The firmware is identical from the Korean web site. Many here have used it numerous times without issue.

Yes. Since bringing the JU7100 home in March 2016 the set has automatically downloaded firmware updates only twice: during initial set-up and once when I turned it on after driving all night and sleepily hit OK when it offered the update. Except for those two instances I've always grabbed updates from the Samsung Korean site and installed them manually because they don't appear on the English site and aren't offered through the set until sometimes months later. I haven't had a single problem and haven't read any posts here or elsewhere from owners who've had issues with the JU7000 files from the Korean site.

Are you getting banding from broadcast stations, the native TV apps, or an outside source attached via HDMI?

I am not sure. I am definitely getting banding while watching regular TV on Directv.

It can happen based on the content you are watching. It is usually due to compression from what I've found.

That being said try forcing your DirecTV receiver to 1080i (you can also check 1080p for movies as well). See if it makes a difference.

You can really see the banding if you do things like stream Game of Thrones with HBOGo when you see the grey/dark skies. In that instance it seems to be due to compression.

Thanks everyone for the input regarding the Korean firmware update. I downloaded but haven't installed it yet... My wife keeps telling me if it breaks the TV, I'm SOL on buying a new one... hahaha...

My issue regarding my SONOS set-up is due to SONOS latest firmware. I found a thread on their community board regarding the issue. I'm just happy I'm not the only one.

If any Member had broken their set with a Korean FW update, you would have seen multiple warnings all over the Forums! Been using them for 3 years now without issue except I'm much further ahead then waiting for Samsung to `maybe' upgrade me, and even then, one or two FWs back!

Suggested they hire someone to keep the FWs up to date, but nothing so far. Some are now 5 back!

I just updated a 65" and 75" JU7100 to 1503 from the Korean site and all is well thus far.

This also isn't my first time with the Korean FW.

No such issue on 3 of my sets with 1503.0. 1530 ? Besides, Samsung is in South Korea.

For info, BANDING is a result of 8 bit content....HDR is 10 bit and includes more colors, so you get extra shades in between each "band" that smooths the image out. Compression artifacts typically appear as macroblocking, those moving squares that look like giant ugly patches of pixels.

Anyone know if the built in video player of the JU7100 is superior to any other form of video playback through HDMI? I typically send my mt2s files "play to" style from Windows 7 Pro to the TV instead of playing them back through Power DVD 16.

Using the built in player, and most likely using Play To as well, you don't get HD audio from a Blu Ray rip. Of course, most external players won't play HD audio either. The best option for that is the Nvidia Shield playing though an AVR for audio. My Roku Ultra plays M2TS files fine, but again doesn't support HD audio. It will pass the DTS core audio from a Master Audio track, so they don't require audio transcoding. But anything with TrueHD requires audio transcoding.

If HD audio isn't a concern, you still have the issue of the Samsung DLNA player having no metadata presentation. All you get is the cover image.

HD audio don't do nothing for me, I am outputting 3.5mm from the TV to my Corsair SP2500 PC speaker system.

I am noticing that the built in Netflix app is sharp, but seems to suffer from that rubber banding skipping effect when the camera pans vertical lines, the way they jump across the screen like in jerky succession. When I pause the show and play it again on my new Chromecast ultra, that effect vanishes. This is strange because the Chromecast Ultra is set to a fixed 2160 60p UHD resolution, so motion should look better through the built in app.

Netflix 1.29 PS4 update adds HDR. It's like the Xbone though where it causes the TV to flip max contrast and backlight so you have to manually turn off HDR on the PS4 video output settings to watch non-HDR content correctly.

I have this tv hooked up to a samsung sound bar -- control everything with my direct tv remote. What do I need to do so that when I change the volume "audio out" doesn't appear. I figured it out before, but then changed my direct tv box and have since forgotten.

Thanks

Yes, but...

The JU7100 will go into HDR mode, and it absolutely improves the image. But, it doesn't have the same panel as the SUHD displays, and doesn't equal what they can show. But I have watched some HDR content from Amazon and YouTube using my Roku Ultra, and the JU7100 is capable of a pretty stunning image.

Thanks for the reply. I'll probably try the JU7100 first and then decide. The new Apple TV supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 so I'll consider a new TV at some point that is compatible with those HDR technologies.

My JU 7100 shuts off when switching to other HDMI ports, such as receiver's set up menu, BluRay, and also Anynet+ discovery. I was running a new Denon AVR x1400 without issues. Then I switched to a Yamaha which had preouts so that I could try to run a separate amp. This issue popped up a few days later. I rolled back to the Denon, which hasn't given me issues in the past on this TV or another TV we have. The issue still happens. I'm trying to reset the One connect, but I don't expect it to fix anything. Is this TV dying? I already lost my H7150 to power off issues. This set has randomly shut off at times in the past.

If you are getting random power offs, could possibly be the Wi-Fi card going bad. Search this thread for that issue and the solution (disconnect the Wi-Fi connector to the main logic board).

Go Aggies!

I have two questions for @wildgator25 .

1. I have your calibration settings inputed for the PS4 pro and general TV/movie and everything looks great! However, I have not gone to the service menu and changed the settings. Does it make a big difference changing the settings in the service menu?

2. For the PS4 pro, do you think we are getting the lowest input lag possible with your calibration settings (with uhd color on), even know it is still on game mode? I just got the PRO and the picture looks great with your calibration but I'm not sure if the lag is less (optimal) or not.

Great calibration settings either way! Thank you sir

Thanks for the compliments, glad you are enjoying your picture.

1) It is doubtful you will see much difference by going into the service menu. You can adjust the 2pt White Balance settings to Red Offset -15, Green Offset 4, Blue Offset -21, Red Gain -1, Green Gain 6, Blue Gain 12 and get basically the same result as adjusting in the service menu.

2) Game Mode is going to be the lowest lag you can get. It appears to be pretty low for me.

Uuuugggghhhhhhh!

This TV is so slow on startup. Does anyone have ANYTHING that might help with the cold start changing HDMI inputs? Due to no discreet codes for HDMI4 I have to run a Harmony macro that changes the TV to HDMI3 then HDMI4. The TV takes so long that quite often the process fails because the menus won't load quickly enough. It just gets stuck on HDMI3 and the activity will complete without it getting to HDMI4. I've added huge delays to the activity but it always hangs for different amount of times.

Anyway, if anyone could help that would be appreciated.

One of the issues with the slower startup is that when the TV first turns on, it tries to call home. Depending on network traffic, it will depend on when it gets an OK signal. Try shutting off the Network and see if that helps - no network, can't call home.

Are we ever going to get support for UHD playback from VUDU via the Smart Hub?
