I must say that your Netflix HDR update list is valuable, so I thank you for it.
You're welcome.

You are correct. This forum is not only for US owners but isn't it ironic that @poppagene who lives in Bethesda, Maryland in the United States of America (just to the south of my country of Canada) was the first person on this tread to discover that the European firmware was updated and now supports Netflix HDR. Way to go @poppagene !!!

So hopefully everyone can now view Netflix HDR on their SEK-3500 assuming they are running the latest firmware and that they have a subscription to Netflix's 4 screen UltraHD 4K content so that I can shorten my 'Note' in future.

P.S. I am heading to the states tomorrow to Las Vegas so wish me luck!

Thanks to everyone on this thread for getting the news out! Now that I think of it, it probably would've been easier to disseminate the news if I had kept a list of all the members in the UK, EU, and Australia who had inquired in the various threads about the May/June timeline Samsung had given for Netflix HDR capability. Then I could've fired off PMs to all of them. Hopefully I'll do a better in the future about passing on the info Samsung shares with me.

Thank you poppagene and thank you Musician! Inderdaad I can confirm too that the Netflix apps on the SEK now supports HDR.

I have another question though, the recommended setting which I've found earlier on in this thread when viewing HDR on the sek and HU8550 combo were not as expected. I know that my panel doesn't get as bright as modern panels such as the KS8000 and the Q8, but when viewing SDR the picture quality is amazing in movie mode. It gets brighter than HDR content. I use:

Movie mode
Sharpness 20 (I like that better than 0)
Color 50 (45 seems less exciting with colors)

Dynamic contrast High
Gamma +1
Smart Led High

What am I doing wrong?

Also is it possible to use dynamic mode when viewing HDR content (including UHD Bluray) and for example movie mode when it kicks back to movie mode automatically?

The settings you describe sound pretty much the same as mine (see attached thumbnail). I suspect you haven't done much in the way of reading past posts on this thread or you would have seen that this topic (panel brightness playing HDR) has been discussed to death.

Keep in mind I really don't have the issues you do. Why? Because my expectations are lower. By that I mean I am used to watching movies in a theater where the brightness is nowhere near the peak brightness level of our HU + SEK series. Another reason is because I have always had the brightness level turned down somewhat on the HDMI input my old Blu-ray Player was plugged into when playing movies because I prefer not seeing all my surroundings and white leather furniture being lit up like a Christmas tree since 90% of my movie watching is in a darkened environment. Also, I am aware that HDR by it's very nature is generally not going to appear to be as bright as SDR especially on a 3 year old TV not designed with 1,000 NITS peak brightness in mind. On the other hand, even in a room flanked by floor to ceiling windows I really don't have an issue when viewing HDR content in the daytime with the drapes open.

With that being said, as for your question regarding automatic picture mode switching between Dynamic when watching UHD and having the TV switch to Movie when you are watching SDR -- the answer is no, that is not possible on the SEK-3500. If this is something that appeals to you I suggest that you keep your old Blu-ray Player and use it for watching standard HD Blu-rays and plug it into a different input since each HDMI input can have it's own settings. Though let me preface that by saying Dynamic sucks versus Movie which provides that most 'accurate' picture mode. That has also been covered in depth in this thread and on various sites pertaining to TV calibration.

To get you started in the world of High Dynamic Range here is a link to a great article written by Bill Baggelaar, Senior Vice President of Technology for Colorworks and Post-Production Services at Sony Pictures:

High Dyamic Range explained

As you will see by the comparison pictures included in the article, a movie graded for HDR generally appears darker than SDR as shown by the examples I have included below which is influenced by the directors intent.

Enjoy the article!

I set sharpness 0, brightness 38, use smart led standard, dynamic contrast medium, color space auto, and raise gamma 2 clicks (from 0 to 2) when watching HDR.

I wouldn't recommend the dynamic picture mode. Why not use the same settings you use for watching Netflix HDR through your UBD-K8500? If those work for you, then there shouldn;t be a need to change them for streaming through the SEK-3500.

That's correct, the Netflix HDR settings on the player and now with the SEK (thanks again guys!) are beautiful. Just like I expected HDR to look like. And just like the beautiful Samsung and LG HDR promo videos.

But only when playing discs the same settings make everything duller and dark. In some cases I even have the idea that for certain movies their bluray counterparts look a whole lot better.

Yesterday I've ordered the Planet Earth II UHD disc, because of the raving reviews on this board and elsewhere online. A couple of articles even states that this disc is how the format should be used from beginning to end. So fingers crossed I can tell the same after watching it. Should arrive here in the Netherlands in about a week or so. Unfortunately the UHD version is not available in Holland.

I have a UN 85HU8550 TV with the SEK 3500. I am unable to get HDR content to the TV from either my OPPO UDP-203 or my ROKU Ultra. I have UHD color turned on for each HDMI input and my cables are Premium Certified. Both devices are connected to a Lumagen Radiance Pro then to the TV, but I have also tried connecting them directly to the SEK 3500 bypassing the Lumagen. I get HDR from the Amazon and Netflix apps on the TV. I am just curious if anyone with the same devices is able to get HDR?

Both devices are connected to a Lumagen Radiance Pro then to the TV, but I have also tried connecting them directly to the SEK 3500 bypassing the Lumagen. I get HDR from the Amazon and Netflix apps on the TV. I am just curious if anyone with the same devices is able to get HDR?
I get HDR with picture on movie mode from chromecast ultra, xbox one s and UBD-K8500. I don;t have the oppo and I don;t have a lumagen. all devices go directly to sek-3500 with premium certified monoprice hdmi cables.

Thanks. I will keep looking at settings to see if I have missed something.

Maybe the HDR to SDR conversion is enabled on your Oppo?

What I can't seem to figure out is if my panel (UE55HU7500) with the SEK-3500 can display the wide color gamut color space. Can't find it elsewhere in this thread.

Thanks, but that is not the case. I have the same issue with my Roku Ultra, no HDR. I believe the problem is with the SEK-3500 HDMI inputs. I appreciate all of the responses, but I think my OCB is bad.

Maybe a hard reset or factory reset can solve your problem. Have you tried that?

I have not, but that is on my list of options. It will be a last resort.

Take a picture of your settings and try a reset. Let us know if it helped.
