Exclamation What to look for buying a demo 940C

Tomorrow I am going to look at a demo 940C at my local electronics store and I need to know what to check to make sure its ok to buy.

Is there any test patterns I can download to see if there is any dead pixels or other screen problems.

What do you think is a fair price for a in store demo model ?

I really like this TV and it still has the factory warranty. I will get the 930D if there is a problem with it or if you think I should not take the risk with a TV that may have been on for 12 hours a day for a year.

Its under the Youtube Settings and you can turn it on or off. Comes under info for geeks or something like that.

I noticed the same thing. Even shows I had in my watch list that were UHD only show up as 1080p now. I don't know where they all went.

Re the new Amazon Prime app that showed up on latest sony update- i finally found the UHD section-

when in the "home" section of app on left- move to highlight the title/heading of a row- so the yellow heading lights up- keep scrolling down to bottom of the rows - when at end it say "loading" on bottom right & new rows will load-- continue down to bottom again & after about 3 or 4 new loaded sections there u will find few rows that say UHD- it takes forever to get to these UHD sections and when you do get there & begin to reviews whats in each row - it will return to you to beginning of home section again & u have to scroll down many "loadings" to get back to UHD again- This is just nuts- amazon app before latest update was soooooo much easier.

You should check it over as though it was just delivered to your house. See post 2013. Also see post 11019 to obtain color block images to put on a flash drive for checking dead pixels. You can also check to see how many hours the set has been on with or without the screen activated. See post 9473. If there's no dead pixels or noticeable wear and tear, then the usage data should determine how much you should pay.

Thanks for the additional info. I will try turning off my cell phone to see if that will let the small touch screen remote work. The larger remote hasn't stopped working yet since the latest firmware update. So maybe that issue has been fixed, need to give it a little more time to see. I also did try changing the batteries to new one's in the small remote just to make sure that wasn't the problem.

I had to do this again this morning. I now think it may be related to the MODE in which the set was left when I turned it off at night. In the last case, I had left the TV in "NetFlix" (app) mode. When I turned on the set this morning (just with power button, not unplugging) the sound was only going through the sub. The reset I do above fixes it fine, but normally, almost never, do I leave the set in app/Netflix mode as I usually hit the "TV" button so the set is back to the way my wife would want it, if she were the one to turn it on the next time. Anyway, just thought I would bring that up for others who are seeing this issue.

Does anyone know a faster or easier way to change your picture setting display with a button. Rather than hitting action menu and going to picture adjustments and stuff all the time?

Also when gaming does anyone know if reducing sharpness and or contrast decreases input lag?
I already have all the extra motion settings and such turned off, but was curious if turning those 2 down makes a difference at all?
and yes I'm on Game picture setting.

Thanks for the links. I looked at it today and the outside was in real good shape from what I can see in the dim lights they had at the store. The only thing that I saw was a yellow color on the inside of the glass all around the edges, It resembled the color of masking tape that has been out in the sun for to long. It was about 1\4 of an inch wide and faded away. Is that normal ?

They lost the small finger flicking remote and the 2 long spacers for the wall mount. I got the price down 600 and to get the parts they lost its about 100 .

After 3 hours in the store watching moves and checking it out I bought it but am a little worried about the yellow color on the inside of the glass. I got 30 days to change my mind if the yellow stain is not normal I will just get the 930D and only be 10 inches less happy I am worried about the slow HDMI ports to but that's for another post.

You're welcome. :-)

No, definitely not normal. Either its foreign (tape resdue), UV damage or maybe burn-in. If you cannot carefully remove it without scratching, or causing water to collect behind, the screen, I would return it.

Did you mean USB ports? I cannot recall ever reading a published review that was critical of the 940C's HDMI ports. I'm pretty sure the 940C was made HDMI 2.0a/HDCP 2.2 compliant, on all four HDMI ports, via firmware back in February.

I'm on the same boat....looking at picking up a demo 940C from a local AV shop. I was able to get to the blue diag screen and saw it had 4600 hours on it. Dealer has everything but the box, still has plastic on the edges and no dead pixles. I'm getting it for 3000 (+tax) with full Sony 1 year warranty since it hasn't been registered yet + and additional year on my card. Good deal considering I can get a 940D from an authorized dealer for $2300 more?

Also, should a warranty request arise wouldn't Sony run the same diagnostics as I did to find the hours to invalidate any claim?

I just looked on Sony's web site, Have a look here and tell me what you think. page 3
https://docs.sony.com/release//specs...X940C_mksp.pdf

Look at page 28. All these numbers mean the slower hdmi ports. They may have updated them with firmware but I read some where they had to be hardware upgraded to 18ghz.

Take a look here you will see what I mean by slow hdmi ports 10.2ghz

I believe the ports were always the 18gb variety, but the TV was incapable of using their full potential until the firmware update unlocked it. If the ports weren't 18gb they wouldn't be able to do the 4K 60hz 4:4:4 that the firmware update now says they support.

I just bought a store demo Sunday, 5300 hours for $2799. I have been searching for several months for a good price on one, I jumped on it. Picture quality looks great, currently side by side with my EF9500 65" OLED. I think it looks overall better with same content playing, I am keeping it. My wife came home yesterday, first time she saw it on, immediately said it looks better than the OLED too. Plus, it's 10" bigger. Great TV. It hasn't been previously sold, warranty should be still good.

Yeah, for unknown reasons, Sony didn't reveal that their 2015 TVs had 18GBps ports for quite a while after release. So all the docs written at the time of release show those specs. Sony later updated firmware to fully enable the higher bandwidth capabilities of the HDMI ports. Quite a few people have tested these and confirmed that they do support the full 4K 60hz 4:4:4.

I bought mine for 2900 + the 100 in lost parts I had to order and mine has 4600 hours on it also. My 2013 Samsung F8500 plasma could not be repaired and the warranty gave me a store credit of 2800 and I had to pay tax on the difference.

I would get it, See if you can get them to eat the tax and it would be a great deal, It is already is a fair price now as it seams that they are selling for around 3000. They wanted 3500 for mine 3 weeks ago but I left the store 3 different times over 3 week period before they agreed on the price.

Congrats on the TV, There was a 9500 OLED by my 940C demo that I bought and my wife liked the 10inch bigger one to . The OLED does have better blacks but not by much. The 940C has a much brighter picture and the colors are amazing. Enjoy your new TV.

I cant thank you enough for this I almost got the 930D because I was so worried about the HDMI ports.

I have one more favor to ask, I am wall mounting it and need the location of the VESA mounts on the back of the TV so I can put the wall mount at the right height. It will be here Friday morning.

A couple of posts down it shows a pic of the TV mounted on the wall. I need a print out of the TV and the location of the mounting holes. I will keep looking.

I own over 275 3-D BD and have watched a lot of them on my 940C. I have also owned other 3-D panels and have seen it played on other displays including plasma, projection and OLED. The 940C provides one of the best 3-D images I have ever seen. Not the best of them all, but I'd say the best of all frame sequential/active shutter LCD's . . . ever. Avatar, Lichtmond 1-3, IMAX Hubble, Gravity, all look spectacular.

Was wondering if anyone has ever seen their x940c randomly turn on. Today I came home from work and my girlfriend hasn't turned it on she said. She mostly watches tv in the room. Anyways it was hot like its been on for at least 10 hours. On top of that it was in Bluetooth settings part of the menu. Now when I last used it I had it in Netflix app. It was in the google screen saver mode so when I clicked back on remote it took me to the bluetooth settings of remote. I have the small bluetooth remote off and unpaired with no batteries inserted. I only use the regular IR remote. Ive seen my tv turn on once in front of me and now I came home to find something or someone turned my tv on.

I've had mine turn right back on after I turned it off a time or two, but I just assumed I bumped the touch remote and it triggered it back on. During the latest firmware update I set it to do the update after I turned it off, so it turned itself back on to do the update and then stayed on.

There is a setting in the menu somewhere to have it automatically turn on when there's an incoming cast, if you have that on maybe something triggered that.
