The TV will do 4K60 444. So yes you are covered.

4K RVU? and general Genie question

Is the 4k RVU working yet with DirectV for UHD?

When I talked with a DirectV rep, he was saying that I would get the main Genie receiver (not yet 4k), and pair that with my *secondary* TV (not UHD), while if RVU is not yet working, I'd get a 4K Genie Mini for the *primary* TV (yes UHD). Regardless if RVU is working or I need a mini, the control of the system goes to the non-UHD primary receiver in the other room. I do have the Whole Home thing.

My question involves using the receiver in the other room to do all the work. With my current pair of HR24-500s, when I'm (trying to) watch something on the other receiver, the remote is very slow and sticky and uneven. Scanning is much slower, and choppy, so it's very hard to hit the end of the commercial on the nose. It's frustrating. Will this delayed (or ignored if 2 remote presses are close together) processing be a problem with the Genie setup?

Unfortunately, unlike the newer 2016 KS models, the 2015 JS models do not provide an on-screen indicator that you're playing HDR content. However, if you go to your settings, you should see that your backlight and contrast have both been set to max automatically while playing HDR content.

Fight mediocrity: Insist on BD50 discs for all movies longer than 100 minutes, optimized video encodes that fully utilize the available space, lossless audio track, and new masters for catalog titles!

Yes, this TV plays HDR10 content just fine.

It covers about 93% of the DCI P3 Color Space (which is pretty good).

I'm really, REALLY looking forward to more 4K and HDR content to come to the streaming services! I watched a little Red Oaks in HDR last night, then watched the same clip in SDR 1080 from my (older) Fire TV and the difference is noticeable. Not nearly as sharp and the colors/contrast were just ... dull.

I really don't get people who say we shouldn't be able to tell a resolution difference between 1080p and 4K from a certain distance, because even at 11 feet from my 65" JS8500 the difference is apparent. Now maybe the HDR and WCG has something to do with that, but I DO see an improvement.

Yeah I consider HDR10/DV a luxury feature in picture quality. Kinda like driving a Toyota vs. a Lexus. If someone had told me that the video (Landscape Volume 4) on YouTube was HDR, I'd believe it. It was that good.

However, I watched the Great Gatsby in UHD Dolby Vision on my Vizio P-Series with Vudu app. I then paused the movie and watched it on my JS8500 (non-HDR). The difference was clearly evident. The DV version won hands down. The movie is average, but the picture quality in Dolby Vision was awesome.

Maybe because VUDU on the JS8500 doesn't support HDR, like the situation with Netflix, etc. - the set, she be ready; the apps, not so much

You can't view The Great Gatsby in HDR10. It's only available in Dolby Vision on Vudu. So I viewed the non-HDR 4K version on my JS8500.

Netflix HDR Update

Per the engineering team at Samsung, the Netflix External Module Process and SDK updates are planned for a September release.

It depends on the content. OITNB didn't really look significantly better in 4k than it did in 1080p last season, but Narcos was stunning in 4k, and had some of the most breathtaking scenes I've ever seen.

Yes, it was too good of a deal to pass up, no DV though on this TV, but figured it will fill the gap until OLED comes down to the common folks level..

Samsung UHD player on the way, 1 movie ordered and arrived.... DEADPOOL, cannot wait to hear the Atmos on this disc. I JUST WISH my SC-85 from LAST YEAR would support 2.2, so hoping for a firmware update on that, but think I am dreaming at this point, also DTS-X. I am already receiver hunting... AGAIN!

Mine has been taking all day to flip on and off and alternate the "disconnected" and "upgrading, don't disconnect" alerts all day.

It appears that I forgot to change that 'feature' in settings to manually upgrade it myself, but i thought i had. Has anyone experienced strange results with the auto upgrades?

OK here's a fun one...

I've had this TV around 6 months now, and three times it's wanted to do updates, it takes the whole day to turn on and off and alternately not recognize the set top boxes at the mini connector HDMI ports. Initially i did not realize what was going on, so i did unplug or turn the TV off a few times, before the "updating" alert came on.
Now this third all day 'update' I chatted with the Samsung support who suggested we reset the Smart hub and eventually reset the TV itself. (im guessing they don't know why it 'updates' all day either).

Now the fun part... in the middle of setting up the TV again, the Update alert comes on at Step 5, does not recognize the HDMI ports and restarts the TV back to step 4 - select your service provider. I'm now in some sort of Alice in Wonderland loop. Unplugging the TV does not help. The chat guy went ahead and disconnected without saying why.
i am attempting to submit a service request on Samsung's web site. That seems to be stuck in some sort of processing hell the past several minutes now too.

Does this sort of experience sound familiar to anyone else?
(speed tests on my wi-fi are 135 mbs download speed if that matters)

I did once get a "wrong connect box for this TV" error message and the TV restarted itself a couple of times with the same error message, did a factory reset and all is good now.

Great but why so delayed? I'm scared about that we'll not receive Netflix with HDR

The js8500/js8000 has already got the HDR compatibility so far... why Netflix doesn't care about the consumers?

As it turns out... the third tech person I talked with finally discovered that the One Connect mini box is the culprit to my No HDMI signal and Software Updating loop, so they will be sending me a replacement.

That little external connecting box "seems" like good idea, but i had my doubts... one more thing to go wrong on this expensive equipment.

I thought i'd take the opportunity to replace all HDMI cables ... any suggestions? is it overkill to replace them too?

I was told by Samsung engineers that they need to conduct extensive testing on the software packages from the streaming companies before they approve them for release to their devices. Things got complicated when they discovered issues with Netflix HDR titles and the 2016 TVs; those had to be resolved first, and now they're working on software for the 2015 models.

if it wasn't an external box, you'd be getting a service tech sent out to your house instead of them sending a package that YOU can plug in whenever you feel like it. the only difference between being inside the tv or outside is the cable. that's it.

That's what i thought... the second tech was going to send someone to my house. Maybe that's the other point of One Connects, to avoid house calls.
Fingers crossed the new one works.

Are you going to be viewing the set in a totally dark environment?

If not, I would say it wouldn't hurt to take a chance and see if you get a decent panel where 1-4 would be minimal issues.

As far as 5, my opinion is HDR10 is the standard so as long as that is supported you are ok. The margin of difference in PQ between the two is debatable. And if the 2015 sets get a firmware update for dynamic HDR10, the difference will probably be even that much smaller.
