It's been an interesting experience so far with the x940c. Clearly, having native 4K support for Netflix and other apps is a huge plus, as is HDR, but I've noticed a few other items that seem to be a step back.

1. The viewing angle on the 930c seems worse than the 900a.
2. General poor remote response time e.g. volume is slow to respond, press power and there is a 3-6sec delay before the status light changes.
3. Android TV is so bug infested. This is my biggest complaint. I've had to reboot the TV more times then I can remember - remote input stops/slows to a crawl, video but no audio, apps like Netflix stop launching, etc. It's clear from the threads that this is a common "feature" of the Sony Android sets. To Sony's credit, each software update seems to improve more than it breaks, but it's clear that the software still isn't ready for prime time. My new bug is that when I wake up my AppleTV, the Sony switches to the wrong input.

The problems aside, it's still a great 4K set, and I'm happy to have joined the x930x club.
To me, the 930c is like a hot girlfriend. She may have flaws but she is damn fine to look at every time! lol.

lol

Sony did a great Job with the dimming algorithm of this TV.

I was reading that vertical zones are more effective than horizontal zones ,I think the light have a shorter distance to travel with vertical zones ,also the native contrast tremendously help ,other things they did to enhance the PQ is the outer panel.

With the right settings it blows away other edge lit displays specially in a dark environment.

This is now my third x940c thats have a (minor) pixel failure...
Sony won't Exchange the tv anymore, they offer me (another) €1000 discount when i keep this TV,ore they will take back the tv and i get all my money back.
I already had a discount of € 1000 infront when purchasing, plus this offer, and I also had a further €500 off from the cash-back action...
And I almost forgot the 50% discount action on the Sony sub SWF-BR100 that i also get from Sony...
That makes the totall discount that Sony me have offert €2650 !!
The 75x940c wil kost me now...€6349,- !!

That is a great price for an even better tv...

Edit;
This is why they don't exanche anymore,and what they say to me;

"You have too high expectations of this product"

Ok,maybe i do,but what are they thinking...?!?
I know that you never gets the perfect TV/product in your home.
I was already happy with this TV,but now i'am even more satisfied with this tv.... ;-)

I suppose if you press your nose up against the screen in an attempt to find a pixel, any pixel, that's either dead or stuck, you've got a good shot. I think that's what our friend papaleo is doing and why he'll never be satisfied. Nobody here, to the best of my knowledge, has done that and perhaps that's why the satisfaction with these sets is as high as it is. Honestly, I can't blame Sony for their response.

My usual attitude is if I can't see an issue from where I actually watch TV, then it's not an issue.

So I deactivated the RVU client in the 940c and had a mini-Genie (61 client) installed instead. I now can get the 4K offerings from Directv.

Currently there are a number of free 4K documentaries as well as PPVs. The PQ seems excellent.

The installer indicated that the latest news is that Directv should be 'live' with regular 4K channels in March of next year. Currently they have the capacity to launch as many as 50 4K channels.

What is a "mini-Genie (61 client)?"

The mini-Genie is a 4K capable client that works in conjunction with a Direct Genie DVR. All 4K recordings are stored on the Genie DVR, but the Mini-Genie is required to capture the original 4K content.

Ken, I have the Direct Genie DVR I believe the model # is HR44-500 so are you saying I could keep that and get the 4K capable mini - Genie client 61 that will work in conjunction with my HR44? That would be great because I have a lot of movies I haven't yet watched on the HR 44 and don't want to lose them. I thought I would have to get the new HR 54 to do 4K?

Yup, you can do that.

Keep in mind that when Directv begins streaming 4K next year, all you'd need is the HR54 Genie. No client would be necessary. Once that happens, I'll probably ditch the 61 client that's hooked up to my 940c since it would really serve no purpose at that point.

I suppose it's possible that Directv could do the 4K streaming and continue with the 4K PPVs that might still require a client.

We're in uncharted waters.

The mini genie needs to be connected to the 4K tv and the HR 44 would have to be moved to another TV. They work together.

I almost upgraded to the newer genie but after talking to Directv tech support they admitted the newer box is buggy and I should wait till they work out issues but at some point you would want to upgrade just not now.

A whole cluster or line is one thing, but if you look over the whole screen and find 5 or 6 individual pixels out, that would be excessive on your part IMO. Plasma's regularly came with a few stuck or out and it NEVER impacted PQ. Some even got better with age where you could end up with none stuck or out.

I haven't even looked my 930C over for stuck/off pixels closely, because nothing stands out as a problem with normal viewing. Just standing near the screen with a solid color pattern, all is well.

But like I said, I am used to plasma where a "perfect" screen was not always guaranteed, and what imperfections there were could not be seen in use.

For comparison, the 78js9500 only has 24 controllers. Yes 24. Twenty four.

I have absolutely no qualms with the picture quality of this TV (940c), in fact even though it is 15 inches bigger than my Pioneer Kuro Elite 151FD (now in the Master Bedroom) I am seeing a better picture. I never thought I would be saying that as this plasma TV was the top rated plasma of it's day. I would have been happy if it had as good a picture considering the larger screen size. Of course there's also the 4K picture, the much better sounding speakers and access to all the streaming apps.

Actually the new box is the smoothest and most trouble-free Directv DVR I've ever owned.

I have both the HR54 and the mini Genie hooked up to the 940c. There is no need to move the DVR if you don't want to.

Please help!
Also how do you install or add more apps to home screen.
