I don't want to think the TV has a terrible picture shortly after I get it because I missed something like this in the signal chain. Thanks!
For a Sony Blu Ray player you want the following:
DVD Aspect Ratio: Letter Box
Cinema Conversion Mode: Auto
BD-ROM 1080.24p Output: Auto
YCbCr/RGB: Auto
x.v.Color Output: Auto

Go full auto for any black settings.

This ensures that you're getting the most out of your source material. You want the TV to do all of the processing in one shot.

I've already tried loosening the bottom corner screws with no effect. Should I try all around the perimeter? Unfortunately I'm now outside of the return window from where I bought it from by about 30 days. Is this something that Samsung would recognize and replace under warranty, or is that just never going to happen? It's something I can probably look past and forget about with time as the rest of the TV is awesome... it just bothers me that it's there at all for a TV this price and I'm always getting hung up on the little stuff!

Try the others & let the panel settle for a day or two & see if there is any change.

I guess you could try Samsung & attach photo's & see how you go. If the rest of the panel is good then you run the risk of getting a bad replacement panel etc. Once you notice something, it's pretty hard to un-notice it but if you can live with it & it is only on certain light outputs, live with it or try your luck with Samsung.

Den,

Love your settings so far but hearing that color space should be set to native (from the K8500 thread). Thoughts?

How does the JS8500 compare to the Sony 850c and Sony 900c?

Can only speak for myself, but exchanged a 55x900c for a 65js8500 and feel like it is a significant difference in picture quality (in samsungs favor). You really cannot ignore the edge-lit local dimming in my opinion. Watching blu-ray on the sony and having the bright top and bottom black bars killed it for me.

that would be correct. Color Space should be set to Native for 4K Blu-ray (HDR) content to get the benefits of the expanded color gamut since those titles are mastered with that in mind (Rec. 2020 as opposed to regular HD Rec.709 color space).

Also, I do not know how you've missed the many posts about blue glow in the blacks. There's quite a few. You also haven't seen any posts about gray uniformity but I've seen at least one of those too.

Now, could it be that blue glow as opposed to the normal white/black lcd glow could be due to a blue push in the 10% WB range? The more I think about it this seems like a distinct possibility.
I haven't see anyone posting about blue bleed on a black background other than you. I tried searching and the only posts that came up was yours. Obviously I could be wrong, but like I said to you in a previous post the only "blue bleed" that I know of associated with this tv is the ones in the corners, and that only shows on white or bright backgrounds. You should post up a pic so we can all see what your are talking about, because I am curious.

The 900c mounts very tight to the wall and has exceptional viewing angles because it's an IPS display; other than that the JS8500 and JS850D (Costco/Sams Club model) are much better TVs. The Sony that's a more apt comparison to the JS8500 is the 930c.

8500 is a superior set in many regards. 900C has suffered a recall and shouldn't be on anyone's list.

Denpom?

I read the whole manual and there nothing for hard reset...
Here:

1. From the Menu screen, select Support.
2. Select Self Diagnosis.
3. Select Reset.
4. The TV turns off and on again automatically and displays the Setup screen.
5. The security PIN entry window appears. Enter the security PIN (0000).
6. Then, select Yes.

I think my panel is pretty good, but I do have a blue light bleed on the lower left and right corners and to a lesser extent around the perimeter.

It's really hard to capture in a picture (my attempt is attached but it's not as bad in real life)... it extends vertically a couple of centimeters from the bottom corners and just has the effect of lightening the corners a bit in a vertical line when watching light colored images. What do you all think? My in-laws bought the same TV at the same time and they have the exact same thing, though maybe a little smaller and a little less bright...

Is this the blue corner bleed you all talk about, or is that something much worse? I don't really see blooming, flashlighting, or clouding or other defects. I feel like if i had a tech come out and see what i'm seeing he would be like "come on".... I just don't know if it's bad enough to even try to swap out as I'd hate t end up with something worse. It's hardly noticeable on regular content, but now that I've noticed it I tend to see it more. Perhaps i need to focus on something else.

Thanks in advance!
Hello. Yes, unfortunately that looks like the "blue bleed" problem that is plaguing the 65 inch model. One thing I noticed is that your blue bleed sees to go all the way up the edge? Or is that just an artifact from the camera?

Your blue bleed also seems to start higher up in the corner and does not look like its actually starting in the corner. Correct me if im wrong please? Thanks!

Should this be set for general Viewing or should I have a separate picture mode specifically for UHD bluray?

I don't know if those were the exact words they've used but I'm 100% sure others have posted pictures of this. I just haven't had a chance to seek them out yet. Besides which this whole argument got started because someone posted that they had this and Denpom said it was defective.

i wouldn't advise to use Native with regular content since some colors would be completely off (some like to use it with cartoons, however). if your Custom Color Space is not dialed in, you should leave it on Auto (in theory, it switches to Native automatically once wider color gamut content is detected) but since you're using settings from the 1st post, you have to switch to Native from Custom manually for 4K sources.

Thanks, i think the original picture was/is a little misleading. it's hard to take a picture of it. it really starts at the edge/corner and goes up noticeably on regular content for about an inch and about an 1/8 of an inch wide. attached is another picture with the flash on, though looking at it ou can see there's a faint line going further up but it's usually not noticeable at all (i just noticed it today after i spent a lot of time testing).

Thanks for your input. I don't know if Samsung would do anything about it and i don't want to bother if they're just going to tell me to go pound sand. I also don't know what the likelihood of getting a worse panel is and would i then be stuck with that? My in-laws have the same thing on their set, purchased at the same time from the same internet retailer... makes me wonder.

Hi Everyone,

I just got my Samsung 65" JS8500 from Best Buy last Monday. This was supposed to replace my 55" Sony XBR4 that had major flashlights in the upper corners and clouding issues. Sony replaced the panel twice but ultimately had to settle for the one that had the least issues. Hated it the whole time. All I ever saw when I looked at the tv was the lighting issues. Now I feel like I'm in the same boat with this tv. My husband is in denial so I need your help so I can make a decision as I'm still within the 15 day return window which I would like to then exchange it out since we got a great deal for $1999.99 and two years no interest. I bought it at a brick and mortar Best Buy and I checked store inventory and it says that all the Best Buys won't be getting any in stock until Feb 24. I don't know how that affects the return window for those then. Does the 15 day return window start all over again? I also would have to package it up and borrow a truck to get it to the store. A big pain in the butt. So I want to make sure I'm not crazy like my husband thinks. My panel was manufactured January 2016 and I read on here that some of those have blue bleeding. I believe mine does too on the right and left sides. I will be posting a couple pics and hopefully you guys can give me advice. I didn't realize LEDs had these issues like the LCDs. I'm ready to bring my Sony back upstairs and wait for the OLEDs to come down in price. Here is the first pic of the left side which I think has blue bleed. It is noticeable in light and dark scenes just not on Family Guy. Please advise.

Jo Anne

i only notice it on lighter content, most noticeable on blue and grey backgrounds but definitely on other colors too. once it's a dark color not so much and blacks are perfect.

Tried turning HDMI UHD Color on for the K8500 player and got a no signal screen after the tv restarted. This is a 6 foot 28awg cable. Any idea why this happens? I couldn't get it to turn on from my PC either and that ones using a 22 awg 25 foot cord. Cables too slow or is this something else?

good call and you're not being too critical since it's definitely not normal (65" version of this set has been going through some rough patches for the last 4 months or so but "good" sets do exist).

just to make sure, what are your Backlight, Brightness, Black Tone and Smart LED settings? and what are the sources?

Ok last one I promise! In this pic I see backlight bleed in both upper corners. Anyone else? Should I exchange this for another tv and risk a worse panel? I'm afraid I'm just going to get another January 2016 manufacturing date with the same issues. I knew I should have bought this Black Friday! Darn it.
