EDIT: Oh crap, I JUST saw that the X850C is getting the HDR update... AWESOME! Still, it's pretty tough to say buy a 55" TV over a 70" TV lol. Obviously the X850C (even without HDR) is the better TV though.

And while I love this TV, I would be pretty hard-pressed to recommend a 55" anything over a 70" anything. The M70 is a nice enough TV that I would make the decision based on size. If you were comparing the M70 to the 65" or 75" X850C that'd be a different story.

Well there is also the M70 has no HDR, no 4:4:4 @4k 60HZ, and a 200-300 more price tag. Best buy has the 55X850c for 1499 and Microcenter has the M70 for 1749, which I am certain Best Buy would price match. 200 - 300 is something i can swing but is it justifiable if it lacks those features the sony has? The reason I ask here is because getting a users perspective is IMO the best way to see how they feel about their set compared to a competitor set.

The size trumps all of those things IMO. 15" is way too huge of a difference to just pretend like it doesn't matter.

I have the TDG-BT500A glasses.

My bluetooth works on my TV... (Apple bluetooth keyboard sync's beautifully) but will not sync to a SONY product... sad and pathetic don't you think.

Glasses are probably low powered bluetooth devices, which can only be paired with one device at a time. I would find out how to "release" the glasses so that you are sure they aren't locked into some other device right now.

People have the same issue with the touch remote if they do a factory reset. You can't simply switch a low powered bluetooth device back and forth between devices like regular bluetooth. That's *usually* the problem when people are not able to pair them.

I purchased these glasses NEW from Sony... and I've been on the phone with no (zero) results.

I'm hopping that at some time in the future (TV FW update) they'll start working.

I have a 5 yr warranty on these so I still have time for a replacement.

UPDATE: You peaked my interest and I started to look into it... I found out that you must have a source (3D DVD player running... sending a 3D signal to the TV for it to sync. NO WHERE in the instructions does it mention to have a source (3D player running with a DVD in it) on and connected to the TV.... it only mentions having the TV on and the glasses within 50cm of the TV... Now why didn't SONY mentioned this to me when I called them.

Hopefully, someone out there will try and see if this works... I'm away from home for the next few weeks and can't try it out myself.

Did you JUST buy them now fresh for this TV or did you buy them in the past and used them with a previous TV? (sorry I'm just confused by this post and not sure what the situation is)

I purchased them (glasses) new for this TV about 2weeks after I setup the TV. I've never had 3D glasses for any of my previous TV's.

If you had them paired to the TV and have since done a firmware upgrade or factory reset, then the problem I mentioned is most likely your issue. And Sony support is not wise to this very often. You need to find out how to "reset" the glasses so that they can be freshly paired with a new device. When you do a firmware upgrade or factory reset, sometimes the TV is seen as a new device. Hence, why it won't pair.

The "reset" commands are usually esoteric. Like on the touchpad it requires that you push 3 buttons simultaneously, and watch an LED under the back cover.

And anothing thing... a VERY important thing.. Is that when you "clear" a low powered bluetooth device, the device it was paired with must be 100% unpowered or else it doesn't work. In other words, the TV can't simply be off it must be UNPLUGGED while you do the reset.

EDIT: I searched around and can't find any place that mentions how to reset these glasses. That may mean that's not your issue, it also may mean the documentation just sucks. You have to dig deep to find the reset commands for the touchpad remote. I'm sorry you're having problems. Maybe just return them and buy the Samsung ones, they are way cheaper anyway.

i have the 400a's which are the same model, nomenclature dictates only whether they were free with a TV or purchased separately. I also had trouble getting them paired, i had 3d turned on and was stood right next the the TV, took several attempts but eventually paired ok.

Note though, i paired them without a 3d signal going into the tv it would recognise, i was using my htpc and playing a 3d movie though KODI, you only need 3D turned on you dont have to have a 3d source running.

I had 3D turned "ON" on my OPPO player and the TV on with bluetooth enabled and nothing occurred...three hours of frustration.
Now that I see (through a posting on the Internet) you have to have a 3D source signal going to the TV while syncing the Glasses kind of makes sense... but no one ever mentioned that small technicality. I wish I could test that out this weekend.

Bottom line, the instructions ONLY say to have the TV on with bluetooth enabled to sync to the glasses.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind (pairing and unpairing bluetooth devices) when and if I ever get these 3D glasses to work with my TV.

It's just a very specific thing for low powered bluetooth devices (I think it's called Bluetooth-E?). Things like a game controller or speaker or subwoofer are regular bluetooth devices that can freely be paired and unpaired with things. But the special low powered bluetooth devices like remote controls (some, not all, but the touch remote is one, 3d glasses) can't.

i'm starting to see some edge bloom myself now on my 65 inch model,now i've become aware of it i'm seeing it everywhere. These two pics are from interstellar, they are both taken at the same time but i dropped the media player into windowed mode and dragged the edge of the movie playing into the middle of the screen, this is the darker one of the two. You can clearly see that this TV is washing the image out quite significantly at the edges.

have we all got this or do we think this is a fault?, does it get fixed by the recent firmware update. I read in this thread some people dont think it is a bleed issue but a colour problem as it doesnt show up on completely black screens, did anyone take this up with sony?

wall mounted and a massive pain to dismount, had it two weeks and had to wait 2 weeks to get it so must be recent, mine is the silver 8507 model.

Do I have to do anything in the settings to utilize the Triluminos tech in my x850c? Do I want to? I have a Sony BDP-S5500 connected to it.

Hi, i'm interested to know what peoples opinions are on my DSE effects, mine are more blobby rather than banded but can still be quite distracting. This is worse than my 3 year old samsung 55h6670 but i only what to return it if people think this is particularly bad for the 65 inch model.

pretty sure i have found a way to improve the screen uniformity and reduce blooming, i might be kidding myself but try it. Wack the gamma right up to max and use black adjust and contrast enhancer to bring the brightness back down again, for some reason on my set this gives me a better picture all round without losing anything.

Our sets have full frame dimming... How do you get that to work? I tried various settings for Advanced Contrast and couldn't see it work... But maybe I'm not looking at the right content to see it in action? I was using an opening screen of Ex Machina where there is thin white text on an otherwise full black field.

You don't have to do anything... it just works. Now, if your Sony BD player has Triluminos technology built in, then that might be a different story. In that case you might have to turn off that feature on the BD player. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I went into Currys PCWorld today, I had a look at the Samsung JS8500/JS9000 both looked really nice, but then I saw the 55" and 65" Sony X8509C's. The 65" was playing the 4K Costa Rica JK Video clip. It looked so so good, I was about 3ft away and its clarity and colour reproduction was brilliant.

My initial plan was to save for the JS8500, purely because it supported HDR out the box. I can only fit a 55" tv in my room, the JS8500 is £2099 and the Sony X85C is £1249. I currently own a 3 yr old samsung 1080p £350 TV (directlit).

In your guys opinion do you think I'd be missing out by getting the Sony? Are they both 10 bit panels? Is there a versus list anyone could give me for the TV's comparing them side by side?

Also read on hdtvtest that the js8500 does 365 nits? and read the Sony is getting HDR support, if so what nits can the Sony do and will the Sony support UHD Bluray HDR? ( I watch all my movies on bluray)

Once calibrated I'd imagine the sony and samsung would be close?

Nano crystals and triluminos do similar things too?

The price difference between the JS8500 and the X85C over there is £800? The price difference in the US is $500 USD. You are paying a lot for that curve

The JS8500:
- Gets brighter
- Has local dimming
- Is curved

The X850C:
-Android TV

They are both edge-lit, have WCG support, HDR support, full bandwidth HDMI 2.0 ports, etc...

Both support UHD BD.

The Samsung gets brighter and will have an overall higher effective contrast due to it's local dimming.

The curve has it's "cool" factor but I don't think its necessary, in fact this may sound strange but when I looked at the 55" version of both the JS8500/X850C, the Samsung looked smaller? optical illusion haha

I view most of my blurays in a dark room, so I'd be setting the TV for low light viewing, from the rtings review the Sony has 3800:1 contrast? Which I believe is good. Is the samsungs Local dimming that dramatically better (£800 better, gets brighter for HDR but £800 better?), or only in certain situations?

Knowing the price difference, I'm starting to think I'd be a fool to get the JS8500, based on their small differences and common specifications as stated in your post and below to re-iterate.

I realise this is a thread for the Sony TV in question, however something else that is driving my decision is that I'm literally just £300 away from having the pennies to buy the Sony...

4 Days with my 55X850C, not sure it's staying. I have a BDP S3100 which will play through the set, but the TV remote(s) don't operate the player, and I also have sound out through a Denon AVR 988, which shows up in the IR Blaster set-up, passes the Vol-Up and On-Off tests, but won't respond to the TVs remote(s) for volume control. Also, I think for the Twin Pics, I'm just going to get a Mohu Leaf antenna and be done with it. Any help on the AVR or the BluRay would be appreciated.

Turn on bravia sync and and use HDMI-CEC to control your BD player.

Not sure on your AVR, that is an old one. I have not tried using the blaster. Does the remote slider need to be in a different spot?

Twin Pic is not implemented yet. It is supposed to come in a future update.
