just trying to help the newbies that can only turn a set on

While I take a break from the serious mind challenge threads around here that's all I'm sure you've seen those (probably been there to )

Andy to be honest I'm surprised how trivial the Sony threads are in general here lately was it always like this ( or *most of the the smart people aren't buying Sony anymore ( or at least the X850C ) or just right now ..what gives ?

I think I've posted more than newbies can handle right now to be honest ( I might just link now) and there are no serious discussions here maybe serious enthusiasts are smart and waiting for bug fixes and manufacture process improvement on a new product ( that would be my game plan ).. I know this well :

I spent almost 40yrs in the Automotive/Transportation/Aviation OEM world that's how it works we had a saying never buy or fly or drive brand new product trust me. Usually (*something or some things are not designed or made right or material spec right and have to have rolling changes at best ) like the Boeing 787 electrical panels and li batteries for example (no rolling changes there those birds were grounded )

Cost the carriers and Boeing big money maybe some orders 787 -10 is $297.5 M per noy small money 787-9 is $257.1M and 787-8 is 218.3
you loose orders for 4 of those birds and you are talking WAY over over $1B.when you add in spares and product lifecycle support and MRO
revenue and non Boeing MRO support BIG $$ ..........grounding a new bird beyond a week or so for minor specific mro check is baaad news $$
You can not field validate every product variable that's what it is and I Always try to fly in their birds if it ain't brand new product Boeing is one of best bar none

OTOH, FWICS the X850C is OK maybe pretty decent but maybe not all that after all.
Panel contrast is way short of my Sony did not expect that .........,that counts more than 4K

X850C is weak in the HDMI busines in the TV it can only do 3840x2160/60p (YCbCr4:2:0 8bit) ON TV NO HDR or D3 in that HDMI chip only tiny bit of Sony Make believe maybe (panel maybe cant do it anyway U need 6200-1000 Nit for hdr it only has 350 in 55" OK but no HDR )I don't know about update fix? chip makers usually supply the reference drivers or firmware code that can't be modify much sooooo ...... I think the X900 series may have different chip ..............(don't know )

No 3840x2160/60p PC or any gaming Only [email protected] I think Vizio P can beat that HDMI thing and either way they use not bad Sharp ASV panels every bit as good as X850C probably better, Sharp can make good panels they are in fact about twice as bright than X850C . Viz P has (pixel tuning and FALD) SRSLY lot closer to HDR and D3 than X850 will ever be you know that how did that happen ?don't get me wrong I'm no Viz fanboi just tech spec compre here thats all ......they got lotta problems

I think they are coming to get Sony maybe some others but Sony is the weak link SRSLY <no joke >

Remember OLD HYUNDAI compare to NEW one..... who would of ever thought and I was in the business they snuck up on all us ..Toyota too! WE MADE BANK there though

Don't think for a minute it can't happen the writings on the wall Sony TV is on life support and about to get sold anyway <no joke Andy >

It would seem Sony's getting cheap ......I'm disappointed, I have a Sonny and been buying Sony for 25 years so I got skin in the game probably as much or maybe more than you I don't know ? ,sure more than all the newbie around here

I don't see any compelling reason for X850B since I already have a 2013 Sony with a much better panel than X850B when you set aside 2160P which has no bearing on picture quality unless you put your face up in it . I wanted to consider it though the panel looks to be a deal breaker for me ... and the HDMI . Glad I bought mine when I did Sonys are made and panels are assembled by Foxconn U know they get busy quality can slip mm mm !

Watch out for Vizio or LG they are coming to sell you set someday I saw a 2015 65"LG LCD with quantum dot or whatever SRSLY that thing can make you drool ....it was not cheap 2014 X950 Sonys (or whatever their flagship is didn't have nothing on it LG has more money for R&D also

Maybe when Sony TV subsidiary gets sold soon per the CEO publicly stated business plan.....( look it up ) <no joke this time> Andy its 's going to happen ... Sony inc. wants out of TV and electronics totally keeping game though SRSLY TV and electronics were never more than 20% of Sony's business in recent memory they are big money in (other businesses)
I'll be waiting for your apology..do that ............we can still be friends

P S: Andy no I wasn't preaching I don't care what people buy not my money ..... other people's money doesn't need any help from me to spend it self ☻ tell me what sets you looking at when you send X850C back or just don't want it anymore like all the other sets I can not remember I won't tell anybody scouts honor
I really appreciate your enthusiasm about posting all of this information, but would you mind slowing down a bit or perhaps sending this stuff via PMs to people instead? It's getting really hard to wade through the thread with these walls of text and a lot of it is hard to read/figure out what you're even trying to say. Others can shoot me down if I'm out of line, but I just felt like it needed to be said.

OT -- My 65x850c is on it's way, hoping to get a call today or tomorrow to schedule the final delivery.

75X850C vs 70X850B

I was planning on picking up the 75X850C as it is a perfect fit in my cabinet replacing my old Sony 60XS955 with "dumbo ears". I just saw that BB and others are selling the 70X850B (while they last at just under 3k). Given the great price does anybody have any thought comparing the 2 sets. I have plowed threw the 850B thread which is huge but given the how new the 850C is I don't know if anybody has any thoughts or has seen these side by side. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I don't think there is an easy right answer here. The 70x850b is $3000 right now, and the 75x850c is $4500 right now. As far as one series (850b vs 850c) being night and day different, I'd doubt that. The 850c, being the newer model, will have a newer interface (google). That to me means something and is worth more money. Going from 70->75" also means something to me also. Not sure if there is a marked improvement in picture quality between the two series. I have honestly seen a high quality comparison between the two other than some speculative stuff. I'd imagine that the reality is you will be happy with whatever you get. So the question is is 5" and a newer interface worth $1500- for me it probably is. You get one shot to get a large TV, get a LARGE one.

For myself, I just bought a samsung un65hu8550. I like it but I'm realizing 'bigger is better'. The 50" TV in my bedroom seems rather small now, so the 50" is gonna go to a guest bedroom, the samsung 65" will become my bedroom tv, and I'd like to get at least a 70" in the den- I'll likely get the 75" sony 850c for that reason.

As an added bonus, I use a sonos soundbar. Sony is one of the FEW manufactorers who will pass through dolby 5.1 from an external source (blu-ray player) out from it's optical output to my sonos playbar. Samsung doesnt do it. Sony does- big difference for me.

I have to say that the 75X850C is growing on me, I didn't have many complaints during the 4 hours I spent in front of the TV watching the Blackhawks Vs. Ducks last night, although that could just be eye fatigue. The banding still bothers me, I really hope the 75X940C doesn't have banding.

spot on. direct LED probably makes a difference for the 850C models as far as PQ goes i would imagine. go into your local retailer. when i went to fry's and best buy they had both models on display. granted if they don't offer a cable feed, you'll get stuck watching 4K on it and everything 4K to me looks awesome LOL

i went 850C for the google os, direct led, gaming input, and low motion blur. those were my requirements coming from a plasma. i know i'll never get the same type of picture and motion, but it's close.

The 75x850c which has been shipped, is replacing my 70x850b. So I will be able to provide a direct comparison. Will the direct lit make a difference? Will the new improved engine make a difference? Will the panel itself make a difference? The 70x850b is being replaced because of radial banding which I attribute to the VA panel, which the 75x850c also uses, so we'll see. I anticipate some substantial price drops on the 75x850c, especially when the 75x910c hits the streets. FWIW, the 75x has a shipping weight of 108lbs and the 70x is at 130lbs.

Notice any issues with motion (especially baseball or hand movement)?

Any sound hiccups occurring once maybe every 5 minutes?

My dl speed on wifi is 30+Mbps

Wait. Did you have complaints last night. You said you didn't have many complaints which implies that you had some complaints. The banding sounds like a significant issue for you. How bad is it?

OTIH I thought the JS9000 was more than decent (it drew me in ) and I could see it maybe better than X850C easy peasy no prob but I haven't seen X850C OTOH the panel contrast could be better on X850B and HDMI also . IIRC the JS 8500 was close to the JS9000 and deny it stood out some .Sonys are made by Foxconn U know they get busy quality can slip mm mm !
look at it ?

I'm just pointing out options I'm not preaching ..

On grey screens or grey-blue screens it is bad...I will try for some screen shots later tonight.

Thanks

The biggest difference might be motionflow 240 vs motionflow 960. My biggest issue with the 850b series was the much under powered MF 240. My 850b had motion orbs around objects constantly.

I'm really curious to see this, I'm not experiencing this with the 65", but of course, different panels...

I'm very happy with the image quality. No clouding, good blacks even in low lightning situations, tremendous color...

The only letdown right now is the absence of Netflix and the limited stability of Android TV, but that should get better with time.

What image settings are you using? Rtings or some other calibration?

Have you noticed any banding during fast motion or panning scenes?

Im using something pretty basic right now, I'm pretty ashamed after reading all of you here I did not take the time to calibrate yet, so it's standard with a couple of settings changed, including lowering the brightness.

This isn't twitter venue .......... it's a science forum science can be lengthy.... if U don't have the attention span ... just read shorter posts

OTOH maybe AVS has a Twitter Page you might like https://twitter.com/AVScience

Lastly the reply was not directed to YOU and last time I looked this is a public forum if you don't want to wade through something ..........by all means don't it's really very simple ..........use your scroll wheel ..that's what it's for in case nobody told you

Is there a test to figure out if there's banding or not? I have motionflow off on my 65" and feel things are fine. Maybe I just don't understand what everyone is asking about?

Hello all I got the XBR-65X850C on Sunday at BB after ads broke at Fry's. Great picture but what the hell is going on with the out of sync sound (both lips and other things)? Some channels or movies are way worse than others. Is there a quick fix or do you have to return for another.
Thanks

This was reported earlier in this thread by owners of the 55" model, but I think this is the first mention of a sync problem on the 65". I'm wondering if anyone with the sync problem is sending their signal through an AV receiver that has HDMI automatic lip syncing like my Denon has.

I don't experience it. What's your setup (tv, audio, receivers)? What are you watching? Cable/Sat, Youtube, Netflix? Happens on all?

This sure doesn't seem like a problem that would be a hardware fault in a specific unit so it's hard to imagine that returning it would be a solution. Has anybody called Sony on this? When they get a bunch of calls, they'll take it seriously and go figure out the software magic to fix it…

Here's a review of the 55X850C.

Sometimes I think my brain has a mind of its own.

A new review (http://4k.com/tv/a-review-of-the-son...-smart-led-tv/). Their conclusion is the following:

"To briefly summarize the very few less than ideal aspects of the XBR55X850C, it could definitely do better by also adding in Extended Dynamic Range technology like that found in more expensive and complete Sony 4K TVs. This would lead to a much sharper contrast and consequently better sharpness in darker scenes on the screen, which could definitely use a bit of improvement."

Do some of you guys (who already own this television) experience this issue? Or agree that the darker scenes should have been sharper?

For me, three apps I particularly want it for are:

Netflix
Spotify
Skype

I can't complain yet, as us poor brits still don't have these TVs, despite my pre-order on April 9. Even the biggest London stores don't have then on the shelves (John Lewis, Selfridges). Remarkable really - usually the UK is one of the first for new technology - phones for instance.

Maybe by the time I receive the TV (now ETA for June 11) these apps will be available...

I noticed this problem on my 75X850C as well...I thought it might have been the source material, but it has happened several different times now with my TiVo on more than 1 channel...I think we can thank the mature Android TV platform for this...
