I have: FIOS DVR STB, Xbox One S, Roku Ultra
All connected to: Onkyo TX-NR676 (via good high-speed HDMI cables)
And main HDMI output of the receiver connected to HDMI1 on the one connect mini box.
And of course the long proprietary cable from one connect mini (through the wall) to the Samsung UN75JU7100 (firmware shows 1530; I use CAL-DAY all the time)
Audio is always through speakers connected to receiver and audio is never sent to TV, just the picture.
I don't use HDMI CEC at all.
I use a Logitech harmony 650 to control all the above devices.
Everything was going well, when all of a sudden family members started reporting that:
After they press an activity button like Watch TV, or Watch Roku
- TV/Receiver/STB or Roku turns on as expected.
- audio is heard through speakers connected to receiver, picture also shows up
- they don't use the remote at all.
- after 1 min, screen goes BLACK, audio continues!
I did some troubleshooting, and realized that if I press MENU, the TV showed me the menu and if I selected and clicked on HDMI1, the picture comes back!
This was consistent behavior and I am not sure why this happened.
I thought HDMI cables had gone bad, I bought new HDMI cables from Amazon and from some other vendor and tried a combination of them.
Disconnected one connect cables on both ends, used canned air to clean up all connections.
I then reset TV through the Self-Diagnosis menu and it fixed it.
I am still monitoring to see if this re-occurs.
Just wanted to document this for others and to see if others have seen this issue.
Interesting! So, dilipb, I'm currently experiencing the EXACT same issues. I have an extremely similar setup as well, PS4 - Samsung 4K blu-ray player, and an HTPC. Audio for all three is connected to a receiver, and the PS4/Blu-Ray player connect directly to the OneConnect Mini Box (HTPC transmits video and audio to the receiver via an HDMI cable)
Had the same issue, while watching Netflix through my PS4, the picture randomly vanished after about a minute. Turned off an on a few times and could only keep the picture for a minute or so, so I did a reset through the Support menu. Everything was good for about 1 month.
Then, same thing, picture starts disappearing. I tried switching to the Blu-Ray player, same issue. Eventually I pulled everything out of the one-connect box, turned on the smart TV, and tried just watching it (with the TV's speakers). Worked for about five minutes, but then the app kept crashing (So, no sound, if I was watching Netflix I'd just get a blank black screen).
Somewhat annoyed at that point, as I've taken the receiver, cables, and other components out of the picture and it's STILL crashing. I unplugged the TV while I was out for a day, tuned the TV back on and did ANOTHER reset, and then left it unplugged for another day. Turned the TV back on, plugged back in the Ethernet cord and an Aux cable from the TV to the Aux port on my receiver, and now I at least have the TV working again. Hasn't crashed yet, but it last almost a month last time without screwing up.
I'm good enough with electronics to know these systems are complicated, so I'm ruling out variables now. If the TV by itself plugged into the receiver seems to work for an extended period of time, I'll re-add the PS4 to the One Connect. If that doesn't cause instability, I'll add the HTPC as well. If either of those start causing problems, I'll know they're the culprit. If the SmartTV alone starts crashing again, I'm probably tossing it and starting over with a 6-series TCL television (This Samsung JU7100 has been an absolute goddamn nightmare more or less from day 1, the 3D feature stopped working and after 4 service calls from Samsung and a squarespace claim it's STILL not working. None of the technicians have had the slightest clue how the 3D feature works, they run the internal tests and after it fails to fix anything they throw up their hands and say they don't even know what to adjust (No one has gone into ASM other than to do a more thorough reset).
