That sounds like a good idea. I just won't have any TV in the living room right now which is kind of an issue since I sold my ZT60 and that's why I was going to replace it soon.

Full array gets you a brighter picture - 1000nits as compared to the 600nits on the 9000 as well as less visual artifacts that come with edge lit displays (blooming / DSE / etc.)
I did see this, it definitely sounds worth it.. It is just that I'm a poor college student, haha. I'm addicted to technology though and definitely want something that wows me after coming from a ZT60.

Would you say the 9500 is better than the ZT60 and would wow me?

The panny zt was an awesome set - if I'm not mistaken it was their last flagship plasma line?

The 4k resolution is a noticeable difference and I believe that it will wow you. Plus when HDR content drops it should bring a lot of nice visuals to the table that the ZT will never be able to do.

I posted some crude photos of my 9500 in action on js9500 owners thread. Check em out it might give you some idea of how the set performs.

The photos were taken of a Netflix stream at 1080p.

Yeah, the ZT60 was the flagship model and still wows me. I wanted a 4K set after seeing the difference though.
This makes perfect sense. I'm going to go check out your visuals in the other thread. Thank you for that. I bet it is only going to make me want that set more over a 9000 now. Ugh, haha.

Hahaha - I can not be held responsible for fueling your tech lust and the subsequent hole that may get burned in your pocket :-)

Haha, I couldn't find the pictures. I went through 20 pages on that thread and couldn't find them .

So it is really worth it to go from a 65" JS8500 to a 65" JS9500 for $2000? I just want something just as good if not better than my ZT60. Preferably better lol..

Yeah, the buyer really wanted it now so I sold it.. I probably shouldn't have.

I notice you have an HU9000. With that new EVO kit will it be just as good as this years JS9000 and JS9500? Another option might be for me to get an HU9000 and get the EVO kit. I just can't stomach paying $5500 for a 65" LED 4K. I didn't even spend close to that on my ZT60, but then again I waited awhile for it to drop in price.

No, the Evo kit wont make the hu9000 as good as the js9000. Too many panel improvements /upgrades for the 2015 model. Unless you go with A FALD set, the blacks will be worse thanks your plasma. You've got major shoes to fill and it won't be cheap. Should have kept the plasma til prices on 2015 models drop more. The person who bought the plasma knew he was robbing you of it, that's why he wanted it do bad.

So if I was between an 8500 and 9000 for the Living Room (65"), would they be pretty similar? The big upgrade is from the 9000 to the 9500, correct?

I have also thought about downgrading the bedroom TV to something like a Vizio since I just watch it at night and when I play games, but I don't know if I should do that or not.

What's the best advice on that? Would it be best to just have one amazing TV and just have some cheap TV in the bedroom and for gaming? I game quite a bit, but definitely watch TV and blu-rays a lot more than that.

Thanks again. I feel kind of sad that I sold off the ZT60 now but that thing was very hot in my small room and I thought these newer TVs were better and cheaper anyways (I was wrong).. but at least there is something better out there. It just comes with a huge price tag compared to what I sold the ZT60 for.

FYI, new software version 1210 just downloaded at 7:15 AM EDST. Very quick update, it will restart the 8500. All appears normal so far after the update.
The 8500 is like having a TESLA....

Efram, where should I look for MLB.TV? Is it an app in the SmartHub? I do get MLB.TV as one of my cable premium stations.

BTW, I tested out your previous posted settings. Was watching Game of Thrones episode 2. In my room's ambiance, your settings although very lifelike did appear to be very dim. Do you watch TV in a totally darkened room with only some rear splash lighting? I suspect that is the case. We have perimeter lighting at night however, during the day, we have daylight infiltration.

What would you suggest I do to brighten up your settings just a tad?

Yes, you need to go to Smart Hub | Featured Apps (I think thats how it's labeled) and then click search and simply type MLB.

As for the settings, all you need to do is increase the backlight slider (NOT brightness slider) a few notches and that will help with the image being a bit dim if there is too much ambient light. The TV tracks well and it will not affect the WB and gamma much. Of course, do not move it to max brightness! LOL

Ok, did a search of APPS as well as looking thru Sports Apps and What's New Apps... Not there at this time. Sorry.
BTW, way off topic... Those YANKS are 2 games out in first place in the AL East... I would NOT have figured on that at all...

The 9000 nets you the future proofing via a full OCB as opposed to the 8500 that only has the OCB mini.

I'd like to ask two questions...

First, since the JS8500 can reach 93% (I believe) of the color spectrum for sources that send 10-bit color, how does Sony's Triluminos technology compare? This is one of Sony's big selling points, and it's something that I'd like to see discussed.

Secondly, and I guess this is just for the fun of it, at this time next year what might be the sales price of the 2015 JS9500? I'm not going to go above $3,500 for the purchase of any TV, so I'm probably day dreaming, but if I knew the 9500 would drop to that price I'd turn all my attention now to my piano practice, waiting for the Wine & Roses.

Thanks for everyone's opinions.

1. QD and Triluminos are the same thing. Just branded differently.

2. If you want a TV now, buy it NOW. If you wait till the JS9500 drops in price, then you will fix your eyes on the next model available and drool over that. Always second guessing yourself. Trust me, been there, done that. Tech is an ever evolving thing and if you area always procrastinating, you will one, never purchase anything or second, never be pleased with your purchase.

Who wants piano lessons when you can enjoy a JS8500 today? Hahahaha Just messing wih you, man. Do what you think is best for you and enjoy whatever you decide to do.

Staying on topic.... to much price talk/questions being discussed in this thread. Can we talk about the js8500 series please?

65js850D has caught my attention since it has a darker bezel. Any owners out there?

The fald set will hold it's value better than the edge sets. Just like sonys 950b has held its price. I don't think the js9500 will ever drop to 3500.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, ERuiz. The reason I had thought about the possibility of buying the 9500 some day is that it's a FALD TV, and I wouldn't have minded spending a little bit more for that kind of technology.

As for color, I think I may be making too big an issue over that. The Samsung does have great color, and once it's seated in my house I'm not going to be comparing it with any other TV.

Now as for my piano lessons...I mean, who wouldn't want to spend 20 minutes a day doing Hanon finger exercises, supplementing them with scales practice? Talk about mind-bending excitement. I'd think that would be a lot more fun than watching my Minnesota Wild playing against the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

65js850D has caught my attention since it has a darker bezel. Any owners out there?

Are they giving them away for free? Discussing prices on the JS8500 sure seems like an on-topic discussion for this thread, unless I am missing something or they are being given away for free, which would render price chatter moot.

As for the darker bezel, I really don't understand what the big fuzz is, over the lighter one. Honestly, being that the bezel is so thin, it's not even a factor. Now if we were talking about Sony-type bezels of 4-5 years ago, then yes, a silver one would stick out like a sore thumb.

Under normal viewing conditions, you barely notice the bezel and once the lights dim, they even look black.

Curious, these TV's don't come with a media stick with HDR demo's on it do they? Or is there somewhere you can download the files? I don't know why I was thinking the 9500 did, or maybe that was just for the store demos. I'd just like to be able to see what HDR looks like on the set for my own enjoyment.

What if the lights don't dim? I very rarely watch in an unlit room. Thing looks shiny in the pictures. This alone would interest me in the 850D.

If the bezel was 3" in width, I could definitely see where a silver one "could" be an issue for some. At .5", the current silver bezel is not a factor, at least for me. And this is coming from a person extremely OCD on little nuisances like these. It's not a distraction at all because the bezel is so thin your vision focuses it out of view. Again, this is my take on it so YMMV.

Are dead/stuck pixels an issue still with the higher end JS series or is that a super rare occurrence now a days?
