Does the 930c have true PIP?

Can an owner of the 930/940 tell me if the TV has actual PIP or just side by side? The manual says PIP but it says that for other Sonys and is incorrect. Thanks!

Might not be a long wait for you. I woke up this morning to a firmware update pushed out to my 930C. Just loaded it, but I haven't looked at all to see what changed. Now showing version 5.1.1 Build SVP4KDTV15_UC-user 5.1.1 LMY48E.S195 3.307.

It's P&P. Side-by-side viewing only. The mode is only available when you are on an HDMI input.

That is still not Marshmallow. It will be version 6.0 something.

Maybe it's your download speed. My Netflix 4k is rock solid and looks great.

Once again this morning after going to the tools menu and than back to the TV the picture mode, on it's own it changed to the HDR picture mode. Did this 3 times and finally stopped doing it, pretty much the same thing that happened yesterday. I also had the picture freeze on You Tube but this time the TV did not automatically reboot itself and I also couldn't force it to reboot with the remote as that was also frozen. I had to unplug it and that fixed it. Never a dull moment with this TV.
I've had none of that Mt, but interestingly, last night for the first time in a very long time, the display spontaneously rebooted while watching a 4K Netflix. I can't remember the last time that happened.

Got the update too and I'm wondering if there's any connection between the spontaneous reboot I had last night and the update.

At any rate I downloaded the update but don't have time to install it at this time. This update says it may take 30 minutes (numbers were in red) and IIRC the other updates were generally 20 minutes. So I wonder if this is the big OS update?

Ken, I was thinking that the update to Marshmallow would happen right when the 2016 sets hit the market. I could be wrong. Have not read anything yet about the Marshmallow update being released for the Sony sets. I'll keep my eyes open and see if I can find anything about this.

The updates on my 940c take a long time to complete. I would guess the Marshmallow update will take hours.

I know! This is ridiculous that it's not enabled on the 930/940. I use my $200 Samsung 7500 blu-ray to stream Amazon instead of my $7000 tv.

Sorry guys, no Marshmallow on this go-around. As Nugget had reported on his 930c, it's 5.1.1 on the 940c too.

I'm not sure what this brings to the table.

Didn't 5.1.1 release in fall?

Hey guys, I have the 940C and I remember seeing this problem documented, but I can't find it in this enormous thread. So apologies if it's been answered before.

I have the issue where the TV does a soft power cycle when it's off. And the TV makes a noise every 5 minutes or so as it turns on internally to check something?

I have some Audio Engine speakers and a subwoofer connected to it via a smart outlet that turns them on when the TV turns on. So when the TV does this standby check, I get a big thump from my subwoofer as it's turned off.

I also recently replaced my subwoofer because the electronics failed. I now suspect that this constant power on and off may have killed my subwoofer.

Is there any way to stop this cycling the TV is doing? Or maybe a smart switch that is not so sensitive to be triggered when the TV does it's cycle?

Thanks in advance.

Had my 930C professionally calibrated the other day. Must admit 1080p stuff looks amazing and better than it did before. But anything less than 1080p looks slightly worse. The calibrator said that my 930C was the best edge-lit TV in terms of screen uniformity he had seen and that it was especially better than the edge-lit Samsungs

The setting he came up with are as follows, any comments are appreciated:

Custom
Auto Pic: Off
Light Sensor: Off

Advanced Settings

Brightness: 15 (Can be adjusted without affecting calibration)(I use min)
Contrast: Max
Gamma: 1
Black Level: 48
Black Adjust: Low
Advanced Contrast Enhancer: Medium
Auto Local Dimming: Off
XDR: Off

Colour: 55
Hue: 0
Colour Temp: Expert 1
Advanced Colour Temp: Basic: Max, -1, Max, -1, 0, 1 (No 10 point adjustments needed for colours to fall in to line with industry standard)
Colour Space: sRGB/BT.709

Sharpness: 35
RC: Off
Resolution: Min
Mastered in 4K: Off
RNR: Low
DNR: Low

Motionflow: Off
Smoothness: 3
Clearness: 1
Film Mode: Off

He also set Dynamic Range for all HDMI's to Limited.

Thanks
Craig

I have specific PS4, Wii U and X1 setting adjustments to the above if anyone interested.

TV's: Sony 65Z9D, Panasonic 50ST60. Consoles: Xbox One S, PS4 Pro, Wii U.

Do you own lots of blu-ray movies? I adjust my settings based on movies to reach my perfect settings but I can't win. Right now, I'm really close but very satisfied with my settings.

I mainly watch cable TV here in Australia which has some 1080i HD channels and they look fantastic with these settings. Unfortunately a lot of local TV here is still in 576i which is what looks slightly worse after calibration. Xbox One and PS4 and Blu Ray's look stunning though. Unfortunately it seems as though the only way to get your TV's Grayscale dialed in properly is through professional calibration or buying calibration software and doing it yourself. The settings I had prior to calibration which I did from various information attained on here were 85% on the way to getting it right but not quite.

TV's: Sony 65Z9D, Panasonic 50ST60. Consoles: Xbox One S, PS4 Pro, Wii U.

Use the ones from the Value Electronic Shootout posted by Carlos back in post 1389 both day and night. They're so good, you might not care to get an ISF or THX calibration.

My picture was randomly glitching out (pausing) for a second to two and Verizon said my connection is solid (has been since install) and TiVo said it wasn't their fault either (some channels are fine).

Hoping this update can resolve the issue on certain problem channels.

I latest blu-ray movies are truly stunning. They look 4k to me until I walk up close to the screen, of course. I was playing with the BT.2020 settings about a month ago and I can't go back to sRGB/BT.709 even though there might/will be color inaccuracies.

I dont think you can get 5.1 over 2.0 speakers unless its virtual surround which is still not 5.1, but I know the 930/40 cant do 5.1 on netflix

Yeah fair enough LaserSeaBass. I think this goes back to the reference vs preference as using the BT.2020 colour space will definitely not getting a reference pic, but if you like then awesome.

I used to have 900b and Netflix 5.1 was working with tv speakers even though it was virtual surround sound. With 930c even virtual 5.1 is not possible through Netflix it seems. Does blu ray disc output virtual 5.1 through tv speakers? Will check it when i have time
