With Samsung NA sites 2 FWs back, you'd better USB it from Korean site. Re FW # 1500.4

JS9500 sites gone from Samsung USA, leaving the Canadian and Korean sites. (For now)

Edit: It moved location, but still 2 FWs back.

SEK-3500U versus the Original OCB differences, appear to be getting greater.

Edit:
As the new calibration settled in, the differences between the 2 OCBs lessened. In fact, it appears the PQ on the Original OCB is now the best it's ever been from previous FW updates and calibrations. Will spend tonight watching it to confirm.
Addendum: Glad to get back to the SEK. Original OCB still doesn't handle skin tones anywhere close to the SEK. Also duller, and not as detailed.
One note, switching back to the SEK, takes about 2 days to get it's former glory back. Don't know what the Original OCB does to the panel, but it's not nice?
For those still holding off, the SEK makes a very nice upgrade!

Further notes: as I suspected, playing a BD, upconverted by my Samsung K8500, kicked my SEK and panel back to looking great. saving me a day of adjustment.

And a very special commendation goes to Musician for doing a better job than Netflix in alerting subscribers to what's available in HDR on their service.

Hey guys,

So I just got an SEK-3500U from a friend who used to have it on his HU9000 TV and not using it anymore. I plugged it into my HU8550 TV and everything seemed to be fine.

I even tested HDR in PS4 pro and it worked perfectly!
I then noticed that my TV is not able to connect to WIFI network and that this SEK-3500 is still linked to my Friend's tv.

I tried: normal reset, hub reset, samsung service reset. But failed to get it work. I tried to play with the service menu and found some tests there. It said ( Wifi : Failure ).

Is there a way to reset the SEK-3500 or anything else that I can do to fix this issue?

Hey guys,
I want to buy the product but I can not find it in Germany stocks. Seems to be only one company right now, but it is also expensive. Product will not enter in stocks? Does anyone have any information?

Once an SEK has been used, the only setting that doesn't get changed each time the Evo Kit gets reset is the Network settings. So if you haven`t already, you need to go in and enter your connection method and WiFi information found under Menu >> Network >> Network Settings and change the settings accordingly. That is covered in the manual in the section titled Connecting to the Internet beginning on page 10 which also includes a section for troubleshooting issues.

Now that you have hooked up the SEK-3500 to your HU it now operates in a similar manner to the JS series. Here's a link to the manual:

Thank you for your reply.

The problem I have is that my TV is unable to find any wifi networks. I tried with couple of routers and different settings but then when I entered samsung service mode, In the self test section it said "failure" near Wifi section.

could it be a problem with my Evolution kit, is there a way to reset it and make it recognise my TV?

You have to go into your original OCB and get what method is being used for the WiFi in the Service Menu, and change the SEK to this method.
HU9000 is probably using a different WiFi Method.

An SEK must be installed properly, probably in the early posts. Go into your settings w/o the SEK and do a backup. Shut down, unplug wait for power to drain. Connect SEK and peripherals, plug back in power and give a few minutes to start up.

Has anyone had trouble with HDMI devices not coming up on the screen after turning on the tv?

Here's my setup:

HU8550 with SEK3500
HDMI 1: PS4 or Switch
HDMI 2: Xbox One
HDMI 3: Samsung UHD player
HDMI 4: Soundbar with ARC

Instant on is turned off.

There's no rhyme or reason to it... sometimes when I turn on the tv and go to turn on the PS4 or Xbox I just get a black screen. (the UHD player never does it... I think because of the Samsung Anynet+ compatibility where it automatically switches to the HDMI port of the Samsung device when you turn on that device).

If I turn off the tv and turn it on again, the game system will come up on the screen like normal.

Is it some kind of odd handshake issue? I've tried multiple HDMI cables with the same result. It rarely happens... maybe one time out of ten turn ons. Does the tv just need time to warm up at the start? I notice that if I wait to turn on a game console until after the soundbar syncs up and says "ARC" on it, the issue is less likely to occur. As a sidenote, I notice the ARC on the soundbar also doesn't always initialize when I turn on the tv. I've found that if I turn on one of the apps or switch an HDMI channel that it will sometimes not switch to ARC and play sound through the tv instead.

Anyways, I never had this problem before upgrading to the SEK3500, and I just thought I'd check in in case this has the potential to grow into a larger issue down the line.

Thanks!

Now that DV disks are available and more coming, has anyone tried to connect an Oppo or any other DV player to the 3500 HDMI port to see what happens. You never know

Yes, and when I play the LG DV files, the player media info says "HDR Format: Dolby Vision", but the output says "HDR Format: HDR-10"; interestingly, when I play the DV disk of Despicable Me, media info says "HDR Format: HDR-10", and, the output obviously says the same. So maybe the disks have both HDR formats, and it auto-selects depending on your display?

That's correct. Also how does the DV disks PQ look compared to an HDR10 disk on the 3500? Is there any difference? Does the DV disk look better?

I think if Samsung supported DV we would need to go into the SM and see if there was a DV switch to turn on

I was expecting the HDR-10 version of the movie to be embedded in the DV encode on the disks, like they are for the DV demo files; but this doesn't appear to be the case. I would say the PQ is the same as any other UHD HDR-10 animated feature.

I have a UN55HU8550FXZA and a Samsung SEK-3500U/ZA Evolution KIT attached to it. When I have the Evolution KIT attached to my TV and I turn on my 3D glasses my TV says they are connected but my image remains blurry (no 3D). I disconnect the Evolution Kit and 3d works again.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so where you able to solve it?

I'm positive I've seen this exact problem and solution here or on the 8550/9000 Thread.

All I can offer is how to quickly and easily find your answer.

At the top right corner of this (and every AVS) page you will see "Search This Thread" click and a text box drops down. Type 3D into that box and see a chronological (recent to older) list of every post containing 3D.

Do this with both Threads mentioned and you'll find your answer.

Thanks for the advice pilotart. I found two suggestions and tried both. They were to go into service menu and perform a reset there and then do the back up and upgrade process all over again. So now my 3d is working again!

I would hesitate to recommend entering Service Menu. One wrong arrow in there (left or right changes values) will permanently brick your TV.

Sort of like messing in Windows PC's registry except no "re-install Windows" to restore it.

No Warranty support for that situation and often a motherboard or the SEK3500 would need returned for "refurbish" by the Factory.

AVS discourages even discussion of subject on the board, but research and possibly PM a member here who seems knowledgeable (not me) on the subject. Most of us never go there.

Hope I don't have to go there but always good to know there is a fix if needed. And yes I'm not comfortable entering the service menu on my own for the very reason you mention...have plenty of bricks that I'd like to get of of already (real ones btw, lol).

In this case, messing up in the service menu could possibly brick the SEK-3500, but the underlying TV and the original OCB, if your set had one, would be unaffected.

I am not about to risk bricking my SEK. I am getting both my HU8550 w/SEK and KS8000 calibrated in a few weeks time so if I do have an issue with 3D I will have the calibrator do the reset since he will be in the service menu anyways. Guess I better check soon if I have an issue, lol.

ARC Connection Failure

Has anyone lost their ARC connection functionality since the recent update to 1500? Is there a fix to get it working again? It has really made my switching of sources/components through my universal remote, very manual and frustrating!
