Were you saying there's a MU Mod in the KS9800 ? Isn't that sort of going backwards?

No. The KS9800 has a completely different internal setup. (ocb mini is for HDMI connections only)

Updated late last night after the last driveway snow shovel.

Will check before disconnecting to move to my wife's loft.
Great deals on the 65" KS9800 that I couldn't pass up. (New set will just have to wait, not going across town to pick it up in this weather !)

EDIT: FW 1521.0 did NOT fix the SDR/HDR issue. (apparently, some of the KS9800 Members are leaving their FW on 1169, instead of updating to 1209 - updating shuts off HDR on Cal Night and Day, so our sets aren't the only models that Korea messed up.)

Just noticed on the Samsung website that there's an update (version 1520.2) for the SEK3500. Yes, I'm late to the game, but it's good that I can ask you guys here who have already applied this update:

1. Should I go ahead and upgrade, or is it buggy?
2. I saw some recent threads about version 1521 from a Korean site. What's this about and should I need this too?
3. When applying this new update, do I need to save existing settings? How? Use EVO backup feature, or take pics of on screen values?
4. What's included in this update?
5. You guys seeing a big difference after the update?

TV: Samsung 85" UN85HU8550 (TD01) with SEK-3500

Different parts of the globe get different FW updates. The Korean site is for NA updates, as well as it's own. They are NOT interchangeable, and usually have different file names. So get the FW update for your region.

I really thought Samsung would have fixed that SDR/HDR issue with all the pressure you guys put on them. Peter as far as the Cal Night and Day, interesting from what i understand Cal Day and Night were intended as calibrator PMs so that a customer couldn't go in and delete the settings. Really, this came from a good source. I forget now but i'll find it. Maybe they are just not supporting it any more since it's redundant?

Maybe you're thinking of this recent post by Tyler Pruitt to the Spectracal CalMAN 5 Home Theater forum.

Nothing. Nothing at all. So I deleted it.

I also deleted my earlier post trying to help someone who was confused regarding the firmware updates. Quite similar to your post that showed your confusion over updating of the cal-day and cal-night modes in reference to @p5browne 's comment regarding his new TV where he mentioned that "some of the KS9800 Members are leaving their FW on 1169, instead of updating to 1209"... which, by the way, has nothing to do with this thread either.

I will now be taking a break from this thread to spend some time enjoying our early spring weather and the flowers blooming around me.

I think it's Winter here in Northern Ontario, you think?

Foot of snow shoveled yesterday: Note: HU9000 + SEK-3500U is now in the loft above the garage.

I calibrate at night, in a darkened room, so you would think the room environment would not impact the results. But, moving the calibrated set (that was using Gamma -1), into the wife's loft, completely changed the calibration ! For starters, Gamma had to be increased to +2 to be able to calibrate the lower IREs. Plus, add all the other changes in the settings. Completely different set of settings. So, for those with the perfect set of settings, they're only good for the environment the set was calibrated in.

Peter, lol, did you ever see those "celebrity" pro calibrators? They all wear black so not to have any reflections off of their cloths lol! Some of them went so far as to paint the SEK 3500 black. I find the only true 100% way to get around this is to calibrate in a room with no light and use contact meter mode. Otherwise you are going to get some light bleed which will effect the calibration slightly. Not sure why your results were so different maybe the HU9000 is rebelling now that you have a new TV

I have a big patio door like window in my room, but it's facing North. Wife's loft has a smaller window, light green walls, and lots of cathedral /\ white ceiling space, plus faces South.

Will see if things change. Wife `insisted' I calibrate the HU9000 + SEK-3500U during the day, without the blind being in place. Did it with the blind down. Problem is, the external light keeps changing. Keep trying to tell her it `won't' make the set any brighter, but instead will throw off the calibration. Finally got through to her. Will be re-calibrating at night, after she's gone to bed - will see if that gives much better results.

Addendum: calibrated tonight, and set returned to normal settings, including Gamma back to -1.
Wife will complain it's too dark now, now that she's watched the new KS9800 in my room.

hey there everyone, had a couple problems with my tv and thought this would be a good place to ask for assistance. i have a UN78HU9000+SEK3500U now for the past 6 months or so sometimes when i am watching something the screen will go black for a few seconds and then come back. this is not in between scenes it can be in the middle of a scene where people will still be talking. also i believe it was after the last update but i used to always be able to watch my tv at max 20 volume and now some sows are at 30 minimum and some shows i have to put all the way up to 60 to hear them, i have not changed any audio settings for quite some time. has anyone experienced these problems before or have any recommendations what i should do next. the tv is out of warranty now as well

thanks

I have the issue all the time. Some shows I'm at -20, others at -36. Some of the new 4K HDR Videos, I have to keep my fingers on the Audio level through the whole file. Previous comments on the Master List of HDR movies, some like it this way, and like to blow the roof off, others like myself, sorry not into it. (Also, sometimes the wife not to keen either, and I get told to turn it down.)

Have you tried leaving the set unplugged overnight since the last update?

For listening to TV through the built in TV speakers rather than through AVR, I set sound mode to Standard. I then go into Sound Effects and go to equalizer and raise all the frequencies to max. I also set Virtual sound to on and Dialog clarity to on. I am generally able to keep tv volume between 2 and 9 with these settings.
