I'd stick with the x850b for another year and replace it next year at this same time. If you still want an x940c by that time, you'll get it much cheaper than now and you'll have 2016 models available for you to choose from at a holiday discount as well. CES is around the corner.

I am thinking about pulling the triigger on this tv. I can pick it up for about 3k. Just wondering if it would be wiser to wait till the 2016 model D come out? anyone have any info on this yet? I need the TV by March for a new house install. I dont want to have buyers regret!

Obviously It will be cheaper to get the C now as there will be less of a discount on the 2016 model. Also who knows whats in store for the 2016.

Also how would everyone rate the sound quality of the C? Right now I am using a sony sound bar for my 55 inch bravia 2011. It was a $400 package back in 2011. Would sound quality be comparable? better or worse that the avg sound bar?

I would guess the "D" would be closer to 100% DCI/P3 and maybe brighter for HDR.

As always, you can always keep waiting on the next model and never buy anything. Also, displays models from year to year are almost always an evolution, not a revolution. The next best thing is usually never the next year, so waiting until June to buy a D is not something I would do.

Remember If you keep waiting for the next best you'll never buy anything. Something new is always right around the corner. Why get the 2016 model? The 2017 should be a lot better.

In the beginning I was opposed to the side mount speakers and was very timid on purchasing the 930c. I purchased the 65 900c and had issues from the start with the light bleed and returned it. I took a shot on the hopes that the 930 would grow on me... Well months later I gotta say that I have no problems watching this set with the speakers on the side. And they sound good as well, IMO. Maybe this TV is not meant for some people and definitely would look better in some rooms more than others but I think that if considering a TV of this caliber you should give it a good hard look and listen!

Don't know if D will support Dolby Vision, Near 100% DCI/P3, better Android OS, and maybe they will upgrade the Local Dimming to Local Dimming Pro. Otherwise, I really don't see the point of waiting another year for D

I know, I will be shocked if there is a Dolby Vision set at CES, but if there is, it will be here in my living room!

It's a bummer that would not use the same HDR format. The bad thing about HDR is now 4K is not enough I want HDR.

Since you need the TV by March and the 2016 models won't even be available at retail until June 2016 (and then at only at their highest retail price), you should buy the TV now.

Thank you. Yeah..i am so curious about the 2016 models. At the end of the day, I'm impatient which is not healthy for my bank account. I also was not completely satisfied with everyday viewing of my 850 B (although gaming / 4k look fantastic...everything else from cable (fios) looked not as crisp/bright as i wanted it to be (also note: I never professionally calibrated, so that could be on me).

so yesterday I executed the following:
- Sold my XBR 65" 850B for $1150
- Ordered 940C for $4495 (my friend at Sony got me a family discount)
- Ordered STRDN1060 (Sony Reciver) for $269 (my friend at Sony got me a family discount)

Feel like I got a good deal....

But you're right...2016 sets are looming........

Is that sony avr hdmi 2.0a compliant? If it's not then I believe it becomes almost useless with a 4K hdr player.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will just pick up the C for now and use it for a few months before i install it on the wall and the new house. I am building a recessed cabinet for it now I gotta figure out if I want it to sit flush now. This will be my main day to day TV.

Now I gotta worry about is making my home theater for under 8k. Never owned a projector before. Any tips? I am thinking budget wise $2500 projector, $3000 in wall 5.1 speakers with external sub, $1000 fixed 120 inch screen, $800 Reciever, $700, blu ray player, apple tv, harmony remote, cables.

could use some help from owners help

came across an unexpectedly good deal for this weekend only on a 940c

haven't really done any prep work to see if my existing stand will accommodate this behemoth

as I recall, there are several footprint widths at which the display and speakers can be set upon a stand.

my current stand is 64" wide, 17" deep and 18 " high. can I safely, temporarily set up this set and speakers on a stand this size for a few months till I figure out whether to wall mount, buy new stand, and work out my, still to be bought, 4k audio configuration. Then I can do permanent setup for newly reconfigured ht ( my current setup is 10 years old)

also, despite searches, I haven't been able to find the dimensions for the shopping box. wondering if I can get it home in my suv.

thanks for any guidance you can provide

Not really. I came from a VT50, and have no issues when using standard/smooth on 60hz material and true cinema on 24hz material.

The dimensions (with stand) are 76" x 39" x 12"

BTW, I sent you a PM yesterday.

Can you expand on the "record directly to the hard drive" statement? Are you implying that we possibly have built-in DVR functionality on the 940c or is this something else? Thanks!

Hey guys,

If I buy a Blue ray disk do I want one that is "Mastered in 4K?" I know there is an option in the picture adjustments to click a box to tell the tv that its mastered in 4k. How much better does Mastered in 4K look over standard BR disks?
Thanks

Ok, great. I have a TiVO Bolt and it's 4K compatible, but I don't have too much 4K content to watch at the moment.

Should still keep it turned on?

From my understanding,Mastered in 4K basically means upscaled 1080P and is not equivalent to the true 4k(3840X2160) that you see in the 4k demos(which are shot using a 4k camera or camcorder like the Sony a7R II). Currently, there aren't not a lot of "true 4K" content available.

Oh I know, just wondering if it would look any better if mastered in 4k.
Thanks
