I would never suggest someone go into the Advanced Service Menu unless they are comfortable they can follow the directions. I may not suggest they do it if they are going to sit too far from the TV to even see what the TV is capable of. But I can not agree it is a barely noticeable difference. A better picture was not the reason the mod was being made, no one was looking for a better picture but some of us couldn't help but see a better picture. Both the people doing the most recent calibrations show there is a difference after the mod. Enough of a change that the excellent Archon X settings are not as excellent after the mod.

I have the same panel as you and have a calibration that works well for me. Check it out and see what you think.

I think I'm close to pulling the trigger on this thing. One last thought...

How's the game mode? I saw the rtings review and it scored well for input lag when in the mode. But it seems to be much worse outside of the mode.

Any other console gamers in here? Can you speak to how this set is for gaming? Does Game Mode totally ruin the picture quality? I know on my current TV the PQ really takes a dive when I turn it on.

Thanks in advance!

Samsung sent me a replacement one connect box and cable

This one connect box had a "G" at the end of the part number

It worked for a few hours and is now doing the same thing as the other box...ie..the TV wont turn on or cycles on and off when the one connect box is connected

I called Samsung and they are sending a service tech
To think this all started when I did the update that the TV prompted me to do

can you take the TV back to an earlier version?

probably did

But the tv prompted me for an update

I pressed "OK"
shortly after the same issue occurred with the new box

this is a PITA
If this was my main Tv that I watched daily I would be pretty frustrated

I am looking for a 75 Inch 4K TV. Distance from TV to Couch is 15 feet.

Looked at the Sony 850D and LG 8500 on Crutchfield, however those IPS panels consistently have issues with the black levels as noted in the rtings website too. And we do watch in a darkend room, so while the wide angle is better on the IPS, I think the black levels will be disappointing.

Now it's July 2016.. still researching and the 75 Inch non-IPS panels are limited or very expensive, so I was thinking of grabbing a 2015 Samsung 7100, although they are not available on Amazon or Crutchfield anymore.

Thoughts on the 2015 Samsung 7100 vs the 2016 Sony or LG IPS displays?

Thank you.

The OCB Mini is not like the full size OCB in that it doesn't contain the OS, so the firmware likely isn't a factor. My guess is there's something amiss on the main motherboard in the TV itself.

Good to hear! Do you use the Game Mode or just use it normally? After digging around further it seems it might not affect PQ that much. Just turning off some smoothing and such. I just want to make sure it looks good. I'm coming from a Plasma as well so I'm a bit nervous is all. Haha! Love my 58" Samsung Plasma but it's time for a size upgrade.

My miscue - in more Forums that use the OCB, I forget that my JU7100 is an OCB Mini with NO chance of upgrade! Apologies.

Firmware for Ju7100 'JS' Mod (HDR)

Hey guys,

New here and trying to see how I can get this JS Mod to activate HDR on my Ju7100. The current firmware on my TV is 1455. How do i go about getting the firmware for this JS mod or is it already included in the 1455 firmware update ? Sorry, new at this game and heard a lot of great things about about this JS Mod. After updating to 1455, i still get the Smart TV Boot Logo not the SUHD logo. So, I'm assuming the 1455 update doesn't carry over older updates ?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!! Just got the new UBD-K8500 4K player and would love to take advantage of it with the JS mod firmware.

Thanks in advance!

The JS Mod does not require firmware, it is a change made in the Advanced Service Menu. The only way to enter this menu is with a special Samsung service remote, although it can be done with a programmable Harmony remote or an Android app. It cannot be entered with the standard TV remote.

That said, I don't believe the JS Mod is necessary to get HDR from the K8500. I understand it works just fine without the mod.

If you want to get HDR from Amazon video that has HDR, the K8500 player already has the app that works, the player outputs Dolby Digital Plus audio, too, so ignore that mod entirely, I have the player and it works wonderfully.

Thanks for the answer. I have a harmony remote control as well. Is there a place or link you know of explaining how to make the change in the Advanced Service Menu ? I'd like to have HDR for as much viewing as possible.

Thanks in advance

I don't have the details with me, and forum rules prohibit providing it in the open forum. Someone will have to PM you the information.

Note that the JS Mod only offers HDR via the Amazon app. It has no effect on Netflix, nor any other app I'm aware of. There are some people that feel the mod improves perceived picture quality, while others state there's no measurable difference. I fall into the middle, in that I have the mod but can't really say for sure if it's any better. Since I don't use Amazon near as much as Netflix and my own local content, I'm probably going to turn the mod back off. I would prefer that the TV can still connect to the Samsung Smart Hub site and update my apps as necessary. With the mod you can no longer connect within about two days of making the change.

ABT Electronics out of Chicagoland has them back-ordered 1-3 weeks, Best Buy showing delivery 7/27 at least in my area (about the same time backorder) that's about all.

What I am seeing for UHD TV 75" size displays, is clear: the JU7100 in the 75" size is and was the most value for the money and now it looks like Samsung is discontinuing it without a reasonably-priced (IMO) replacement, unless you want to spend $6500 for the KS9000 (flat) model. Sure, the new 2016 KS9000 does have some improved features, but in 2015, SUHD existed alongside the JU7100 as an alternative this past year, but it seems that will be no longer.

From what I can find are the LG 75UH8500 and Sony XBR75X850D at $3500 and VISIO P75-C1 at $3800 have the 75" size in less expensive pricing.

Samsung, what happened for 2016?

Yea, I had an order on a 75inch at Best Buy on the 1st but it was backordered and supposed to arrive in store on the 14th. I didn't trust that as they state that if an item is backordered for 14 days they cancel it. So I canceled that order and ordered directly from Samsung.

Fingers crossed. It has been a little rocky so far.

1. The phone number on my PayPal was old so I called to have them change it on my order and they said they can't alter the order. Once the order ships I have to call the shipping company and make sure they have my new number. Insane.

2. Also if you order make sure you create an account first. I didn't. And I can't track or see my order status at all. I even wrote them to see if they could add my order to my account that I created post order. No go. So that's certainly annoying.

3. After the fact I noticed that their return fee is 15% so I'd better like this TV... or else.

Probably shooting myself in the foot by my desire to get this unit ASAP. Wish I could have nabbed this at the store.

My sons and I game a lot using just about all the consoles (PS4, PS3, Xbox One XBox 360, Wii U). I think games look and play great on the 7100 using Game Mode. However, I have to admit that I tried playing without Game Mode and I really didn't feel any noticeable lag so maybe I'm not horribly sensitive to it. However, I play some multiplayer games like Star Wars Battlefront and Overwatch and they feel fine. Haven't tried any rhythm games like Rockband or Guitar Hero since getting the 7100.

My biggest gripe with the 7100 and gaming is that there is no distinct IR code to switch to Game Mode. You're forced to navigate the menus to toggle it on/off. This isn't an issue if you're feeding all your devices directly into the TV, but it's a pain if you're running everything through an AVR. I ended up buying an HDMI splitter so that the output from my AVR goes into both Input 1 and Input 2 of the TV. I then leave Input 2 set to Game Mode and I have my harmony remote switch to that input whenever I play games. I also have slightly different picture settings on Input 2 as I prefer the picture a little cooler when gaming.

Is the 40" JU7100 still the most "high end" 40" set out there? I'm wondering whether to buy it (if there are still any out there), or continue to wait.

It seems like all the manufacturers have abandoned the 40" size as one to install high-end specs. Very disappointing, as I still want a killer set in my bedroom.

What do you guys think?

Thanks or your reply! That's great to hear. Seems you've been playing some shooters and haven't noticed the lag in normal viewing mode. So that's good! Also great to hear that game mode is awesome too. That's kind of a bummer with how annoying it is to switch modes. I was planning on running everything through my AVR but maybe I'd be better off running those HDMI cables into the TV direct and just outputting the 5.1 from the TV to the AVR.

Ahhhh, OK, gotcha. Not using the amazon App, might look into it though...

I did notice when playing Mad Max: Fury Road, in 4K Blu Ray, that the settings on my TV changed to Backlight - 20% and Contrast 100%. That's obviously the HDR part of the TV kicking in I assume. There is a definite difference in picture quality! I have Mad Max on Blu Ray as well. I compared my calibrated TV settings (used for Blu Ray) vs. the 4K player (HDR) settings and the the 4K picture was noticeably better. even my wife noticed! Haha!

Thanks for your help, appreciate it. I just wanted to make sure I was getting the absolute most out of my TV!

Yes, the change in backlight and contrast settings is what generally occurs with HDR material. However, apparently the same thing happens with movies contained on the Samsung UHD drive, and those movies were created before the HDR authoring tools were available. The thought is that the copies on the UHD drive have a bug in them, but your movies on UHD Blu-Ray should be authentic.

Enjoy!

Hey! Amazon has a few in stock now if you're interested. I just canceled my Samsung order and ordered the same unit for less through Amazon (no tax).
