Use the Fandangonow app to activate the tv and access the movies on the drive.

No.

Check out my "JS Series Picture Settings General Guide" (scroll down to HDMI UHD Color).

In my setup everything connects to the splitter and one HDMI cable goes to the TV and another HDMI cable goes to the receiver. You could don't need a receiver but could a sound bar instead.

However, you may be able to do a few things to reduce the skipping problem.
  • Try changing what you cable box is sending to the TV. What I mean is that if the cable box is sending Bitstream, try sending PCM or vise-versa. Even try sending stereo instead of 5.1 if the audio skips bother you enough.
  • Reduce the audio delay as much as possible. I think that worked most of the time for me.
  • I seem to recall that unplugging the TV for a couple of minutes and then plugging it back in made the skipping stop for a while. If this does work, try remember if switching inputs brings the the problem back (or if using the TV's apps brings the problem back).
I use ATT uverse and have not had this problem. My cable box is plugged into a yamaha receiver which is then connected to the ARC HDMI output on the TV.

There is an issue with the TV ignoring ARC and outputting sound through the TV speakers - and its inconsistent (and thus maddening).

The anynet CEC functionality plays very poorly with a setup where all the input devices are first plugged into an AV receiver. Once I turned that functionality off - all my sound and control problems (except the ones in my head ) went away.

Guys I am having an issue where subtitles will not work for MKV's streamed over DLNA. The folder, MKV and SRT are all names exactly the same barring the extension, and I am sure last time I tried a month ago it worked fine. Any ideas? I tried it on two separate movies, no joy.

PS: I did a thread search but didn't find a solution.

It sounds as though your solution is very similar to mine except you're using your receiver as the HDMI splitter.

As to ARC being ignored ... I wonder if you even need to use the ARC channel except for the internal apps. I use the SP/DIF output from the TV to send the audio from the internal apps to the receiver. If you feel like puttering, you could try to see if that setup gives you more control over your audio.

Not that I'm aware of, I believe that perk may have been for certain computer monitors but not for the JS8500 series TVs. Here is the official warranty info for the 2015 JS Series 8 sets:

**OFFICIAL** 2015 Samsung 4K SUHD JS8500 Series TV Thread

Wanted to state I watched an episode of Daredevil (season 2 Ep 4 or 5) on Netflix last night with plenty of dark scenes and I experienced no blooming or flashlighting.

Is the UN65JS8500 capable of receiving an HDR signal from an external source through it's HDMI input? (ex. a UHD Blu-ray) Was there a software upgrade that allowed that to happen with its OneConnect box that it came with or does the user need the SEK-3500?

I believe it supports external HDR signals out of the box.

I recall having a similar issue last year when I first got my TV. Also frustrating was not being able to choose which audio track it decided to play. I gave up on DLNA soon thereafter and bought an Nvidia Shield as my secondary HDMI 4k input. KODI isn't perfect, but it does alright.

you can just block the device at the router. or... don't enter the wifi information during setup.

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I have a Netflix enabled BL player plugged into HDMI 1 on the JS8500. When selecting HDMI 1 as the source, and Netflix is being output from the BL player, 3D is working just great while watching Netflix.

You can get 4K HDR via the Samsung UHD Bluray Player K8500. The only app on the player that gives you HDR right now is Amazon. No updates or adapters are necessary. Just ensure that the HDMI cable is rated 2.0/18mbps. I hear the Amazon cables were fine.

I just checked. It was installed earlier today and said it wanted to restart the TV.

Did the power cycle - now on 1455 as well.

After numerous attempts to have "Auto Update - Update Now" to find and install the 1453 version (always told me there no updates), today it found and installed the 1455.

It looks like a lot of us finally got our update today. I just got home from work, fired my set on and it said that an update(1455) was installed.
