So, I've had edge bleed on the ride hand side of the screen. I have windows to the left of my screen. Covering these windows with blinds during the day has virtually eliminated the edge bleed . Maybe it has something to do with the quantum dots magnifying light that hits them? Who knows.

hdr content calibration settings anyone?

when running hdr content (like in one of the new xbox hdr supported games) the calibration is changing automaticly in some settings (backlight 20 contrast 20) but remain the same in others, causing the image to be washed out,
upping the brightness from 45 to 55-60 areas makes it a little bit better but im still missing a decent calibration just for hdr gaming mode (or any hdr content i guess)

anyone has a solution? currently im using rtings calibration for all content types

ps
i have 65js9000 and xbox x (same issue with xbox s)

thanks

thank you for replying, i went over your post which is a very helpful post, but i know 98% of the things you were saying there. my tv is alibrated very well, just the hdr content needs a secondary calibration

for my hdr content im using rtings calibration and just setting backlight and contrast to 100, brightness to 53-55 and enabling high level of dynamic contrast (on lower lever i get a really washed picture)

these settings are giving me the best picture at the moment, i know setting dynamic contrast to high is a big no no, but for some reason its not trashing the hdr content like it trashes all other content

Brightness should NEVER be above 45 for SDR and 46 for HDR. (Defeats the SmartLED function)
Contrast range is usually from 85 to 100, depending on your panel.
HDR automatically sets the 10 Point Grayscale and Color Space, from settings within the ASM.
Only the 2 Point can be calibrated for HDR.

Note: currently we're investigating an issue with the 2 Point for SDR and HDR. Once HDR is calibrated, it's dumping it's values into the SDR. To test, while playing a 4K HDR Video, change Brightness 45 (SDR setting) to 46 (HDR setting). Now, when you shut down the Movie, Brightness should revert to 45. If staying on 46, you have the bug.

Any update on how Xbox One X gaming is on this TV? I'm probably going to pick one up for the holiday since I can also use it for 4K disc and games.

Is a wife going to be using this?
Bought the XBox 1 S for the wife last Christmas to install on her basement system. I used it to set up, and later to do some testing on my upstairs set, but basically collecting dust. She used the 1080 Samsung player instead for her 3D videos - gaming - nada!
This Christmas, picked up a BF priced UBD-K8500 to replace the 1080 P Blu-ray.

I have noticed lately that the HDR of my 65JS9000 is not reverting back to SDR after playing HDR content. Contrast stays maxed out. This never happened before, i believe it may have to do with their latest firmware. Also, I noticed that the HDR now looks washed out in some of the 4k movies, again, I didn't have this problem before. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

I previously posted that there's a bug now in the SEK and JS Systems that there is no longer 2 sets of settings for SDR and HDR. Members are Chatting with Samsung to get a Chat # reference. Check the last several pages of postings on the SEK-3500U Forum. Member named Andy is taking all these Reference #s and giving them to his Samsung contact. Tried in Canada, but the Chat up here sucks, and no reference # was given.

I have also noticed that colors appear to be "washed out" or very desaturated while playing games in HDR on the Xbox One X or S. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the SDR/HDR settings issue though.

SDR\HDR is in regards to there now only being one set of settings, instead of two, for either SDR, or HDR, depending on which set of values you installed last.
Your issue sounds more like UHD HDMI has not been turned On for the Input you're using. or HDMI cable is not adequate for the 4K HDR job at hand.

I came across this article the other day that a customer got a refund because Samsung failed to comply with their evolution kit upgrade promise?

https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1483114260

Wouldn't that entail us JS9500/9000 owners to some sort of compensation?

I was just thinking about this the other day. Seems that a new one could be released that would allow YouTube HDR, HDR10+ and any other missing features. I bought into the whole upgradable connect kit that Samsung does not appear to ever going to upgrade.

Yeah really a new connect easily remedies this, I finally got a response and got one of the most BS replies ever:

Dear ______,

Thank you for contacting Samsung. I have read your email and I understand that you have a Samsung TV with an upgrade option using Evolution Kits. The Evolution Kits are currently not being produced and I can imagine this can be disappointing to you. I sincerely apologize if this has caused any inconvenience to you and would like to help you with all the available information. I would like you to inform you that in 2012 we started the Evolution Kits and they were software and processor updates. And we released an physical upgrades for them in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and a software upgrade in 2016. This covers the 2012 models to the end of the promised upgrade period. Just because we are no longer releasing physical upgrades for them this does not exclude them from App updates and other firmware upgrades.

There was no Evolution Kit released in 2016. It was determined that there were no significant processor improvement that merited customers buying a new evolution Kit. It was announced that all the 2015 Smart hubs would receive a firmware update to update Smart Hub to Smart Hub 2.0 and this would be considered the Evolution Upgrade for the year. The same continued in 2017 as there were no significant Hardware changes; so no physical kit has been released.

I believe the TVs were advertised as future proof but Samsung had disclaimers that we can choose to halt production at any time. Just like Smart Hub apps we could terminate all the streaming functionality on they TVs and there would be no legal ramifications because in the terms and conditions we state that we can terminate it at any time and without notification. I see that you have mentioned about a refund for the TV. I wish I could help you but that option is unavailable.

I know how inconvenient this entire experience would have been for you. Samsung is committed to give you the best customer experience and we assure that we stay transparent in our communication with you.

I hope you understand.

If you have any more questions related to Samsung devices, feel free to contact us. We are available 24/7 to assist you.

If you wish to chat, email or call us for further assistance, please go to the "Contact Us" option available on the right hand side of the E-mail.

Thank you for being a Samsung Customer!

These links should work:

https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1483114260

https://www.google.com/search?q=Cust...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Probably UK experiences above. Most buybacks in US seem to follow a negative BBB posting.

As for me, the only buyback would have to come from Square Trade and I hope it never comes to that.

Samsung as a brand (I do still fear for South Korea though) is off my list for any future purchases and not just their TV's.

Must has the Xbox One X looks pretty good on this TV. I have the 55" version. I usually use movie mode for TV, but when I play the Xbox I only enabled UHD Color on HDMI1(port the Xbox is in) then enable game mode on the TV. Anyone know if there is a away to prevent the changes to the sound Game mode makes? I think my only option might be to leave game mode disabled then disable the picture processing, but the lag still might not be as low as game mode.

This is great, but such is technology. no HDR10+ and now a much better 49" TV for 1/3rd. the original price of this. I do not know why this was so expensive. The new one is less than a Grand and obviously better solely to newer technology. It upsets me. At least the do not put in HDR10+ or Dolby Vision. Actually not a big deal though. 6 years after the interdiction of 4K and little content is available. Let alone with HDR10 and maybe 2 titles with HDR10+. People keep saying it will grow. By the time Blu-Ray was 6 years old their were thousands of titles and it was on the verge of being retired for a newer format. Well the newer format did not seem to catch on. I am not sure I really need the new model because it cannot make use of most of it's features. What do you Guy's think? Would you "upgrade" this if you were not concerned about a Grand or simply not worth it at this point. nonetheless, this Tv calibrated looks very good to this day. Easily hanging with OLED sets. Except for the small amount of light bleed. It is small in comparison to other sets from 2015. Get the new one or not worth it? Or get another brand in fact to be rid of these liars! Thanks

@TriTon464

For my money, this JS9000 is the LAST GREAT Samsung TV.

Of course the "flagship" JS9500 along with all of the 2016-2017 TV's from Samsung are disappointing steps backward.

Like a lot of us, I've now sworn off Samsung as a brand, but I've recently bought some of their Hard Drives (purportedly manufactured by Seagate) and now shopping for SD and see the Samsung brand looking good there.

Can't let disappointment turn into hate as that's most unhealthy.

No hate man. Certainly no one here. We are all in the same boat. I don't even hate Samsung. Just like you. Their Micro SD are one of the best right now. HD not sure but Seagate is good. See we got bonked yet again. Never trust a company that says their product can be upgraded or is future proof. They want you to buy the new product. Phones are the #1 example. I got duped like everyone else. That Panel is good technically for 4 more years. I have the 9800 and it is not as good. The 9000 was good but too overpriced. I think for our bedroom it can stay for now. It is still very good. I would not worry about HDR+ for like 2 years. As it is there is hardly any 4K content if you consider Billions of movies have been made. I would just focus on the picture quality and not the features. I am not saying go buy Vizio. Although any great TV probably will be 4K now anyways. The Samsung looks like a good deal under a Grand until you get screwed. Luckily we have had no problems here after Thousands of hours. Just no upgrade of course. Yeah, it is time for another brand. Maybe in the Future Samsung tries to compete again. I would say Sony for us but the Flagship is too large for the bedroom. Perhaps a LG 55". BTW, that is the darn spell check that does all of that

The Evolution kits were a dumb idea from a business standpoint. Why sell someone a much cheaper kit when you can sell them a new TV? Only the enthusiast would buy the kits for the most part and those same enthusiast would likely buy a new TV if they didn't exist. I don't expect them to ever make another kit.

It appears Samsung wants back in the game, and will be pushing 8K at CES - does this mean another Samsung Super UHD Video Pack with 8K videos in order for us to have something to watch? CES 2018 just around the corner.

If I have a device that defaults to Dolby vision, does the JS9000 just ignore it?

Ignore - it doesn't speak the electronic DV language - only understands HDR, HDR10 and HDR10+. (Last listing only on current and last year's models)

Thanks

I do not think the JS9000 supports 10+ either? My 9800 might. As others said the 9000 is a better picture than the fald 9800. I see why people are losing faith in Samsung right now but maybe 8k coming. Let's be honest though I get like a 60" set. 8k on something that small is kind of useless? Besides if the 9000 has 10,+ I have a more important question. Is the q8c a better picture than the js9000? for the price I might well replace it if it is. I mean the 65" js9000 was 6 grand. I know technology moves on but what the heck. you can pick this thing up for $2,200. Either they got way more advanced or they cut the quality. I do not think hdr+ is a big deal to me. 8k is but maybe not on 60". Not sure what I would do if I want a new tv. This is just in our bedroom. We have a bonafide dedicated home theater on the lower level. Mostly our grand kids use it though. I mainly watch cnn lol. Probably do not need such a good tv anyhow. Actually I do not need the grief of tv shopping either unless you guy's recommended just one model.
