Thanks for checking. The same version is installed on my TV. HBO Go is working fine on all of my other devices, so it isn't an account issue.

Private Messaging

Forum etiquette would suggest that using the Private Messaging feature is not a substitute for posting questions on a thread after using the Search this Thread feature to see if it has been asked in the past.

I thought I had made it clear to a particular poster but in a two week span he PM’d me 4 times back-to-back with each of my replies getting progressively longer and longer because each time his “quick question(s)” evolves into wanting more and more information. I thought I had heard the last from him when I received his PM on June 28th containing no less than 9 more questions when I told him that if receiving answers was important to him that he should follow my advice above.

Here’s his latest PM to me today...

A quick Search this Thread revealed 50 posts containing the words “dimming zone” with the most recent conversation occurring back in 2016. As a matter of fact it was in response to one of his series of related posts:

Link to Original Post

As far as I recall Samsung never published the number of dimming zones for the HU9000 but perhaps it might have come up in either of the following threads more specific to the HU9000 but since it doesn’t really matter to me it's not something I intend on spending any more time on...

Official Samsung UHD Curved UNxxHU9000 Owners Thread

OFFICIAL Samsung 4k HU8550 and HU9000 thread

I would have ignored his latest PM but this isn’t the first time he has pulled this stunt. He did the same thing to me previously as well as @King Richard and I am getting the sneaky suspicion we are not alone!

Perhaps a single app on a rare occasion but that can usually be remedied by searching the internet for the error code if provided or reviewing the developers website. For example Netflix offers the following webpage...

Netflix crashes or closes

Something you can try which is often mentioned on this thread to fix various problems is as follows:

1) Turn off your TV

2) Unplug your TV

3) Press the power button on your remote

4) wait for the red light on the front of the TV to stop flashing

5) Plug it back in and pray

I read in an earlier post of yours that you were experimenting with side-loading apps not specifically developed for your TV so maybe there is the possibility that has something to do with it. Samsung once changed an authentication server for the movies contained on the Video Packs that caused some to stop working for a time until they implemented a fix.
Good one, still in developer mode. Ill be factory resetting everything, hopefully all will clear. Keep you posted.

I really don't expect devices with older technology (2015 and 2016 that you refer to) to support newer technology and support newer standards. That's like expecting my older car with cruise control to be upgradable to one with adaptive cruise control. The older car technology just doesn't support it. So I bought a new car that does.

Sure it does, but only if you want new features that are only available on the newer TVs. Technology changes that fast. Just look at smartphones, computers, tablets and almost any other device of the digital age. The device you buy today will be obsolete to some extent tomorrow. It's just a matter of how much that obsolescence impacts you that determines when you'll upgrade. We all wish our current devices would be infinitely upgradeable without buying new devices, but that's not life. It's fantasy. The SEK helped us out on this a bit, but that has its finite limitations.

(My last comment on this particular subject...)

Sony has introduced hlg, in its tv of 2015.
It is not acceptable, that a TV (paid 1 or more thousands of euros) become obsolete after only 3 years.

2016 Samsung's can do HLG though the built in apps but I do not believe they are hdmi capable. Alot of updates now are hardware based. (hence why hdr10 was upgraded via hardware in the sek3500).

Any link to proof that Sony has done that? And if so, it apps only or also hdmi inputs? And just because Sony's were capable, doesn't mean that Samsung chips were capable.

Trying to avoid jumping in on this discussion since this is not the first time it has come up.

Start at Post 22949 posted on December 19, 2017 and continue reading every post until you reach Post 23018 posted on December 22, 2017 at which point the conversation had disintegrated into the Original Poster saying that he heard a little birdie claim the SEK-3500 would receive an HLG upgrade but I have never really been one to trust little birdies (unless I have been drinking) — especially when the birdie has no reputable source. 🐦

Subsequent to the posts in the SEK-3500 thread, the Original Poster returned and started a new thread as follows. Read it and weep...

Samsung will NOT support HLG HDR in 2015 and some 2016 sets that support HDR10

Your guess is good as mine. Samsung keeps their changes close to their chests.
After all, they wouldn't let their big bucks paying clientele to actually get what they paid for ! `Keep them in the dark!'

Folks - bought Panasonic UB820 player to go with my SEK 3500 powered 78inch hu9000 series tv.

Reason being is this is OPPO's counterpart with this interesting feature:

"HDR BD the PQ curve can be set in the UB820's "HDR Optimizer" user menu from 500nits - 2000nits so the image rolls off the peak lumens and does not lose the information in the highest brightness. All TVs and projectors would benefit from this unique and exclusive HDR control by managing the peak lumens that BD are mastered in."

As I understand the peak brightness is around 500 lumens for this tv so this could be the best choice as far as hdr viewing?

Comments?

Yep. Heard nothing but great things about the HDR optimizer in the new Panasonic 4k players. Should help alot with the tone mapping.

Hi all; I am trying to debug my motion problem with Netflix. I am getting a herky jerky picture at times when there is higher motion. I am using Musicians settings, Auto Motion Plus set to either smooth or clear. I have Xfinity internet and cable. Comcast internet speed test comes in at 176 mbps download on my wired PC next to my router. My UN65HU9000 SEK-3500 is Ethernet wired thru a 1 Gb/s Ethernet switch that is wired to the router. The Ethernet switch incoming port green light data rate is 1Gb/s. The switch outgoing port to the SEK-3000 is an amber light data rate is at or below 100 Mb/s. I ran a Netfix speed test to their server and it came in at 22 Mb/s. Does anyone know what Ethernet port data rate spec is on the SEK-3500? Netflix recommends 25Mb/s minimum data rate for HD. Any recommendations to fix the problem? Alan

It doesn't matter how much bandwidth you have to your service provider when it comes to streaming. It matters on how much bandwidth there is between your service provider and Netflix. Some providers like Verizon, pay for dedicated bandwidth to Netflix for example.

This assumes that your motion problem is with the stream from Netflix and not internally with the TV.

No motion problems with watching TV thru my set top box. Netflix has minimum data rates that are required to achieve different resolutions. for HD 25 Mb/s is required.

Loss thru the channel will degrade bandwidth
Port Ethernet PHY chips determines max channel bandwidth. ie 100 Mb/s Phy will limit channel bandwidth to 100 Mb/s

Netflix speed test wired thru home network Ethernet port ~ 24 mb/s
Netflix speed test wireless ~19 mb/s
PC xfinity speed test wired thru same home network Ethernet port ~ 120 mb/s
PC xfinity speed test wired thru router port ~ 177 mb/s

Samsung said that the Auto Motion Plus should be off. They also said the screen resolution (size) reduces the overall port bandwidth when measuring it. So my 65 inch screen uses more bandwidth than my small laptop screen hence the different in bandwidth in the speed test comparison. Basically this means I need to increase my internet speed.

Actually it's 5.0 Mbps for HD. See https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306.

The SEK-3500 does NOT have a 1 Gb/s Ethernet port. 100 Mbps only.
