlike all other updates before.

The apps should be entirely independent of firmware updates, unless the underlying platform changed. Does it still have the same Yahoo GUI?

I was contemplating redoing the calibration I did on my M55 in June since it was done in my previous apartment and a measly C3 was used. (now I have i1 Pro and i1D3)
But now that we might be getting a new firmware, I think I'll hold that off until I get it on my set.

@Schils
I said it before, I used to watch with FALD off with the light on or in day time, and everything looked great. Apparently my M55 has a contrast of around 7000:1, so no wonder it looks really good without FALD.
But when watching in a pitch black room, I still turn FALD on, as it allowed much better blacks and very little-to-no blooming.

I'm wondering if my moving recently has something to do with it? When I brought the M70 home and got it up and running (network setup, etc) I got a couple updates in a timely manner (same days I read you all getting them here)...but I moved to a new home about 5 months ago, started a new internet service (finally got fiber lol!) with a new IP addy and account obviously...so I dunno, maybe my tv got lost in the Vizio DB shuffle?! I kinda doubt that thought because I think my bedroom 50" E series DID update since moving here.

@Coolest - yeah, I noticed on the spreadsheet you were one of the few that also have it listed "off" as well. I like your settings. Mine were not very different honestly, just some tuner differences because I think they can all vary from set to set and you need those filters and patterns to nail your own tuner calibration (unless you have the REAL tools like those meter gizmos some of you are mentioning, but that takes more talent than I have lol).

I don't think the location really matters. I got my TV in early January, it updated to 1.3.15-UHD quickly and then to 1.3.15B-UHD soon after. I moved in August to a new place and a new internet connection. I only got 1.3.34-UHD about a month or so ago.

I have your exact same problem on 4k60hz (TV M75-C1 is on 1.3.34 firmware). I'm running my setup via a receiver ARC to TV with devices before the receiver (Nvidia Shield TV, WiiU).

Initially I was on an older receiver so it capped out at 4k30hz, so I never experienced the dropping out. After I got the new receiver, I started using 4k60hz, which was fantastic at first (less input lag), but I noticed my Nvidia Shield TV kept dropping out at random times. Researched on Nvidia forums and people with SHIELD TV were experiencing same issue. Advice given by others were to reducing refresh rate to 59Hz dropped less, rare but still drops.

I'm currently running my setup at 1080p/60Hz until it gets resolved.

I played a bunch of games (and did a bit of 4K youtube) on my GTX 1080 card this week on my 2015 M65. 4K/60fps looks glorious, but every once and while the TV and PC would go blank then return with the menu displayed up top as though I had changed resolutions or just turned the PC on. There was variability in how often it happened and didn't seem to be any particular content type that caused it more than the others. Here's what I found playing around. The PC was plugged directly into HDMI 5 and I also tried multiple cables (Monoprice + another brand, both '2.0' rated cables). TV reports 1.3.34-UHD firmware and I tried a few different Nvidia drivers...
  • 4K/60Hz - Pretty frequent drops (every couple mins, sometimes a few in a row), generally annoying enough that I didn't leave it in this mode
  • 4K/59Hz - slightly less drops
  • 4K + custom refresh of 59.940 - far fewer drops, but still once every 5-10 mins. Anecdotally it felt like the longer the I played the more frequently it happened?
  • 1080p/120Hz - The odd drop as well. I wasn't sure if i was in 4:2:0 or 4:4:4.
  • 1080p/60Hz - Zero problems
  • 1080p/24Hz - Zero problems
  • 1080p/60Hz - PS4 will full range (RGB) back in the day I would get this drop maybe once a week when I was playing destiny daily

It's super annoying and really frustrating because otherwise its a magical experience. I really hope Nvidia/Vizio figure out the firmware to fix this. I also tried, though less extensively and thoroughly on a GTX 970 card and had the same general results.

Does this match up with other people's experiences?
