When I plug my USB into the TV and it searches the disk, is it not finding 1464.2?

Which country are you in?
NA and Korea, unzipped FOLDER must be put on USB drive, not the folder contents. (USB drive has to be formatted as Fat32.)
Not NA or Korea, you'll have to find the Samsung download site for your country.

Per instructions ........Make Sure you plug your USB stick into the TV's USBv3 port on the back side right of the TV. NOT the USBv2 port(s) on the MiniPanel.

I've updated via the 2.0 ports on the OC Mini box. When you're wall mounted, it's not always easy to access the jack on the back of the set. Plus, I have to UHD Hard Drive plugged in there.

flashdrive/image/upgrade.msd
flashdrive/image/REL.xml
flashdrive/image/USBHardwareKeys.xml

The TV's internal updater looks for a folder with this name and then checks the version number of the update.

1464.2 is the latest update. The TV identifies it as 1464, but it's the same version.
I unzipped download and got the single "image" folder.

Inside are files:
info
REL
T-HKMAKUC_1464_2
upgrade.msd
USBHardwareKeys

USB is Fat32 formatted and only has image folder on it. I used USB input on back of TV. TV recognizes the folder, quickly scans and then shows 1464 as current software. Not nearly enough time to load a 1.5GB folder. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to rename the files as you listed or is that just expanded descriptions of files?

NOT the Image File - The Whole Folder (Containing the Image File) that's created when you unzip, MUST be put on the USB stick.

Mine updated to 1464.2 on its own. When I go to Contact Samsung, it says 1464.2.

Will be very surprised if we actually get anymore FW updates.
Expect 1464.2 to be the last. Just enough to get the amazon HDR.
Netflix HDR - doubt it. Samsung is basically saying there's external devices out there now that will do it, without us putting anymore money into it. They've moved on to CES 2017 and new Models.

Note the US and Canadian Samsung websites are still back in October. You have to go to the Korean sites, and they're starting to get harder to find now as well. Surprisingly, the Canadian website put out updates in December for the original HU9000, HU7250 and the J5200.

I may be wrong but my hunch is that 1464.2 is already installed. But, do this to check:

Go to Menu -> Support -> Contact Samsung

On that screen, under Product Information, you'll see "Software Version."

I don't think your concern about "Not nearly enough time to load a 1.5GB folder" is anything to worry about. All the tv has to check is the version number of the T-HKMAKUC_1464_2.xml file on the thumb drive. I think what's happening is that the TV is comparing your currently installed software version with the version you've downloaded and it's telling you "no new update is available" because the latest version is already installed.

Anyone with an Oppo 203 having subpar picture from 4k discs on their JU7100 (85" model)? I've ran one real 4k movie through this (Jason Bourne), along with some remastered 4k discs (Everest, Rocky Mountain Express, and some other documentaries I'm forgetting). While they all played back with no issues, the PQ isn't much better than the 1080p movies on my Plex server.

Deep Color is on for the HDMI, and I'm getting the HDR10 icon to pop up as well. The specific input is set to the Movie setting, with a mix of settings from this thread. Both devices are on the latest public firmware. I've spent a bit of time switching around the output settings on the Oppo, with little benefit. I'm nowhere close to an AV expert though, and am open to any suggestions.

Thanks. I don't think I ever properly unzipped the software folder. I just double clicked on it with windows 10 and the image folder popped up and I went from there. I think it would work as I had it. See below.

I think you are right on. Contact Samsung page shows .2 version. I had only checked the software version from the update page before. So most likely it had already downloaded automatically and was confirming the USB as the current version. Either way I'm good.

Anybody notice any glaring differences or new features?

Where is this HDR icon? I've never seen it appear, but I have seen the changes to the video settings when HDR is played (via Netflix or Amazon from my Roku). Does it only appear with UHD Blu Ray playback?

I'm interested in this also, my Oppo 203 arrives today. I have been reading the 203 owners thread and PQ seems to be overall better with some firmware glitches but not heard from anyone with a JU7100.
Hoping someone will chime in with setup suggestions. AND how great they preform together.

Just re-joining the thread. You guys are going to think I'm nuts, but I bought an LG 65" B6 to replace my JU7100. I had it for about a week and just returned it this evening. It was an amazing set most of the time, but it had serious issues near black. Yes, blacks were perfect, but anything up to about 5% was a mess. The out-of-the-box settings severely crushed blacks (probably because LG is trying to hide the panel's flaws). The deal breaker for me was the vignetting. I had the "black flames" on the right side of my screen that were glaringly obvious on a 4-5% slide, but I was even noticing it in content. Anyway, just a heads up for anyone considering the OLEDs.

Yep, it's a rough life I was actually thinking about the KS9800, but from what I've read over in that thread, even those guys are having issues with flashlighting, blooming, etc. I figure why pay that kind of money when there's still chance I'm going to have to play the panel lottery?

If the JU7100 works for you, keep it until you have to make a decision about 8K 2019/2020. Meantime, save up.
The JU7100, properly calibrated, is a great TV. I personally have no issues with brightness. Anyone viewing the HDR demo materials are awestruck!

Any of you guys have Time Warner cable notice the noise on a lot of the channels? A lot of the movies on EPIX seem to have this, which I guess is just compression artifacts. It's mainly in the shadows and darker areas of the image. Just wondered if this could be related to and HDMI cable or something, or it's just due to the low-quality of the cable?

Only the HDR settings are different.

I actually use wildgators settings for everything and only turn on dynamic contrast for HDR viewing and everything looks great.

But I do have a European JU7000 running 1480.

Thanks Bouncer, appreciate it.

I'll try his latest this w/e...I'm considering purchasing some calibration equipment. I figure I bought this nice 75" panel (at a crazy good price), I might as well get it looking optimal.

I've noticed that on my set, brightness 45 seems to be accurate according to the AVS flashing bars pattern, however 44 actually looks a bit better for content. I have another black pattern, and at 44, I can see a very slight differentiation between 16 an 17 if I stick my nose to the screen and look at the right angle. In reality, I may be crushing just a tiny bit of black, but is seems to make the picture look better (a bit more contrasty), and it also helps to cover up a lot of the compression artifacts evident on cable and streaming sources.

In reality, I may be crushing just a tiny bit of black, but is seems to make the picture look better (a bit more contrasty), and it also helps to cover up a lot of the compression artifacts evident on cable and streaming sources.
My opinion is you go with what looks best to your eye. Someone can drive themself crazy trying to reach "perfection", while missing out on what's perfectly fine. It's most important that you are the one happy with what you see.

Thanks. I don't mind crushing a tiny bit of black if it makes cable look better. TWC really sucks (or maybe all the companies do), but "HD" stuff is noisy and has artifacts all over the place. It's funny how 4K is the big craze now, yet the cable companies are still broadcasting 1080i and 720p.

Service menu

Is anybody able to get into the service menu on the latest firmware? Info->Menu->Mute->Power isn't working for me.

Edit: Oops, nevermind. Mute->1->8->2->Power cause 'Merica.

I have the Oppo. No issues whatsoever. The improvement in PQ is dramatic. Connected it to HDMI1, enabled UHD, set it to auto and that was it. The Oppo knows what to do. Looks much better to me than Amazon with HDR.

I noticed something interesting when displaying near-black window patterns. If I load up a 1% window and have Smart LED set to low, the top and bottom of the screen are very black, while I can see a brighter section running across the middle of the screen where the 1% window is. Switching to the standard or high settings does not show this brighter strip across the screen, but the weird thing is, the 1% window actually shows up brighter.

I can watch this happen when I pause the pattern and the icon in the lower left from my PS4 causes the lower portion of the screen to become brighter. The icon goes away, then the screen dims. After that, there is a difference depending on the Smart LED setting. On low, the screen dims, and I barely see the window. On standard and high, the screen dims, I see the window, but then the window actually brightens slightly. It's as if the 1% level is actually getting boosted just a bit. It's definitely brighter than when I use the low setting. Anyway, not sure if this matters much, but just thought I'd post my observation.
