Evolution Kit Model Numbers are Specific to each Country

Just like our TVs, which is identified by the first two characters in the TV's model number (e.g. in North America a similar TV as yours would be denoted as the UN65HU9000)… the last two digits of the SEK-3500 model denote what country it is compatible with so in North America our models are denoted as "ZA" which is different for each group of designated area of countries.

Before jumping in and purchasing @scorpioboy 's Evolution Kit take note that he lives in Canada so he would more than likely be selling an SEK-3500U/ZA which may not be compatice with the UA65HU9000R.

To ensure you purchase the correct model for your TV contact Samsung Support in your country or do a Search this Thread and see if you can find any information.

Note: Although in a few cases guys have had some success using an Evolution Kit designed for another country it may lack certain features or require changing values in the service menus which can brick your SEK-3500.

I was just responding to your earlier post and noticed you just posted this...

This is unfortunate because in order to install the SEK-3500 you would need an original One Connect Box (again developed for TVs in your country) in order to do the installation of the Evo Kit.

Probably not a wise investment!

Monoprice issued a refund but no instructions for their return. RMA status shows "RMA closed" so I guess they dont want their cables back. Stuck with 8 certified cables Im not using. Including colored selects and ultra slims.

@DweibOne , that looks good here for Monoprice.

A lot of mail order company's would expect you to pay return shipping and some would also want to deduct an xx% "restocking fee" and hold your refund until return was complete.

There's cost for them in not only shipping cost, but then sorting, testing and getting them back into stock.

You may have a friend who has a need or use for them and your gifting would strengthen your friendship.

Built in Amazon Prime app no longer displaying HDR even when selecting videos that explicitly state 4K UHD HDR. Same thing on UBD-K8500. Works fine on the Amazon 4K Fire TV

YouTube is also restricting bandwidth right now. Too many people on.

Although the Samsung TV onboard app is currently defaulting to 1280 x 720 (see thumbnail 1), this can be circumvented by pressing the up arrow on the remote while the video is playing (see thumbnail 2), and pressing on the 3 verticle dots and when ‘More’ appears (see thmbnal 3), press HD or 4K which will provide a selection list of other available resolutions (see thumbnail 4).

Now select 2160p 4K if applicable to display the video at 3840 x 2160 (see thumbnail 5).

Note: Just in case guys aren’t aware, the onboard app is not able to display YouTube videos in 4K HDR because the SEK-3500 only supports the VP9 codec. YouTube HDR requires support for the VP9.2 codec which is available on newer devices discussed on these threads like the Chromecast Ultra, the Firestick 4K, and an assortment of other devices.

That doesn't work for Amazon Prime videos.

I have the same problem. I wonder if they are planning on switching to something else from HDR10, I hope not. HDR was the only reason for me to use Amazon prime.

We're well aware of that for a while now. And I'm not referring to 4k youtube viewing here at all. Reference a report from another gentlemen on another thread with different equipment who was saying he no longer was able to post his videos in 1080p. You may still be able to view them at 1080p. He just was unable to post them. I did not investigate further. I tied that report to others worldwide that Netflix and Amazon were borh limiting bandwidth due unprecedented demand with everyone being home using streaming services. And so it seems it applies to the Amazon apps on our Samsung equipment as well.

Hello folks,

I have a UN65HU8550FXZC, bought in April of 2015 and have had absolutely no issues with the set... until last week.

I either had a power spike or a static surge... in either case, it has rendered all of the HDMI ports locked up on my set... they appear to be latched... I know, faulty Intel chipset issue.

I can stream, wirelessly to the set from my laptop or watch Over The Air channels... but the HDMI ports are where I do all of my viewing.

I am quite frustrated at the moment as my extended warranty expired on April 21, 2020.

So, I am wondering, will the SEK-3500 bypass the locked up HDMI ports and allow me to have access to HDMI once again, via this external box?

I've tried calling into Samsung directly, but no one seems to want to answer this question.

I inadvertently bought an SEK-4500, figuring it was an upgrade to the SEK-3500... yeah, I know... silly me.

Can someone provide the Canadian/North American Samsung PN for the SEK-3500 so I can get my former TV repair friends to see if they have an SEK-3500 in their surplus or B-Stock?

Greatly and humbly appreciative!

Owner of a tempermental Samsung UN65HU8550FXZC...

Hadn't heard of that problem. But, you didn"t mention it, but let's try a full reset. Had to do it once a while back for a problem that I just couldn't fix otherwise.

To activate the transfer to a SEK-3500U, an original box is required. (Which many, who sold the old box, found out when they had to do a reset.)
Put out the word in your area, surely some one has one they can loan you.
Secondly, have you tried getting into the Service Menu from the get go and able to do a factory reset on the old box ?

Just make sure the box will work on your set. There's a bit of an argument out there, as to whether to actually call the original box a SEK-2500 or not.

Picked one of these up for a decent price on eBay because I was tired of switching to my custom picture mode whenever I would watch HDR content on my SEK4500. The item was seller refurbished and in good condition with all of the accessories included.

Checked the back of the device before setting it up to make sure it was the SEK-3500/ZA. Followed all of the recommended installation instructions (that were also included with the kit). When I first turned it on, there was a message about This one connect box is not compatible with your TV. Use an evolution kit. After going into the service menu and doing a data sync reset I was greeted with the evolution kit setup that ported over the backup I had created (I have now reset the kit and created multiple backups in attempt to resolve the issue below).

I am now having an issue when the 3500 is connected to my HU8550 with the included one connect cable, the TV will frequently reboot (sometimes right away). Was able to update software to version 1550 over Ethernet connection. Doesn’t appear to be hot and even happens after sitting overnight. I can barely hear the fan when this happens. As soon as I disconnect the SEK3500 TV works fine. This happens even when everything is disconnected from the unit. In the contact Samsung menu TV is listed correctly as HU8550 followed by SEK3500. Verified my panel type which is listed as 55A1UU8EHN (the N at the end is only listed at the end in the SEK service menu, it is 55A1UU8EH in the old service menu). I’m wondering if this is a power related issue, a networking issue (this happens even with Ethernet is disconnected), an issue with the one connect cable that was included, the fan in the SEK3500, or just the board on my HU8550 when a one connect box is connected to it. Looking for recommendations before packing this up and returning it to the seller. Thanks in advance!

@musicman0725 , sorry to hear, have you considered that perhaps the fan isn't kicking on at all?

Thanks I was thinking that could be the issue. It’s extremely quiet, you can hear something but it’s not loud at all.

@galonzo So I can hear the fan spin up if I put my ear up to the device. What’s odd is it won’t restart if it’s in the middle of the initial setup. Only after it copies my backup and setup is complete it become unstable. The seller said he would accept returns but I really just wish the thing worked. Part of me wonders if there is something else going on. I ordered a better surge protector. Right now I’m just using the power strip built into the media cabinet. At least the TV is working and I still have the 4500. I was just excited to finally have native HDR support on that TV.

Note, the correct unit was a 3" sticker on bottom saying it's a SEK-3500U not SEK-3500/ZA. Incorrect unit also was just a white sticker on bottom with a BN #.

Yep, this is the correct unit. Here is a picture of the label. FYI, I can definitely feel air blowing out of the fan and can hear it kicking on. SEK is rebooting the TV and you can hear the capacitors on the TV kick in when it reboots. Possibly an issue with the one connect cable, the SEK itself, or one of the boards on my TV that powers the one connect box. Note: this hasn’t happened when the one connect box is being configured (after doing a reset which I’ve tried multiple times) during the initial setup even if I leave the TV on for awhile which seems odd. Model code is shown as UNHU8550, SEK-3500 under Contact Samsung in the TV settings.

I can now see the correct Model Code. What is the BOM that comes up on the set ?
If you did the Factory Reset on the SEK-3500U, and did the Evolution routine on the TV before installing, it should have gone correctly.
Take the cover off of the SEK, and blow out the cooling system in case of dust build up.

Thanks, BOM is listed as 8550. I sent you a Pm with some screenshots. I appreciate your help.
