What a shame!
Netflix and Samsung, sort it out and don't let your customers standing in the cold !!!

@p5browne , Whats up man, how are you doing. I am doing some interesting experimentation that I will speak about when I am done but I was looking at this latest calibration and noticed that in your 10 point 50% you have:

50%: 11 / +3 / +14

Is that 11 a plus 11 or minus 11?

You have always made My HU9000 look beautiful. I would kill for a P5Browne calibration on a (TS01) JS9500!

I've read many times that hdr-10 will be introduced this Spring for the second seasons of Daredevil and Marco Polo. We've know for months that it would be preceded by DV. Personally, I will delay viewing both series until the hdr-10 versions are available. Future original programming will premier with both available.

Save the "shock and disappointment" for something a little more important. :-)

Season two looks really good through my K8500. I know it doesn't kick backlight and contrast to 20/100 but the colors and overall PQ do seem enhanced over season one.

You might consider doing your own calibration. It's pretty easy actually and has a bit of a following now over in the HU9000 thread.

Dual posting coming. Calibrated with HU, switched to JS and re-calibrated. Will have both settings in the same posting. All done at one sitting.
Trying to avoid the day after issue, although tonight, will re-check the JS before finalizing the posting. Differences? Yep, especially in the lower %ers. ie: 10% HU: +26 +32 +12 JS: +7 +20 +1

re the 50%, it was +11 New calibration: HU: +18 +14 +18 JS: +9 +6 +12

JS Mod is still definitely better Contrast and Color, especially skin tones. PLUS! I'm addicted to the SUHD Logo!!!

Hey all, wondering if the brain trust can lend some assistance for my issue-I currently have a 75HU8550 with the SEK3500. I run my roku 4, directv dvr and gaming pc through my Yamaha 3050 receiver, which then runs into input 4 on the SEK3500. Everything works fine there, no issues with the equipment switching from activity to activity. I use a Harmony Elite remote to control my system

Picked up the k8500 4k Blu-ray player last week and have one HDMI out running into the Yamaha for audio only and the 2nd HDMI out to input 3 on the SEK3500 for video. When I go from any activity or cold start into the 4k blu ray activity, no issues. TV switches to HDMI 3, Yamaha and BD player do their thing. However, when i want to go from watching a blu-ray to anything else, the TV absolutely refuses to switch back to HDMI 4. The only way to get to HDMI 4 is to hit the "source" button on the original sammy remote and move to HDMI 4.

What am I doing wrong? Is this an SEK3500 quirk or what? Any assistance you could lend would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re those claiming high NIT values - are you using Full Screen or 30% or 5% windows for your testing - because no one watches with only a % of their screen.

The above calibrations for average viewing , full screen came out at 80 Nits for the 100% Pattern.
The highest at full screen was with Cool, Dynamic Contrast on High, Backlight at 20 and Contrast at 100 in the Standard Mode, and that was 395 Nits.

Hey guys,

I have a HU9000 with the SEK3500 and Ive been meaning to try the "hack" to change it to a JS9000. Apart from letting Amazon play in HDR what are other advantages to change it? Will it work for Netflix HDR as well? Just wondering if it is worth it for me.

cheers,

The jury is still out on whether and when Netflix HDR will be available on Samsung TVs and whether it will be available to HU sets with the SEK-3500 or only with some JS mode or maybe only to newer 2016 Samsung sets.

As far as picture is concerned, some prefer the picture in JS mode and others prefer HU mode.

Either way, mucking about in the service menus is risky business and could brick your SEK-3500.

100% full screen pattern, I would think, would give the greatest brightness.
I noted that you're measuring with the Meter placed directly on the screen, versus I use a tripod 10" out. The tripod reading, to me, would be a more realistic test since we don't watch the set with our eye glued to the set. (I also moved the meter almost right up to the screen - 351 max.)

The above calibrations for average viewing , full screen came out at 80 Nits for the 100% Pattern.
The highest at full screen was with Cool, Dynamic Contrast on High, Backlight at 20 and Contrast at 100 in the Standard Mode, and that was 395 Nits.
The high NIT requirement for HDR is never for the whole screen, it's for one or more individual features within the total scene. Therefore, at least to me, it makes sense to measure those smaller areas.

Use at your own risk and don't PM me for help

Whatever you decide, we are not responsible for anything you do to your set. You can "brick" your set up by going into the Advanced Service Menu and changing a setting by mistake or changing something that you not supposed to change so you really need to be very careful. You are following the instructions at your own risk.

That said the instructions are in Post #7954 of this forum.
Please note that you will need the Samsung factory remote or the android app (which I don't know anything about). You also need to set the input to TV in order to get into the ASM after hitting info then factory.

What's Not in the instructions which you Must do before anything else:
1) Before you change the SW Model to JS9000 you need to do the following:
Select Option > MRT Option and see what the Front Color is set to. It should be either U-UHD-H9K if you have a 55HU9000 or U-T-CL-M68 if you have a 65HU9000. Write down what the Front Color is set to before you make any changes.

2) After you change the SW Model to JS9000 you then need to do the following:
Option > MRT Option and change the Front Color to what it was before you changed to JS mode. It should be U-UHD-H9K if you have a 55HU9000 or U-T-CL-M68 if you have a 65HU9000. These seem to work the best but it will depend on what it was set to before you made any changes from HU Mode.

If you are familiar with navigating the Service Menu this should be very easy to do but Remember you follow these instructions at your own risk.

Subwoofer Support, Woofer Type, Woofer Volume, Woofer Scale, PEQ Inx and Amp Model should all match your actual set. (this shows 55HU9000) I'd leave the others alone.

Additionally, check the wifi type and manufacturer listed in the MRT menu before switching. Changing to JS mode will likely cause you to lose wifi until this is corrected.

Poppagene, these instructions seem specific to HU9000. Do these same changes apply to HU8550 owners? TIA

This is the process I followed for a HU6950. They should apply to HU8550, but I don;t have that set to test. In any case make sure that you make note of the initial sound settings and the type of wifi card as these differ by model of HU tv.

# 1 Rule! Photograph, or write down your settings, BEFORE doing any changes. This includes your Movie settings as they will Reset once you enter either of the Service Menus.
# 2 Wifi Vendor on some sets will have to be set back to Single from Combo, other sets returned to QCA. Check what the wifi vendor is before changing anything.
# 3 Do NOT go into ADC or Results! If you turn your set Purple, it's the ADC Results that will have to be reset to 0 0 0 0 0 0 130 130 130 69 69 69
# 4 Menu button out of situations.
# 5 As shown by my calibrations, HU and JS have 2 entirely different calibrations.
# 6 Support Reset, Factory Reset or SRC Resets do NOT put back your original Type, nor Front Panel. Also, the resets don't change SM WBs back either. What you see, is what you get. Same with ADC Results.

We already know this JS Mod needs to be done for Amazon HDR. Netflix right now is a BIG question mark. Since we can't get either in Canada yet: no worries here. Just like the better Contast, Color, and especially the SUHD Logo!

Since you maybe trying to figure out things from the Sound Menu screen, it's the Sub Woofer - many times it gets changed to 0, which causes the tin sound. Replace 0 with 3.

The return button on the "hershey bar" also works to back out safely.

Can someone with a js or hu as js test the netflix "hdr10" test video from netflix?

Mine (hu) seems not to be displaying\reading the data (no contrast\colors), assuming netflix test is ok.

Thanks

Are you still having slow internet speed issues with hu9000 and sek-3500u? I've tearing my hair out trying to figure out why my hu9000 with sek-3500 is only receiving around 15 mbps when I'm feeding around 35 mbps hard wired (tested with a laptop - I have 40 mbps from Centurylink). That speed has been confirmed many times by Samsung remote management but they don't know what the issue is. They can only say it's the IP. I'm getting an authorized Samsung taking a look at it and possibly replacing the main board but I'm not totally confident it will fix the issue. Any similar experiences from other users out there?

DD is only in dv right now, but the test video specifically states hdr10, so in theory, it should work.

Thanks for testing!
