My TV was replace because of the light bleed from the sides. I called and started the claim process. They asked for pictures of the issue and I sent them. Then they asked for pictures of the bezel where the light bleed was showing to see if there was any damage to it. It took about a week and a half of emails back and forth before they approved the replacement TV. Can you appeal the ruling or have them come out and examine set?

Hope that helps.

So Netflix today announced that their app would no longer work on certain older Samsung TVs. I could not however find any info as to which TVs they’re referring to. Does anyone here happen to know if this TV will be affected?

Kinda panicking right now. Yesterday I hooked up a 4K FireTV stick to my JS8500. Went through the Fire Stick setup and got everything working. Switched off the input the Fire Stick was on and after awhile, I believe when the Fire Stick tried to go to sleep, the JS turned off. Now the tv keeps turning on and off and the standby light is constantly flashing. Per some googling, I took off the back panel and inspected all the capacitors and they all seem fine. I've left it unplugged all night and hoping that when I get home tonight the issue will resolved itself.

I believe Fire stick trying to sleep somehow screwed up the HDMI-CEC control to where it's constantly triggering the tv to turn off. Has anyone here had a similar issue or have any suggestions on things to try? Samsung support was of course useless. Just had me install the latest firmware which didn't help and suggested contacting a technician if the update didn't work.

They are sending someone out tomorrow "doing me a favor". What model did you get as a replacement? Did they ship it to you or did you get it thru a store?

Here are a few more pics I took today. Any idea why there is green at the bottom right corner? Are these similar to what you or others here have seen? Also took some closeups of the screen from different angles showing there is no physical damage. The more info I can have when the technician arrives in the morning would be helpful!

2011 and earlier I think, basically all 4k tvs are safe. There's a hardware limitation with very old sets.

It may be a problem with a remote button getting stuck. That would explain the constant flashing of the IR sensor. Try removing the batteries from all of your remotes to see if the flashing red light at the bottom of the set stops.

OMG! This was totally the issue! The Fire Stick remote was the culprit. Removed the batteries from it and now I have a regularly functioning tv again! Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Just seen this news about some Samsung sets going to stop playing the Netflix app next month, but no details of which models will stop working, we all know about Samsung and their desire to nobble their TVs to get us to everyone to buy new sets every 2-3 years... Of course you can continue to watch using a Roku, but then again Many Roku boxes will also no longer have the Netflix app too.

Sorry, just saw your post after I posted the same above. However, I'm also concerned that certain Roku boxes will also stop working, I don't know if that'll also include NowTV boxes as they're basically stripped down Roku boxes.

As to whether our JS sets will be affected, if not this time I expect it will only be a matter of time.

The guy came out yesterday afternoon. It took him about 2 seconds to state that the screen was going bad and the problems had nothing to do with physical damage. He took some pics and a video and called his office. I had spoken to the girl in the office the day before and given her the basics. She seemed offended they would try to deny my claim and said they are usually pretty easy to deal with. She told him he had to call Square Trade and report everything. He called from my living room. He was pretty direct and detailed, telling the the screen was dark in the middle, overly bright on the sides and had a white shadow on the right side of the screen. He said there was no physical damage at all. I heard the Square Trade rep asking him to send everything to the and that I should hear back from the in 24-48 hours. It has been about 22 now, so we'll see going into a weekend how fast they respond.

How do you like your Q70? Do you know if they would have been open to upgrading to a Q80 or Q90 by paying the difference?

Does anyone know how Best Buy and Smart Guard handle replacements when a tv is deemed unable to be repaired? The light bleed on both of my sets is getting really bad and I’m thinking I should have them look at them.

They approved my claim for a replacement TV today. Offered the Q60 or Q6D, which I believe are the same TV, no? The 6D is sold exclusively by Costco and the Q60 elsewhere, right?

Has anyone had success getting them to cash out rather than taking a replacement? If so, I'd love to hear how that worked!

The nice thing about the Q60/Q6D is that they don't use the one connect box which was a problem I had read because of the cord failing. As for getting cash it is difficult to do. I did on one of my replacements years ago because the replacement that was offered was not the same level of the TV that went bad on me. That was an exception to the rule. The Q6 is equal or better then the JS8500 is what they will argue.

I'm glad that they are going to replace your JS8500. I really liked my JS8500, however the Q series is a step above in my opinion. Good luck and keep us updated.

The replacement I received was the Q7N from the 2018 line up. That has the One connect box (OCB) like the JS8500. The difference between the OCB is the Q7N is the full size one that has the power that goes through the OCB cable to the TV and all source connections are through the OCB as well.

I do like the Q7N better then the JS8500 for sure.

I have not had a problem with the one connect on the JS8500. If I don't get a TV with the one connect, I'll have to cut a big hole to feed all of my wiring through. Right now, I have all components in a closet behind the wall the TV is on and the wires feed through two small holes. All I have going through now is the power cord from the TV and the one connect HDMI one connect cables. Not much room for anything else. I've read where others have gotten better TV's by holding their ground and getting it taken to manual review. Not sure how much of a battle I'll have to fight, but I am not going to accept the first offer. We shall see. Wish me luck.

The only problem I ever had with my one connect box is that from time to time I would get an error message on the screen saying that I had the incorrect one connect box for my TV set. A couple of times I just plugged it and unplugged it a couple of times and the error message went away. A couple of times I did a factory reset to solve the issue. However, this problem has not resurfaced within the last year. I'm assuming that one of the updates took care of this problem.

Sorry to hear that. If you get a chance post up a couple of pics so I can see how bad it is in comparison with my light bleed problem. (actually, as of yet, it's not a problem but more of an annoyance)

Not sure how much of a battle I'll have to fight, but I am not going to accept the first offer. We shall see. Wish me luck.
Yeah the option of Q60/Q6 is crap. I don’t see how that’s considered comparable technology when it’s missing a key element like the OCB.

Could someone direct me to some of the most recent posts of suggested settings, considering there were multiple firmware updates since some of the original settings posts were made (at least based on the searches I did)?

I’ve tried searching, but have had difficulty locating them.

Thanks.

First post on the first page has some. (I use Prme19's movie & standard settings) You should turn ON "HDMI UHD Color" though on any HDMI source that you will be using HDR . At the time of posting them they didn't know the HDMI UHD Color setting needed turned on FYI. Make sure it's turned on!

It really is a shame that there are now more people experiencing the same edge light bleed issues as myself & others. I loved this TV but once it starts to exhibit these issues, it's hard to ignore!

A lot of these sets had it right from the start. I had to exchange my 65 twice to get a decent one and my 55 twice (although once on that one was due to a stuck pixel.)

Yesterday, my Xbox One S did not recognized it as a 4K TV. Now in the Xbox, the 4k option is missing. I wonder, if it's the TV's problem, or the Xbox is causing this issue? Most likely the Xbox, because even on my MU6230 I don't have picture, when I start Forza Horizon 4.

It's a bit crazy that some of the TV's that cost what it did in 2015 had these issues from the start. Thankfully mine was perfect straight out of the box but after 2 years, it started to develop the edge issues & I also had 3 small area's of pink blotches on the screen. Thankfully though, I got a full refund of the purchase price but I did love the TV & it was a shame that it had those issues.

It seems pretty unlikely I’d ever get a full refund at this point considering you can get the Q70 for 60% of what I paid for my sets (and those were Super Bowl sale prices, crazy.). If they did that I could turn around and buy a LG OLED of the same sizes and have leftover.

Trust me, it wasn't an easy process to get the full refund!! It took a month of back & fourth & they offered me a Q6. They kept saying it was of the same specs etc, I said it wasn't because of no 3D & what is going to happen with my investment in extra 3D glasses, all of the 3D movies i've purchased etc etc. I said I should be refunded my full purchase price so I can then go out & choose a replacement TV that will offset the loss of 3D, they finally agreed so I bought a Sony 65" A8F OLED.

Who was your service plan with? Mine are with Best Buy and Smartguard. I know Best Buy you can cash out at the value of whatever TV they deem comparable to upgrade to something else and pay the difference but I have no idea how Smartguard does things.
