Hi could you please tell me what firmware update you're now running that's causing the problem as I understand there's a new one (1530.1) which can be downloaded on a PC then installed.

I'm on 1521. Where exactly are you finding this firmware? The latest that you can download from the Samsung website is 1510.3. I'm not interested in trying foreign firmwares on my TV. These are often released only in those regions for a reason. They're localized for language and the hardware often differs.

I was getting this randomly on both my 55 and 65 but it's stopped since the 1521 firmware update.

Ok. I'm in UK and my set is on 1520. I guess you're in USA or Canada. I read about the 1530.1 on the official Samsung forum as reported by a member. I could only find it in Dutch/NL website http://www.samsung.com/nl/support/model/UE55JS8000LXXN . I think you're right that they are language + area specific, but they roll out these updates by area so it's possibly an indication that an update for other locations is in the pipeline. You never know, it might help with your problem. In answer to your original question, my Amazon app works very well as do all others I use.

Experiencing the same on occasion. HTPC to HDMI 1. Luckily my setup has audio on a separate HDMI port to a receiver so audio continues to play and I don’t have to stop and completely start over during a movie. Minor blackout isn’t nearly as big of a pain as completely losing everything and getting out of sync.

Yes, and it happens a little more often than I'm comfortable with since anything over once is disturbing. Just out of the blue for no reason at all. Likes to kick into 3D mode once in a while too although not out of the blue but after switching back into standard mode after say watching HDR or a refresh rate change or similar and only from the video card output.

I won't rule out a video card driver causing the 3D mishap but I will for the display turning off and on for a couple seconds since the video card isn't being used when it happens watching cable and no others displays do this so it isn't the STB or cable feed imo. I can't rule out my Denon s720W either since it's always connected but does it in standby passing through.

The black screen happens on HDMI 1 input from my video card and on HDMI 2 input from my STB so it isn't confined to a single type of input or output nor to a specific port. HDMI 2 is not going through the AVR either which further helps eliminate it as the culprit.

So, in reality, I don't know who is to blame nor if it's just a bad mix of components? Furthermore, the panel just flashes to black a couple seconds. It isn't like the power supply turned off and on because I hear no internal switching and if it was a bad signal input from say the AVR, it doesn't remain black screen long enough to throw up the 'signal input missing' screensaver.

This was introduced 2 or 3 firmware updates ago and still exists. I'm on 1521 now still seeing it. No idea if an update was coincidence, the AVR is acting up, the STB is acting up, or panel is developing problems from age but I hope it's not the latter. It isn't growing more frequent and remains a rare nuisance.

Does this TV have any kind of pop up notification alerting when an HDR video is playing? Just trying to verify HDR is working...

It does not. You have to check the picture settings and verify that the brightness and contrast settings are maxed out. If they are then you know you are displaying HDR.

I did one more test - I put Big Buck Bunny [email protected] on a flash drive and I can play it through the UBD-k8500 without a problem. The TV reports resolution as [email protected]

So I'm thinking this is some sort of HDCP 2.2 issue?

I'll also note that I have some HDMI sound issues with my TiVo - I need to unplug and replug in the HDMI cable every time I turn the TV on in order to get sound. I had been blaming the tivo but maybe its the TV or the One Connect Mini.
I'm till troubleshooting my 55JS8500

I got a Roku Ultra. I can set it for 4k HDR @ 30 and it works. If I try to set it at 4K HDR @ 60 I get black screen. The autodetect attempts to use 4k HDR @60.

If I go play an Amazon streaming 4k show (Roku set at 4k HDR @ 30) it does play, but the TV's input says [email protected] No idea if HDR is coming through or not.

Can anyone with a Roku Ultra report whether that highest setting works with their TV set?

I can confirm 4k UHD HDR @ any refresh rate, 23Hz, 24Hz, 25Hz, 60Hz works perfectly on the JS8500 so there's nothing to troubleshoot with the display. I've been using the panel for these and much, much more for years now played from PC or USB stick. The problem originates from the device or app you are handing to the display to deal with. Contact them since they can't output correctly.

I recently sat down to watch Star Wars: Last Jedi and when I started it the entire screen was green and seemed frozen. I restarted my OPPO and attempted to play again and it seemed okay but colors were messed and it was in SDR which I thought was odd. I ejected the disc and put it back in and all the colors were messed up again!

https://imgur.com/a/BAxTo

I then realized this disc is Dolby Vision enabled and checked the settings via the INFO button and it looks like the DV source is being sent!

https://imgur.com/a/9D92h

I restarted the player again and then it started to output properly in HDR.

https://imgur.com/a/pN6kc

Has anyone else with an OPPO experienced this? I hope this isn't a regular occurrence with DV discs!

If I want to watch 4k video, either from my AppleTV 4k or my LG UP870 UHD player, can I pass it through my Onkyo RZ900 receiver via HDMI to the JS8500 one connect box?

Or do I need to connect both directly to the one connect box and get audio via the ARC HDMI connection to my receiver?

well, your RZ900 has 4k passthrough, yeah? so yeah. you can run it through the receiver. just make sure it's set to passthrough in the menu of the receiver.

Well the latest update 1530 has uploaded onto my js8000. I've no idea what improvements have been made however since the Gold Coast Commonwealth games have been on I've fired up the BBC Sports app and there seems to be a vast improvement on the last time I used it (about 6 months ago) it used to be very SD now it seems to be much sharper although still nowhere near as smooth as HD (looks like a slower frame rate). Anyone have any idea what has improved lately? Still no HLG HDR support for youtube/ BBC iplayer.

Quick question but does editing device type for the HDMI source affect the picture in any way?

I think 'PC' is the only one that actually changes the picture. I can't remember exactly what changing to that mode was supposed to accomplish, other than supposedly better compatibility as a PC monitor, but it sure destroys the picture as well as greys out most of the settings. Personally, I use 'Blu-ray'. I'd imagine all the other different choices are for name alternatives to simplify identity when used with a plethora of other devices and none of them change anything to do with the picture.

Brightness 45
Sharpness 20 (preference) * It should be no more than 25% to avoid any artifacts.

Auto Motion Plus: Clear (preference)
Smart LED: Standard
Cinema Black: On
All other dynamic settings are off

Some notes during calibration:
-As I mentioned before, factory settings are pretty good with Delta E’s 4 and below for both grey scale and colors, probably just need to adjust Gamma to -1 to bring it up close to 2.22.
-I adjusted contrast to 100 and brightness to 45 as these are the optimal settings to start calibration from.
-As others have noted earlier, there’s a green push on this set at the expense of red. To achieve proper white balance I had to crank red gain all the way up to level up with green and blue. Then from there, I adjusted the numbers down to make sure there are no white/color clipping. If one is still having problems with white balance using these method, i would suggest bringing contrast setting down as a last solution. (Thankfully, I didn’t have to)
-i haven’t tried the other dynamic settings yet, but I noted that Smart LED helps with clouding problems by dimming the backlight around bright spots of a particular scene. I may probably use this one. Cinema Black also helps, especially with letterbox movies. Black Tones help too, but be careful because you can lose details during darker scenes.
Enjoy your settings. I have been having problems getting them to save. I go back in next day and the settings have reset back to default for Movie/Dynamic/standard etc.

Cool Evolution Kit from Samsung in our future ?

Saw this post over on the SEK3500 Thread which might be of interest for any (especially those who postponed for later Evo Kits to be introduced) of the 2013-2015 Samsung 9000 and 8000 (7000?) series TV's which were promised update kits for five years:

"Why Evolution Kits were not released yearly -

The release of each Evolution Kit since launch has allowed for upgrades to TV model features, allowing our consumers to enjoy the latest Samsung Smart TV interfaces and benefits without having to purchase a new TV. Some of the benefits included upgraded features and services, updated Smart Hub, and faster speeds.

The Evolution Kits were launched in years when an innovative performance improvement could be applied to the existing interface. In some years, Evolution Kits were not released because they would not have offered any significant improvement to the TV interface to warrant our consumers purchasing a new Evolution Kit.

In saying this, we are pleased to advise that Samsung Australia will be releasing a 2018 UHD Evolution Kit which will allow for eligible 2013 – 2015 Samsung UHD TVs to be upgraded. ....
HDR-10 is the only 'hardware' involved thing I can think of that could be added, too bad that the ATSC-3 Tuners (4K OTA from Broadcast TV) are still a few years away.

Well, in the UK, the most important, significant, update needed to the JS and earlier models is the ability to play HLG and the 4k BBC iplayer as well as SKY 4k HLG.

Samsung and LG are already selling standalone ATSC 3.0 tuners in South Korean market.

I don't think ATSC 3.0 is a few years away? Wasn't the winter Olympics broadcast in South Korea already using it? In the U.S. we are still implementing ATSC 1.0 but I think broadcast wants to compete with internet streaming and gain back customers cutting the cord. We have a new FCC chairman. It's been said he's in the pocket of the cable industry. Perhaps this is why ATSC 2.0 was bypassed and rolling out ATSC 3.0 asap is paramount? Imo, I'd expect to see it around XMAS. I also doubt a firmware update is going to enable anything but I could be wrong. It would be nice if one did for OTA. If not, we'll need new displays or maybe some funky converter to splice in-line. Or, forget OTA and rely on the STB's cable will provide. I mean politically and economically speaking, isn't this the real goal? UHD, HDR, and audios such as Atmos for TV watching is appealing to me and the sooner... the better imo. Still, if Samsung provides a firmware update, we have a choice. In reality, they'd probably rather we buy new panels. We shall see. P.S. ATSC 3.0 also means 3D.

Sorry if this has been asked before....

When I'm watching 4K movies, close up shots of people walking or just moving around, their faces seemed blurry or hazey(?). It's noticeable but not to the point of being unwatchable. Anyone know how I can make the picture more crisp or clean without the haze on their faces? Sharpness is at 0....
