# 2 HU series are still posting updates on other websites. Why do USA Members have to go outside country to get support from Samsung?

# 3 Still an argument as to us changing back to the old OCB and updating FW when it becomes available as a tangible upgrade, versus what is in the SEK-3500U FW updates. The Original OCB with current FW update, in appearance, is much closer looking to the SEK-3500U, than before.
1) It is readily available from Samsung, Best Buy, Amazon, Ebay, Tigerdirect, NewEgg, and a handful of others in the States. In areas where it isn't as widely available the support pages are still up.

2) I see your point but as a test last night I took my SEK-3500u off of my UN55HU8550 and checked for a firmware update, It promptly upgraded to 2340 with zero issues. So yes the ability to download yourself is gone but the firmware update exists just the same. I also contacted Samsung tech support to ask about the latest firmware, support, etc and they confirmed I was on the latest and that my set was fully supported (To be fair though the chat reps will kind of say anything to get a positive review so grain of salt here)

3) See point 2

So Basically your frustration is the inability to download firmware yourself vs the Set looking for it? I can't argue with you that it is strange that the hu series is gone from support but it follows the trend of the F9000. The F9000 was dropped from the site for good when the JS Series/SEK-3500u came out. Granted F9000 owners had way more incentive to upgrade to the SEK-2500 since the original OCB was so limited and have absolutely no reason to ever go back to it.

Still i am not sure why you would go back to the SEK-2500U (Original OCB for HU Series) but you can just use the menu to update firmware to the latest. The TV has not been removed from the firmware queue and the latest is from April so they still fix things.

My support site moved to the HU9000 with the SEK-2500 and then to the JS9000/9500 with the SEK-3500u. I am genuinely curious, what do you need the HU support page for?
I'd go one step further and ask why a Canadian is so hell bent to keep reminding folks to the south that Samsung USA has abandoned their HU customers by claiming they are no longer including that series on their website when in fact they are!

Finding Your HU Model on the US Samsung Website

As long as you know the model number for your TV you can do a search and find it.

For example, a search for @p5browne 's "UN65HU9000" on the US website pulls up the following result:

http://www.samsung.com/us/search/sup...Ntt=un65hu9000

In a similar fashion, a search for his "UN55HU7250" reveals the following:

http://www.samsung.com/us/search/sup...Ntt=un55hu7250

If you click on the the image this will take you to the Product Support page that includes the manuals and firmware upgrades.

Actually, the 1452 update for the SEK 3500 is a Windows EXE file and my Mac won't open it. But, I misspoke! I'm actually on firmware version 1455 (not 1440) on my UN65HU9000/SEK 3500 so I'm beyond 1452??

Is 1455 the latest and greatest? I assume so and I presume firmware version 1322 on the Samsung support page for the HU9000 is for the HU9000 with the original box, and not for sets with SEK 3500?

Finally, firmware version 1460.4 is not for North America yet, but it may be coming cuz it's already showing up on some sets, right? We need a firmware summary post.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look all that great in comparison to, say, Amazon's Man in the High Castle. I'm no expert, but I'm guessing shows/movies filmed in HDR will always look better than post-processed versions. The second season of MP in HDR should look better for this reason.

The other culprit is probably the Shield forcing 4:2:0 color instead of 4:4:4 when set to 4K60—something many owners are hoping will be fixed soon after the big 3.2 update a few weeks ago. Even 4:2:2 color would be better, but the Tegra X1 chip should be capable of all three of these settings since it's a beast (at least in 4K24 like the K8500 player and the Fandango app).
plasmodeus, I watched Season 1 last year without the Shield in 4K. It is good to know that it is available in HDR. I am watching Season 2 in HDR. The backlight and contrast on the SEK change when I am watching in HDR. I haven't been able to watch Prime in HDR because to do so I'll have to go into the service menu and change it to JS. When I first installed the Shield it updated to 3.2. My SEK is on auto update and it also updated to the latest 1460 firmware some time back. So everything looks great!

FW 1460.4 is available in North America. I had auto-update ON and it updated my SEK-3500 to 1460.4 about 10 days ago. There was no need for me to go to the Korean site this time.

For most of us 1455 is the latest for the SEK-3500 but, as mentioned Firmware 1460.4 is for North America but has just started being pushed out.

Your wish is my command. As you have suggested, here is my Firmware Summary post I have maintained since purchasing my HU9000 that includes all the firmware updates installed to my original One Connect Box along with all the subsequent updates once I aquired my SEK-3500 on July 6, 2015.

As you will see just for kicks on a few occasions I have gone back to my original OCB and installed whatever update was available at the time shown in a light grey font.

Cheers!

My main point was, we were VERY privileged to have been able to buy a SEK-3500U!
Several months back, I went searching for the SEK at many of Samsung's various websites, and found very few having it available.
So many HU owners around the world, are still using their HUs, with no SEK upgrade. Let alone being able to do 4K or watch HDR.

Happy to hear this, makado. Honestly, the only thing keeping me from taking the plunge with Marco Polo on the Nvidia Shield is that I have enough to watch already. Friends and co-workers don't help, either, when they're constantly urging me to watch this and that show. Then again, I've been patiently waiting for Netflix to get HDR in some form, so I just may watch MP for that reason alone. While it's great to know that both Netflix and Amazon will be producing more HDR content in the coming years, it's curious that Amazon has yet to release an app for the Shield. When they do, I hope 4K HDR is part of the deal; we're all tired of exclusivity contracts.

I wish there were one HDMI 2.0a device (not a new TV) that did standard HDR-10 for all streaming/downloading services. You still have to pay to watch content on all of them anyway whether it's in HDR or not...do the providers actually want/need our money?! I thought that's what profits and quarterly earnings were all about.

Yes 1455 is the latest firmware available for download for SEK-3500U sets from the US site. 1322 on the US Samsung Support site is for HU9500s with the original ocb only. 1460 is currently only available from Korean site for download but it is slowly being pushed out to US sets (it seems, both mine have it).

Where did you get a 1452 Windows EXE file from? Samsung absolutely does not put firmware updates in executable format, only in zip format, so I am very interested to know where you got it from. I actually just double checked on my MacBook; the files download as a Zip file and depending on how you are setup it may automatically extract it to a folder called image. There are XML files and a text file in that folder as well as an upgrade.msd file but this is the folder (Image) that goes on the usb drive for the TV to read. There are no Windows EXE files.

Check out: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mo...-0813-11000279 as posted in Post #17865 by golar.

I know what you are saying about ZIP files and I have done a firmware update with an Apple Mac that downloaded that file format.

Those may be "Premium HDMI Cables," but they're not "Premium Certified." They should be fine at that length, but heres what I found with some other decent cables that weren't "Premium Certified." The Premium Certified ones I ended up with are 24AWG

edit: I'm also not seeing that brand on the list @Marco Rasero (marco803) posted a couple days ago.

I stand corrected; I did not know European firmware came as an executable package but that is not the correct firmware for our sets anyway. Good thing it didn't actually let you install it US Firmware (which is the firmware you need/want) is always a ZIP.

This has probably been asked before but is there any advantage to unplugging the SEK3500 to do a software update on the TV itself then plugging the SEK3500 back in? I unplugged mine and it says the tv was last updated 7/1/15 and there is an update available.

If you click on the the image this will take you to the Product Support page that includes the manuals and firmware upgrades.

Thanks for the update. Those searches didn't pull up a support page last week so what you have informed us is that the support pages have been restored.

I'd rather not spend anymore of my time on this but in case you missed it, in an earlier post today @p5browne was replying to a member regarding the differences between tuners in the US SEK versus the European SEK model then out of left field he added another paragraph as follows:

Quote:
For `Being a Mistake' , Samsung has not speeded up the return of the HU Series to the Samsung USA website!
Obviously this had nothing to do with the posters question (see attached thumbnail) but had everything to do with a comment made several days ago by @sikclown on July 10th who surmised that perhaps the removal of the HU pages had been the result of some sort of "mistake".

Your all welcome that I was able to determine the HU series are once again available on Samsung USA website.

Yes, I believe the list is outdated, as Monoprice now carries the "tamper-proof, anti-counterfeit label" and "the cables have passed the testing requirements at an HDMI Authorized Testing Center (ATC) and are registered with HDMI Licensing, LLC", as described here (from Oct 2015).

edit: I scanned the label, and lo and behold (see attached)

However, the European .exe is really just an self-extracting rar archive. e.g. unrar on Linux has no problems opening the file. I would assume it's the same on OSX.
