Been off the radar for a few days. Got a 940C after swearing I wouldn't buy a set with those large speakers, but.......Saving money does a lot to change ones mind.

I am coming from an 70" Elite and I have to say this was definitely a worth while upgrade. The more I play with it the better it gets and honestly I don't even notice the speakers. The picture is clearer with better color, definitely better contrast. I have not calibrated the black level with a test disk, but so far it is about the same with better shadow detail. Now don't get me wrong it does not blow away the Elite, but I believe it is a better TV. I have to play with the settings some more and view more discs.

I just hooked up my TiVo to a very small and older (2 years old, 26") tv to compare OTA picture with this tv. The x940c does have a better picture than that small tv, just not as good as the other 2015 TVs I tried. So, in a way, that makes me feel better. The color and motion on this tv are a lot better than the other TVs. And the vertical banding was horrible on those as well. The 75x850c was really bad, and it seems a lot of people had banding problems even on replacements. I am a very picky person though. My teenagers didn't care or notice the problems!

How would you say the black levels and dimming compare between the two?

I noticed on scenes like blu ray loading menus (ex: the spinning disc in the center on a black screen) the blacks would be pretty gray on the 930D. On a JS9500 and EF9500, it's complete black. And also letterbox black bar performance?

I'm used to them sometimes lighting up on the JS9500, but the 8 vertical zone count on the 940C means a full zone can fit inside of the black bars so they should be pretty black.
They will be as black as LCD is capable of you will be allot happier than any of the others you had for sure.

The 940c is 1000 times better on this front for sure than the 930d

I like mine so far.

Viper
Glad to hear it's alot better than the 930d. I was not really impressed with its black levels.

More interested on how black it gets compared to the js9500 which actually shuts backlights off. Like how black would you say it gets on the intro to mad max in this screen shot? 930D is somewhat gray, whereas the js9500 turns backlight complete off and gets like oled.

I really doubt if JS9500 is better than the X940C despite having more dimming zones. I have been to BB many times to compare the JS9500, the OLED and the X940C. The OLED has the best blacks(but the X940C and the JS9500 are close enough with the dimming on) but in terms of QC,accuracy of the color, motion processing, the X940C for me is still hands down the best overall TV in the market. And at $4500~$5000~ish, compare to the price of the 78JS9500, this is almost a steal.

These are of course nice photos, but in no way are indicative of any current high class TV's on the market. I am sorry but my 2006 Sony 34 in CRT in person looks better than these posted photos. I would refrain from posting everyday pictures unless they are professional WB perfect pictures with proper exposure lengths and angles.

I wonder how many Samsung buyers are regretting buying the js9500 in a 65" over the 940c 75" at these prices. I would be sick, not to mention the superior PQ Sony has

stop quoting pics people.

Im returning the 930C. Maybe I got a bad set but the motion interpolation/judder isnt up to my standards, especially for a $2500 tv set. Gonna wait until either the 65 LG oleds or the 940C gets closer to $3k since those are the top 3 tv's in motion interpolation/judder according to rtings.com. I just want to be able to watch blurays/movies/sports/Fios without any judder/artifacting.

The other day I got my hands on a 60fps movie file from the internet and put it on my external ssd hd, played it using Kodi and I didnt notice a difference and still saw slight juddering in fast scenes. My buddy said for him it was a night/day difference. He has a sammy and from experience I know they are worse in the judder department.

Can someone send me the best settings with the highest Soap Opera Effect set to make sure it's not my settings?
thalazy and iatacs19 like this.

s2kro, I have the same problem you have.
I have posed the question several times here but without response.
I would like to know if all of the TV is like my or my television is wrong.
Can a firmware update to fix this problem?

Maybe someone has a tip on what I'm doing wrong or should do.

Well I would say no, Vizio is not near the same quality or PQ as Sony. Then again the P series is not out yet so only time will tell. It is interesting the tablet for the remote and the Dolby Vision and HDR dual qualification. The other good thing is the P-Series will be a Costco Sams Club item so 90 day returns if a problem arises.

Anyone know if the 940C's inputs will support HDMI 2.0a by way of a future firmware upgrade? Or has it already been upgraded to support this feature? I guess I'm not even sure whether or not it can be done via a firmware upgrade, so hence why I ask the question.

Cheers

I sent an email to Sony with your same question... Still waiting for an answer.
But it seems that some users here are already using the Samsung ultra HD blu Ray player connected to their x940c..

I just got the 930C the other day and watched James Bond Spectre. I didnt notice any jutter during the movie at all. I have yet to calibrate the tv. I also played some COD on the ps4 and no jutter at all.

This tv does an awesome job in blu-rays and the one 3D movie I watched looked great. What problems are you having with broadcast channels? My main problem is that the picture just doesn't look as sharp, a little blurry (not a noise problem). But at least it is watchable now. But I would have expected this tv to do a better job than the lower end tv's that I tried before I got this one. But the color on this to is a lot better and richer. But, it's not perfect. I had pretty bad banding problems on the other tv's. This tv has some banding, but it's so minimal that I don't notice on most things. I have no flashlighting or clouding either. But I do have some blooming that is noticeable with white text on black screen.
I was experiencing low rez channels looking terrible or barely passable and HD channels (especially commercials) looking decent but not as good as the other sets around the house. I've got a roof antennae and it's only being utilized by two TVs in the house. Yes this set is great for 4k, and blu ray but I'm also getting too much ghosting with 3D blu rays. Last night I was able to dial in excellent PQ for blu ray but the ghosting is a pest and still not as bright as I'd like it. Time goes super fast when you are just sitting there going over settings next thing you know it's time to hit the hay (lol).

Hello Steve,
The FW update for this came out awhile ago. If you are running the latest FW, you should be good to go.

But it seems that some users here are already using the Samsung ultra HD blu Ray player connected to their x940c..
